Wish me luck.
« on: November 21, 2009, 02:19:58 AM »
A project I'm attached to got a big bite, and the producers will be going in for a lengthy meeting. I got a call tonight that they're planning on leading with one of my rough drafts, so I'm working overtime to clean it up and then I'm going to register it with the WGA.

I've been further along this process before, only to have it all fall apart, so my expectations are almost at rock bottom. But this is the most amount of traction this particular production has had since it wrapped, and I feel good about the overall product having seen the footage.

It would be nice to work on something worthwhile for a change.

I look forward to following Willco's rise to stardom, through his hiring of an abrasive agent and capped by his writing the Aquaman script.  It'll stay interesting for a while, then he'll have a bunch of pointless escapades and I'll lose interest and stop visiting the Bore.

I'm not working on anything meant for television, but that does not mean it will not possibly end up there. I am also in the process of writing a screenplay for a remake that a friend is trying to secure the rights for.

Good luck, as long as it isn't about sci-fi shit or zombies.  There's too many of that stuff already.

Probably. That's my general outlook with my career, though.

Good luck, as long as it isn't about sci-fi shit or zombies.  There's too many of that stuff already.

There is some science-fiction involved, but it is not in space and no space marines. No zombies either.

I am working on something that has the undead. Not quite zombies, though.

Well, the project has already taken a hit. I guess we're now moving forward with a meeting, dependent on approval of my script (along with two others) and some more material. If their development people dig it, our production could be sitting down at a table after Thanksgiving.

I think the price tag got thrown around, sticker shock ensued and the development people want a thorough look at the material before any sit-downs.

The good news from all of this was that the interest was from another party that went to them pitching a personal project, and just happened to drop off some material. The producers have not even really tried to sell it yet (in the midst of setting up a website, getting the kit together, etc.). So if this is interest sparked from a back channel, if they focus their energies, I think they'll do well once they hit the majors.

hollywood jargon smh.  I have no idea what you're trying to say.

Yeah, let me try to simplify it.

I am attached to - as a lead writer - a production that shot a promo over the summer in order to sell the project to either a major or a production company. The director, who is actually a legitimate director with an actual feature under his belt, was actually attempting to sell a personal project, but left a rough cut of the promo with a production company.

Said production company loved the promo, and I was told to ready my latest draft of a particular script (as well as protect it electronically with the WGA) for a pending sit-down meeting between the the production company and the producers I work for.

Huzzah.

Now I'm being told that the development people for this particular production company would like to read through scripts and project material, and then if they decide that they are still interested, they'll call in the producers for a sit-down after Thanksgiving.

So, as you can see, the situation has already somewhat deteriorated. I know my script, along with extra material and a finished promo (they just recently scored the thing), has probably been sent over to their offices by now.

Will they like what they read and see? Who knows. Hollywood is a fickle mistress.

... The good news I was able to pull from this whole episode was that this all occurred without the producers trying to sell it; rather a director left a rough cut of the promo on his merry travels across Burbank. If a rough cut can elicit this type of response without anyone actually trying to sell the project, I think it bodes well for interest when actual pitch sessions are booked.
