hoo boy I'ma buy like 3000 points this week. I want this, EWJ, Duke Nukem Manhattan and co-opvania. I hope Castlevania is 800 points...

Okay I'll do the math:

Duke - 800
EWJ - 800
PQ2 - 1200
Castlevania - 800?

eek thats at least 3600, if Castlevania is 1200 I'll need 4000.

game is out :smug

impressions

well this seems more balanced than the original but also more boring, there are now 5 mana colors instead of 4,and gauntlets which you can use to trigger your equipment, there is now a defense stat which give you a chance to cut in half the damage you receive for turn, the higher your defence, the higher your chance

as for equipment you can equip weapon to trigger damage, shield which temporarly raise your defense rating and potion which can give you mana or improve how much mana you gain, there is now equipment which is class exclusive which piss me off because it means you get useless loot

so far i wasn't able to capture anything to ride,or learn any enemy spells tough everytime you open a chest you have to play a minigame which dictates how many items you get, defeated enemy drops generic loot which you can use to upgrade your equipment altough so far i haven't been able to do so

there are now 4 classes,i'm playing as a warrior which is giving me a wide variety of skills... i have three buffs,a stun spell and a drain spell, apparently the wizard focuses on damage spells, the assasins on board manipulation skills and the paladin on protection skills

the things that really makes me sad is what they have done to your equipment, none of the item i have found had any special skills attached to it (no wait, there is a dagger that poison your enemy if that counts) all of them were weapons with a damage value attached to it,or armors with a defense value attached to it (tough i found an amulet which give me more red mana at the start of the fight)

when you level up,you now pick between 5 stats, each stat is related to a mana color but also to other factor (for example strenght dictates not only dictates how much red mana you can hold and gain but also how much damage you do when matching skulls) you only get 1 point for each level up tough in some level up you automaticaly gets point in your main stats (as a warrior i got a bonus to strenght and vitality)

as i said the game seems much more balanced since stuff like the firewalker staff is now gone, none of the skills i have seen has been powerfull enough to be a game breaker (even tough one of the monster had a skill that dealt 999 damage for 65 red mana :lol) the last skill of the warrior seems to be berserk rage so i hope they at least toned it down

I'll get 200 of course but these cheevs stuck out as being BS:

 Epic Fail 10
Lose to an opponent while on 1 Life Point during any single player game mode

Cheating AI 5
Be defeated by an opponent on their first turn during any single player game mode

cheevs for losing are never cool IMO

On DS:

It seems to me that the game is drastically unbalanced- The Barbarian class is the sure-win, everything else will be harder than that. It's like playing Mass Effect as anything other than a brutish Soldier.

The equipment additions seem overpowered to me, but it's nice to have the option. Too bad none of it seems to matter. You pick up something called like THE EVIL SWORD OF DRACONIS and all it is like +1 damage over RUSTY DAGGER.

The new map is kind of 'meh'. I guess I like the isometric dungeon crawl-y thing, but I think I preferred the expansive overworld map. I also miss the cartoony art. The artwork here is beautiful, but it feels out of place, somehow.

The minigames are much, much better. The lock picking one is especially neat. Level advancement has been streamlined, maybe not in a good way? You pick from one of 5 stats, but it really only ever makes sense to pump one or two of them depending on your class.

Anyhow, I still played it way past bedtime. The core gameplay is still there and it's been made more interesting. The DS version seems like the runt of the litter, so I'd hold out for PC or 360 if you can.

i don't see what makes the barbarian overpowered,if anything i heard the assasin gets two skills that let him do double damage, making it quadruple damage

EDIT: i'm playing assasin and yea he gets to deal tons of damage but it requires a ludicrous amount of mana & setup where the warrior can just hit thing with his sword over and over, not so sure about the guy anymore

also anyone here is playing on hard? i tried playing on hard using assasin but i didn't notice a single difference between normal

EDIT 2: apparently if you stack all of the double damage assasin spells you can end up doing X8 damage :lol up to 120 damage
that's seriously a sick amount of hurt but as i said with all the mana required,it better hurts that much

i'm trying the templar a bit and he's the master of boring skills, apparently later on he gets a skill which gifts him action point and one that basicaly gifts him mana depending on his defense, which seems a little broken considering he probably can gets his defense high enough to have the mana spells pay for itself

i stopped playing somewhere after hitting level 25,remember how everybody complained that you never got anywhere in galactrix because every quest involved traveling to some point which involved hacking tons of spacegates?

replace spacegate with "random monster encounters" and you got puzzle quest 2,the monsters don't spawn again once dead but the game just doesn't feel as rewarding and fast paced as the original

I'm not sure if you're talking high level play or something but the game is pretty simple at least as a single player game. Match 3 or more gems to attack the enemies you face. Spells require a certain number of colored gems to trigger. Repeat a few thousand times until you finish the game.

There is a tutorial thing in both that seems to hold your hand for the first few battles and the early stuff. Other than walking around and doing match three's and greater there isn't really a lot to it.

I mean you can upgrade your attributes but there is a little show info button where it tells you what effect that has. Actually that show info button is pretty much all over the place in the sequel so if you have any question what any item does, you just have to move it over it.

If you have a specific question I can answer that but otherwise its pretty straightforward from what I remember.

My match 3 skills have definitely declined. I'm having a harder time than I remember with the original (Which isn't a bad thing. Just mentioning it). Playing with the sorcerer so maybe that has something to do with it.

I'm also sucking at the treasure chest mini-game. You have to clear out those things quick or they just get swallowed. I've sort of changed my strategy a bit on those.
