Killzone 2 is rendered at 720p.
The particles for example are at 1/4 the resolution, yet the game looks great.  Largely due to the low contrast and post-processing (similar to AW).
The HUD is the only part of Alan Wake that is 720p.
currently, pixel-counters can only measure HUD and polygon pixels, disregarding the fact that modern engines have so many different parts with different resolutions.  All that matters is how good the final product looks (to the naked eye).  I don't see why resolution by itself would matter to anyone from a technical or aesthetic standpoint.

Confirmed to be 540p.

At this rate, the only 360 game that will unseat GeOW2 from the 'graphics throne' will be GeOW3.
Do you understand what are you saying now?

Some(very weak) PC can run quake 3 at 1080p and acording to you

graphically
quake 3>>>uncharted 2...easily

A little example Bioshock 2 PS3 runs at pixel counting "720p",but on screen effects run at 360p-upscaled to 720p of course
But in the case of Bioshock 2 those effect are always on,sometimes nothing else is on screen except them.
So someone could easily claim that Bioshock 2 PS3 is a 360p game.

Killzone 2 is very similar.

Why is this pixel counting stuff so popular(especially among fanboys)?Simple, very easy to detect, hard number to hang on
But in the end it's no more important than shadow map res,etc etc...some games even change it on fly

A 540p game cannot be the graphics king on a HD platform because from a technical perspective a resolution of 540p is a complete joke.

Killzone 2 is rendered at 720p. MGS4 is not, GTA4(Ps3 version) is not, Alan Wake is not, Splinter Cell: Conviction is not, all Halo games (including Reach and excluding the spinoff) are not, etc etc.

GeOW3 will more than likely be rendered at a resolution of 720p, and it will more than likely be the best looking game on 360.

Live in denial or learn to accept the facts.

Some things are 720p,some things are not...

I don't think that you understand anything...

Do you really think that CG in a movie like Avatar "rendered" in 480p can't be a "graphics king"*...really???

We would be lucky if games would ship with that level of detail.

*Whatever that means

Killzone 2s native resolution is 720p, particle effects are sub-HD.

Alan Wakes native resolution is 540p, particle effects are sub-HD as well.

Like I said before, GeOW3 will more than likely be the new 'graphics king' on 360 because it will be superior to Alan Wake in every visual aspect.

I could've sworn I replied to that part. Strange.

Here's what I said; First of all, Avatar is a 3D movie.

Second of all, movies and CG are not critiqued under the same lens as videogames, so your logic is unsound.

Third and last, if resolution doesn't matter in terms of crowning a games graphics, then Super Mario Galaxy is the best looking console game to date.

Back to you, cat.

The resolution thing is a non-issue.  Assuming they're taxing the 360, I'd much rather have a low resolution than a spotty frame rate.  I'll still buy the game eventually.

and I'm browsing around the gaf thread and finding it hilarious.  One kid tried to say a blurry image is a positive because it hides the imperfections  :lol

Please, I played WipeoutHD this weekend and aside from the HD resolution, it looks like a Xbox 1 game.  It's not even running in real 1080P, btw.

it is technically a port of the PSP games (something like that) which is why it is just HD and not another subtitle

the 1080p thing is also interesting since it has a dynamic resolution to ensure it is always at 60 fps.  It goes between 1920x1080 (max) and 1280x1080 (min) depending on what is happening on the screen.  It is a neat solution and I'd much rather more games have something like that instead of choppy video an slowdown.

even on the PC I will drop effects or w/e to ensure at least 30 fps, though even on my modest PC the only game that isn't at 60 fps is Crysis and that jumps between 30 and 40.  Frame rate matters most when you're actually playing the game.

Marketing is gearing up

Quote
Welcome to “Bright Falls,” the Chilling Live-Action Film Prequel to “Alan Wake”

The six-part series premieres exclusively on April 25 on Xbox LIVE and April 27 at BrightFalls.com

Turn down the lights but keep your flashlight and batteries handy, as Xbox 360 unveils “Bright Falls,” a six-part live action series that serves as a thrilling prequel to the mystery unfolding in “Alan Wake.” Each episode will bring you to the edge of your seat and spur your curiosity with the same eerie and suspenseful cliffhangers as in the game. TV fans will find that the series evokes the same ghostly chills as “Twin Peaks” did when it premiered 20 years ago this month.

The first two episodes of “Bright Falls” will be available for viewing exclusively on Xbox LIVE for Gold members starting April 25 and for all Xbox LIVE members on April 26, before debuting at BrightFalls.com on April 27. A new episode will be released each week thereafter, leading up to the shocking conclusion with the final two episodes on May 17.

Shot on location in Oregon, “Bright Falls” is directed by Philip Van, whose short films have won over a dozen awards in festivals including the Sundance Film Festival, Berlin International Film Festival and more. “Bright Falls” also features notable actors such as Tom Noonan who recently appeared on FX’s “Damages,” and Cooper Huckabee who joins the cast of HBO’s “True Blood” this season.

lulz. I was going to mention that but didn't. I guess that's the MS attempt to try to broaden the appeal of the game.

It's too late for that. This isn't going to be a Halo or Gears level Blockbuster for them.

I'm going with Red Dead and Galaxy.  Alan Wake looks awesome but I have recently played Silent Hill Wii, Alone in the Dark, Deadly Premonitions, and Heavy Rain; those games are have similarities if only the tone.  Red Dead is a western game.  A western game  is rare, and one that looks as good as RDR with that crazy online mode is something I can't pass on.

I also want Trauma Team, Split Second, and the new Prince of Persia  :'(
