I honestly don't see how any game would overtake Uncharted 2. I can't think of many ways to improve upon it, other than more AA, better texture filtering and such, but even those things are pretty great the way they are. Gears 3 can probably astound us with wicked monsters and more destroyed beauty, but there is a pretty sizable gap between Gears 2 and Uncharted 2.

Short of MS having had some secret team plugging away on Incredible Looking Exclusive since the dawn of the generation, I don't see it happening.

I think the hardcore portion of the market has skewed things where graphics are only "the best" and then everything else. Normal people and gamers don't do that. It's a much more varied view they have than that. And they look at the entire game as a complete package. Not just how dope are these graphics in a texture sense and that therefore then makes a certain game, the best of all time.

For me personally I've never been a graphics snob on any platform. I do tend to be a frame rate snob because I believe that contributes to actual gameplay.

Well, I saw some dude on another special interest forum I visit (not gaming) claim that Borderlands was the best looking game he had played, and no one jumped him. The worst I saw was "really, well I guess we all have different taste."

Those people who actually play and like games are some remarkable people.

It's called being short sighted. And if you don't think that either Microsoft or another developer is working on a title that looks as good as or better than Uncharted 2, on both systems, you're mistaken.

Again, this statement never pans out. Developers always do more with hardware, it always happens. Even if Gears 3 was the best looking game of all-time - and who knows, maybe it will be - I would expect another game on the PlayStation 3 or Xbox 360 to inevitably surpass it.

But how? What can be improved upon, and which studio is going to do it? Very little about Uncharted 2 feels compromised, which makes it different from KZ and Gears (or Uncharted 1, for that matter). And while developers can always mine more from the ore, isn't one of the oft mentioned strengths of the 360 that it is significantly easier to get performance results out of the system?

The graphics thing is such a dead end argument imo.

Dragon Age looks like shit. On my powerful PC. It looks like crap. But it doesn't matter because the game rocks.

Modern Warfare looks pretty good. Not as good as Killzone 2 of course but pretty good. And it moves and controls better for normal people and feels right because of the high framerate. That is why it is so popular and sells. Good games sell for a lot of reasons beyond textures.

Hey, it would be nice to be wrong so I'd take the mockery with a spit and a smile, I just don't see it happening. Uncharted 2 doesn't have enough blatant compromises, and studios like Naughty Dog don't grow on trees, especially not on the 3rdpartybox. Of course, with sales performance being what it is, it's questionable whether or not Sony is going to be pushing this angle either.

That said, it would be nice if they could do something about the damn eyes for the next one.

I'd like to see one example of a 360 game that has anyweres near the field of vision that u2 has. Sony has always had games that convey the most beautiful backgrounds between metal gear solid on psx, god of war 2 on ps2, and uncharted 2 on ps3.

The Wii thing is unsurprising. I didn't go to any black friday sales, but we ventured out the day after, and there were old bats with Wiis everywhere. The console of choice for grandmas buying gifts for their grandkids for sure.

Crytek would be the studio to fuck up the argument for sure. I hope they can bring that whole "Jesus Crysis" factor to consoles. Their games also play real well, so it's a good addition for sure.

Off the top of my head, I liked Batman AA, Dragon Age, and Assassin's Creed 2 more than U2 and that was just within the past 6 months or so. Looking back further I'd include stuff like Fallout 3, Dead Space, etc. The 3rd party stuff this generation has been exponentially more interesting than the 1st party titles imo.

I liked U2 and think it's a good game but I'm not swallowing this Alpha and Omega of the PS3 nonsense just because it's an exclusive.
