Character roles this run:

Vaan - Tank/Paladin, shall receive daggers/axes/swords/broadswords, only mage he'll be using is defense magic.
Fran - Mage/Archer, shall only be able to equip guns and bows, main mage
Balthier - Mage/Archer, shall only be able to equip guns and bows, back up mage

Goal is to beat the game in 20 hours or so.

The rare drops are time sink. The drop chance is like 1% to 5% if you chain the monsters to 50-level chain.

The Dustia levelling is basically breaking the game.

The game is still stupid easy when playing it the normal, non-power gaming way.

I should be able to get past this part, right? I mean, I guess I could go back to my Bhujerba save and buy some new equipment/potions/PDs. I dunno, I wasn't aware that there was any grinding in this game, I thought it was just like other FFs. Don't run from battles and you'll be adequately leveled.

Robert, is it possible for you to evade some enemies?

Oh wait, if this is Leviathan you HAVE to fight some enemies to trigger the alarms and continue.

I'm trying to think of a way for you to get out of this.

AFAIK, there isn't a single laser alarm before I find Ashe that I NEED to trip. I've gone through the part a couple times, and there's one area where it'll close really soon after you walk through it, but I managed to not trip it. Still, there's an area where I get swarmed by like four guards with protect on, and they just slice through everyone. If I take them one-by-one, it's totally fine, I can three-hit all of them. I even used Fran to cast blind on all of them, but it didn't do much.

his is exactly what it is. I dunno why are you having trouble at the Leviathan. You don't have to trigger that much alarms. Of course there is still the boss fight... Where are you exactly getting raped? At the beginning of the dungeon (ship), in the middle or even later?

Before you find Ashe, I'm at the beginning of it.

Have you taught all characters in your party cure, by any chance?

HP < 30% -> Cure on all members is a lifesaver.

Also, level 20 is overleveled for Leviathan and 10 is probably underleveled. It's been a while.

I don't have the HP <30% gambit, and half my crew knows Cure. I have no LP now but if I go back to Bhujerba, I have a lot.

What about HP < 50%?

You should really head to the gambit shop.

HP < 30% is crucial, because the default one you get is HP < 70% and that's completely unrealistic in terms of saving mp.

You unlock HP < 30% when you get to Barheim Passage so it's been available for a while.

Go back to the Bhujerba save and tell us what equipment you have, what your levels are and buy any gambits you can get at the gambit shop. They cost 50-200 gill a pop, and you should be able to buy all of them depending on your wallet.

All gambits available at that shop.

What equipment do you have for your main party?

honestly, I don't understand why they opted for players to buy gambits when gambits are at the central core of the gameplay. Every gambit should be unlocked at the very beginning of the game and you shouldn't have to buy shit.

I think I got it, I bought some things I should've bought a long time ago. I've got my gambits, I'll post again if I have any more problems.

Okay, what weapon/armor does your main three have?

FF12 is a game where equipment > levels

because it's so open-ended you can end up with equipment you can use half the fucking game.

Aevis Killer
Onion Arrows
Headguard
Chromed Leathers

Vaan

Bronze Armor
Orrachea Armlet

Wtf I just got wiped by an army of skeletons in the mines. This was a cake-walk the first time through. FMLLLLLL

You have fine equipment.

The equipment you can buy in shops along the main story is totally enough for the part untill you unlock new equipment in new shops after you move the story forward.

Anyway back to Leviathan: there should be a Moogle in one of the cells, right? You can buy shit from him I think Potions and Phoenix Darks too.

Now if the Imperials have Protect on: do you have Dispel? Also you said you tried to Blind them, Blind makes every attack fail 50% of the time so BLIND IS GOOD especially on physical attacking enemies.

What spells do you have and what is exactly your problem in the Leviathan? You die too qucikly too a bunch of Imperials right? Can't you run past them? I don't want to spoil anything but I think if you have problems with NORMAL enemies in Leviathan you will have BIG FUCKING PROBLEMS at the end of Leviathan.

Do you run out of MP? Do you know Charge technick? Do you know Slow, Haste, Bravery or Protect? Protect is CRUCIAL in this game.

The last resort is of course levelling up which increases your HP, defense and attack power. Damage you take and cause is based on attributes AND your level so levelling up even 2-3 levels can make that small difference between life & death.

Thanks for helping, but I've resolved that I'm going to just delete my saves and start anew, but I'm gonna take a break before doing that.

I'm only ~7 hours in, and, looking at your time logged, I haven't even scratched the surface. No harm done, I just have to try again.

I'm at the entrance of Raithwall.

Doing quests and hunts before entering to make sure I'm prepared.

I stole myself an Ancient Sword from the Yensa Eater but alas, Demonsbane awaits at Raithwall.

I forgot how much I *loathe* the Yensa Sandsea. Or rather, the Obir-Yensa Sandsea. What a crap area. Nothing but circular platforms, boring and annoying enemies...I don't know why I hate the place. Probably because it's bigger than it really should be.

But the boss of the dungeon is the hardest part of the ship.

Ogir-Yensa sucks!

And I'm lacking the ability to beat the first demon wall right now. I need to do some quests.

Wasted 2 hours and nothing.

FUCK THIS GAME

You aren't going to rage quit and not get 100% are you? I've put my playthrough on a backburner for a bit because of work etc but I'm rooting for you to actually do it. Frankly when you said you were going for it I chuckled a little because it's more than a little insane to actually do it but you've gone pretty far already so...
Oh yeah, how is your in-game fishing going? You'll need a lot of that if you're going to reach your goal

At the village in Eastersand with the ferry there should be a guy standing on the other platform a little ways in the river. Talk to him and then you need to steal a pole from a guy fishing near the aerodrome in Balfonheim. To get the pole have a conversation with the guy then walk away towards the aerodrome almost to the point where you zone BUT don't zone. Walk back to where the guy was fishing and you should see his pole leaning against the wall. Snag it. Go back to the guy in the Eastersand village and talk to him again and he'll set you up on what to do next.
If you aren't going to do equipment I don't think you need fishing. You definately need to master it if you want one of the medallions for the wyrmsword. The mini-game itself is kinda fun though. Bit like a rhythmn game as you have to press the right button as it rolls past on the river. There are five fishing spots but you have to master an area before the next opens. It's pretty easy to start but gets much harder. I don't remember if I beat the fourth. I'm fairly sure I was trying to finish the hunts as a break from fishing when I ran into the King Behemoth spawn problem and just said f it to the whole 100% thing.

Good luck on the fishing. As I said it gets pretty tough after the first three areas. There's also a quest you'll need to do to get a better fishing pole (and you get it from a REALLY unexpected source). Be careful if you need to faq the clues about the quest because it's really a "wth? LOL" moment when you reach the end. Well it was for me anyways...

I don't post much because I just don't have the time to game that I used to. I suppose I could pad my post count with random comments in various threads but /shrug

Level 30, at Mt. Bur-Omisace.

Managed to get Vaan a War Hammer at Henne Mines.

17 hours clocked, which is pretty bad for what I'm going for.

Took out the Eryut Dragon with ease, did a few hunts. Still need 6 more hunts to unlock them fookin' bubble belts.
