Just the promo was produced. There's a longer version just for investors (running time tops at like 9 minutes and change), and it cost a pretty penny. It's doing the rounds in Hollywood right now. The sticker shock is scaring away buyers, but everyone is in love with the project and talent involved.

I feel like kind of a dick, because I've been able to use it as more of a networking tool than anything else (and I had little to do with the actual promo, either financially or artistically). There's a good chance I can sell my spec script due to the contacts made from trying to sell the promo.

I believe there are a couple of production companies that they're still deep into talks with, one of which has investors that are finally back in Los Angeles after a long road trip that included SXSW. If nothing really moves forward in the next couple of months, I believe they start going down the private investor route.

I should see if I can find one of my friend's unproduced screenplays. It is truly terrible.

It has a scene where this girl (who has the ability to raise the dead) finds her cat murdered (I believe?) and she decides to burn it. Her one bit of dialogue has become something of a catchphrase in my social circle, because of the absurdity of it:

"Goodbye kitty, may you find peace beyond the flames."

Clearly I am building my own SHAKE UNIVERSE, Cheebs, where all the characters are either named Dale, Dave, Ricky or Elias. No substitutes.

And sadly, that is not the worst screenplay he wrote. He now makes more money than any of us.

He has a few trends, though. The lead female character is usually underaged or barely legal, and strikes up a romantic relationship with the lead male character who is often in his thirties or older (mimicking the writer's actual life) - and there is often an uneasy connection with pets.

Also, police officers are usually mustache-twirling assholes.

His last screenplay had the town sheriff shooting the protagonist's beloved goat - in slow motion - out of spite. As a result, the protagonist goes on a killing spree, including one scene where he murders this young girl's shitty boyfriend by dropping an anvil on his head.

I wish I was making this stuff up.
