Seems like a desperate cry to get the attention of the developer's.
Also quotes like these "It's one of those games that cut through my cynicism and took me completely by surprise, and for anyone who knows me... that's a feat in of itself." makes him sound like a dumb Harry Knowles.
That thread is like GAF in a nutshell.
You know I like that Lara Croft game also. Why not make a thread or post that just says hey I like Lara Croft XBLA game for X, Y, and Z reasons. Instead its this weird thing where they try to talk like they are a videogame expert or connoisseur of the highest degree. As if that will somehow validate their nerdy hobby to the level of fine wine judging. And you are right. It is that Harry Knowles thing but somehow far worse.
Because GAF believes themselves to be the avant garde of gaming industry discussion. They can never like a game just because - there has to be a deeper, psychological meaning to it. That shooting shit up can never be shooting shit up, they believe that there is a certain gravitas as to why that particular dudebro needs to put a bullet through that generic russian terrorist and they believe it is up to them to explore and unfold those subtle nuances.
Which is why you see so many goons say "GAF > Internet > GAF" - most truly believe they are at the forefront of gaming industry discussion. And OT memes ripped wholly from Something Awful or 4chan.
Edit: Also events like Kane and Lynch censoring and Denis Dyack shows what the mods and admins think of NeoGAF. Although K&L for instance selling over a million copies should have put them in their place, most of them are unfazed by the fact that they merely control the opinions of 1000-2000 nerds on any given day.
