I think if we learned anything with regard to 2D/3D gaming this year, it's that 3D gaming isn't so much an evolution of 2D gaming, just an optional preference. 2D titles are still very much in the game thanks to Nintendo. Sony, as the former market leader, emphasized the shit out 3D gaming and cinematic presentation to the point where it was virtually taboo, until the Big N created the perfect platform for 2D developers and illustrated BY EXAMPLE that the 2D perspective is not only a viable gaming preference but more importantly a profitable one.
