Nintendo Wii has better third party games than the GC (Numbers)
« on: January 11, 2010, 03:23:53 PM »
Below are the metacritic scores of the top 10 Gamecube and Wii third-party console exclusives. When adding up the score, you’ll notice that the Wii comes well ahead of the GC in terms of quality third party video game.

I’ve omitted and added a number of games, including Resident Evil 4 for the Gamecube (which wasn’t a third party GC exclusive in the previous generation, as it arrived on the PS2) and PGA Tour 10 Wii ( which was so fundamentally different from the other versions, that I consider it a Wii exclusive on the strength of its unique features).

Anyway, here are the games and their metacritic scores:

GC
Resident Evil – 91
Super Monkey Ball 2 – 87
Super Monkey Ball 1 - 87
Tales of Symphonia – 86
MGS: Twin Snakes – 85
Resident Evil Zero – 83
Final Fantasy: Crystal Chronicles – 80
Pacman Vs. - 78
Battalion Wars - 76
Baten Kaitos Origins - 75

Avg Score: 82.8

Wii
World of Goo – 94
Resident Evil 4: Wii – 91
Tiger Woods PGA Tour 10 - 88
Zack & Wiki – 87
Little King’s Story – 87
LostWinds: Winter of Melodias – 86
Boom Blox Bash Party – 86
Boom Blox – 85
No More Heroes – 83
Dead Space Extraction – 82

Avg Score: 86.9

That's pretty damn impressive considering the Wii is still in its infancy and the gaming press is biased against the system.

EDIT: Removed VJ from the GC list. I forgot it came out for the PS2. Added BW.
EDIT 2: Removed Ikaruga from the GC list. Added BK: 0

I didn't. RE4 came out for the Playstation 2, as well, so it wasn't really a third party console exclusive. RE4 Wii, however, was a game completely tailored for the Wii, much in the same way PGA Tour 10 was, and hasn't seen multiple consoles this generation, so, essentially, it's a Wii third party exclusive.

It is NOT completely tailored for the Wii.  The Wii additions are simply bolted on.  It's not even a particularly well thought out control scheme.  It was a port, plain and simple.  Counting it as a Wii game and not a GC game is bullocks.

Including it basically negates your whole topic as well as it demonstrates that you are taking a harder stance against the Gamecube in favor of the Wii.

This is low, even for a NB thread. Averages of game rankings scores with games selectively added/removed...epic troll is epic.

I never said that.

RE4 was multiplatform last gen; however, RE4, with motion control, is exclusive to the Wii this generation. The added "waggle" functionality doesn't make it a NEW game per say but it's damn near close and critics have proclaimed that it's more than just a port. In the event that it is released for the PS3/Xbox360, with motion controls, then it can be considered a multiplatform title this gen.

The 25th ranked wii game on metacritic is Super Paper Mario, at an average score of 85.
The 25th ranked GC game on metacritic is Tiger Woods PGA, at an average score of 90.

Numbers don't lie.

The 50th ranked wii game on metacritic is Strong Bad's Cool Game for Attractive People Episode 4: Dangeresque 3: The Criminal Projective, sounds awesome, at an average score of 81.
The 50th ranked GC game on metacritic is Super Monkey Ball, at an average score of 87.

Yes, but you haven't adjusted for second party companies, exclusivity, and one other category I'm forgetting...oh yeah, distinguished mentally-challenged agenda.  That last one really changes things around.

Even if we were to add Rogue Leader, which I'm not for reasons stated above, it won't make much of a difference. The Wii is still ahead of the GC in avg score.

No it isn't.  It's the same game, but you have the option to use the Wii controller for aiming and shooting much like you would a mouse on a PC.  What critics have "proclaimed that it's more than just a port?"  Or rather, which Nintendo fan site said this crap?  It's a port.  I would say it's the overall best version of RE4, but I also have never played the PC version (with all its patches available).

You can't do it that way, you dumb fuck. The GC list would be top heavy with all the first party Nintendo releases during the full length of the GC lifespan, pushing more of the other decent games down. The Wii hasn't been around as long. That method would only work when comparing their libraries in TOTALITY at the end of the Wii's lifecycle. My method works better.

No More Heroes is being released for the 360/PS3. Or since those ports aren't out yet it doesn't count?

They come out at the end of February, I believe, so it's still a Wii exclusive at this point. It won't change the avg score much once NMH2 is released exclusively for the Wii (which will blow the first installment away).

There are reasons behind every score. If I recall correctly, it got a lower score as a result of the graphics, which wasn't up to the gaming media's HD standards. Plus, as stated in the OP, Wii games have a harder obstacle to overcome as a result of the gaming media's bias against the Wii itself, but even taking that into account, its games edge out those of the GC among these reviewers, which is an amazing feat.

Had the MP Trilogy and Pikmin been released with HD graphics, they would have scored A LOT higher. That is fact. Mega Man 9 is a very rare incident (you wouldn't be able to name 10 examples EXACTLY like that), but my theory is that since it was an 8-bit game, graphics never was a factor (as it really shouldn't be) in the scores.

I think this is like those Gross Box Office Receipts Adjusted for Inflation movie ticket comparisons. Since the Wii has low-res SD graphics all games automatically get a point multipler of 1.3 (this constant is derived from the inverse log of the pixel fill diference between 480p and 720p, a.k.a. "reviewer's tilt")

:bow Nintendosbooger :bow

Nintendobooger, it's time for this shit to stop.  Keep your crap in one single thread.

Srsly you need to stop with the sub GAf moderation style. If there's something in the ToS about how people can only make one Nintendo related thread per 24 hours, you'd have a point, but as it stands you're just a crybaby. The server isn't going to implode from all of Nintendosboogers' posts.

uh, previews have said that nmh2 uses the same control scheme, complete with waggle.

really? i'd seriously heard that they had totally removed waggle.

Suda said that he saw Monster Hunter 3's popularity so he added in a Classic Controller scheme for 2.

You're probably a Sega fan piece of shit still butthurt that the company is now spreading its legs for other console manufacturers

There's a company , can't remember which one, who've been importing Sega's blue mascot thingy into a ton of their games to help boost sales... which company is that again?

I can almost hear the begging... "PLEASE let us use your character, we've run out of creativity :( :( :("

Is this a joke? Nintendo is the only reason Sega is still afloat. Look at the sales of those Mario/Sonic olympic threads. That's all Nintendo. Sega's upcoming Mario Kart ripoff will undoubtedly end up in the bargain bin along with Bionic Commando.
