New Screens!

It's pretty impressive how they have managed to include just about every visual flaw you can think of. I'm sure there is slowdown and pop-in too.

Are the first two Alien vs Predator games on the PC playable still? I've heard they're pretty scary and good.
Might try them out if they're not too ugly.

This one looks shit, though.

Looks amazing for a <insert derogatory legacy console/handheld here> game

PC version  :-\

Third, I replayed AvP2 last year I think, and while obviously ugly (not that this one looks much better) it was still pretty intense. You really feel hunted as a Marine.

I'm not too worried since the PC version will run at 1680x1050 with 8xAA and VSync.

AvP2 is still pretty awesome, by the way.

GAFers seem to believe that those games were the anomalies, and that they just haven't had the right material. One of the Rebellion dudes even asked of people to sort of ignore those games, and he's obviously unbiased.

they released Aliens vs. Predator Classic 2000 just now for $5

It's the first AvP on PC and the only updates seem like compatibility with modern computers and 360 controller support.  No online yet.

Just go to your local whatever store and pick up AvP2 in the old and forgotten basket for .99. I'm sure it's better than the new Rebellion game.

This is totally Rogue Warrior stealth kills, but in Alien form and with less cussing.  :lol Enemies seem about as bright as well. There's a dude there that gets jumped by the Alien, only to do a robot turn and calmly type on a keypad.

I wonder if they are doing the life cycle thing. That was one of the cooler bits of AvP2. Looking for a host as a weak facehugger, then chew your way out of the chest, escape and find some low level food, and then emerge as an Alien. :rock

Two of the big problems with that AvP video are how you're barely penalized at all for being seen and how it's almost impossible for you to be seen even when you run up beside some guy.

Exactly like Rogue Warrior, then. Run up to one dude, kill him. Run up to the dude standing 10ft away and who didn't hear a thing, kill that dude, and so forth. I mean, why are these dudes even standing guard?

Animations are just as hilariously buggy, too.

yeah, I kinda want to see Predator and Marine gameplay before I totally write this off.  Even in AvP2 I didn't like playing as the Alien.

I do like that they updated AvP1 for modern computers.  I'd like it if they did that with more older games, specifically system shock 2, which I've been meaning to replay for 3 years now but can't on my computer.  I'd also take AvP2 because I remember liking it a lot more than the first game.

The 10 minute gameplay trailers of the Predator and Marine missions sold me. This game oozes atmosphere. They're really making an attempt to tie all 3 stories together moreso than the previous entries.

The Predator's voice distractions look really fun to use. I was debating about PC but I think I'm going to pick it up for the 360.

The alien gameplay didn't look great and that's the only gameplay I've seen.  But I never liked playing as the alien in these games.

consensus on pc multiplayer demo: terrible demo, maybe ok game.

The game doesn't seem too bad, but they picked deathmatch as the only mode on a crappy dark map for the demo.  You pick a species, which it hard to figure out because the menu interface is really bad, and kill everything that movies including other players using that same species.  As a marine I was shooting marines, aliens, and predators.  Biggest problem is that this game is context sensitive heavy with unnecessarily long animations.  Like, both Alien and Predator have insta-kill moves from behind, and this is context sensitive, and even after you land it there is a five second animation of the kill.  Another example is how the predator has a leap move that is done by holding down a button, then aiming a cursor on the world to find an acceptable spot to jump, then having to watch the jump animation.

Still, the biggest problem was the demo selection.  Multiplayer only, crappy map, crappy game type, no introduction how to play whatsoever.  Team deathmatch would have been preferable.  The other modes like horde and whatever seem like they could be fun, you just can't try them in the demo.  Same situation with single player.  But I don't know what it says about a game if they thought this was the mode to show off in a demo  :-\

Honestly its weird that they chose a MP demo instead of a SP demo. If that game has any hope of doing well it needs to have a good campaign. Its not the sort of game that can get away with relying on the MP imo. That animation thing sounds lame.

Downloaded and deleted within 15 mintues.

It's just plain old Deathmatch where you kill everybody which is lame. They should have put in Team Deatmatch or one of the more specialized modes at the least.
It has no real instructions or practice mode for a game that is pretty different than most shooters.
Those kill animations that take too long and where you can be killed is a bad design choice.
I played the Predator and the Alien and couldn't even be bothered to try out the soldier.

I mean its kind of neat to play an FPS with three radically different types of characters but they simply haven't kept up with the times design wise. This feels like a game ripped out of the 90's.
They should just focus on trying to make a good single player game before they try to grapple with MP.

The GAF thread is remarkable. I mean, we've all been there with some game, but damn. Apparently shitty netcode and other bugs, crummy graphics, uninspired level design and dodgy gameplay are all acceptable shortcomings. After all, it is "a demo based on a pre-release version."  :wtf

Wow dudes, character animation of the marines is really bad.

But is the game fun? And does the game look great? Everyone keeps saying the game looks great and the lighting is amazing, but I don't believe it.

It's like the most basic form of online shooter, and it looks bleh, and that includes the lighting. Animations are particularly shit. Oh, and there is a focus on extended kill animations, like in Rogue Warrior. They also released a demo that required a patch to even function. bu bu bu Rogue Warrior and Shellshock were developed by a different Rebellion studio!

spoiler (click to show/hide)
That's damned near the exact same argument that Sonytards were pushing before Killzone 1 came out.

I think fans of the Aliens and Predator movies/comics should be sort of pissed off about this, but I guess it's Enter the Matrix all over again.

"Marines trained to ignore strange sounds and forget about missing allies"

That's exactly what that first alien campaign gameplay clip showed. Coupled with dodgy animation transitions, I'd guess it feels more comical than anything.

Don't really get the complaint about the motion tracker, though. That was fucking awesome in AvP2, so maybe Rebellion just failed to deliver the scenarios to make the motion tracking exciting.
