I kinda like the fusion of the original designs with the live/CG movie style.

I rarely feel like I'm so out of the loop as I do when I see this game.  To me it looks like it lacks the appeal of a Transformers game.  I don't read the extended fiction of Transformers (...) but the appeal of Transformers was always the "robots in disguise".  That meant having the robot that transformers into a regular car and having that contrast between regular humans and buildings and the large transformers.  This is a bunch of metal dudes fighting in a metallic environment.  I don't get it at all.

The reason I would be skeptical has more to do with how IP games tend to suck in general . The appeal of the game slightly has to do with that it doesn't strictly toe the line with the pure Bayformers re-imagining look which is god awful. It has a retro look combined with a little bit of the hard metal of Bayformers. Cybertron episodes even in the cartoons were a pretty metallic environment so if you are taking it to that planet rather than earth, this isn't too far theoretically from the source material.

High Moon studios is also a decent studio. Darkwatch nor the Bourne Conspiracy are great games but they are mostly solid competent affairs. This will probably end up being the same.

I see a lot of cinematics and very little gameplay. Is this a 3rd person action game, like GOW? The first video, all cine, I thought it was going to be an RTS...  :-[

So far the best Transformers game has been the Playstation 2 game released by Atari. I had so much fun with that one. Very underrated.

My first early impression is... It's kinda fun.

It's neat running around with the transformers and being able to transform at will. I wish the environments were a little larger. Maybe some are in the full game. The graphics are also pretty ugly imo. But the core aspect of being a transformer is pretty fun. Has a COD style progression unlock system. It's pretty much ripping off the entire COD system as it has Perks and killstreaks although you can only unlock up to like Level 3 in the demo. The two gameplay types available in the demo are domination and Team DM.

Played a few games now. It's pretty solid. It's not rewriting the book on MP but its a solid execution on transformers in that environment.

You have four classes. Unfortunately only two are unlocked in the demo and the jets aren't one of them. Basically the humanoid form is your walking form. Its slower but has better firepower. Then when you click in the thumbstick you can transform into your vehicle form. So it's kinda nice in that you can use it in many different ways. You can use your vehicles to get in close and then transform to deal damage or you can use your vehicle as an escape method if you are taking damage. The vehicle also can fire itself.

You have special abilities on your left and right bumpers which have a cool down time. Some of them are things like hover or go into a stealth mode, etc. Some of them are unlocked down the road. You also have two weapons which you customize a bit on the loadout screen. Typical assortment of weapons. Snipers, Shotgun, pistols, etc.

The energy system is slightly different. You have a health bar that doesn't recharge automatically. You have to go refill it at energon cubes which are scattered about the map.

My main complaint is with the size and layout of the maps which seem generic and smallish rather than anything with the gameplay itself.

I'm interested to play the full MP via gamefly when it comes out. Adding to my queue now.

This game is pretty fun.  Still not a fan of the style, but it is definitely fun.  Didn't check if there were other control styles, but I thought the way they adapted Call of Duty controls to this only kinda worked.  I accidentally transformed into a hover car thing randomly, and the melee seems like you need to press it a couple times.

There is an alternate control scheme that moves transform to the Y button and weapon switching to the D-pad.

demo is really fun. i was totally blindsided by how enjoyable it is since i had written it off as trash from the moment it was announced.

i think i'm just gonna get this instead of crackdown 2. pretty sure highmoon was at least able to implement MM for co-op lol

This demo is AWESOME.

Very fun, smooth to play. The multi is really fleshed out and all that. I threw this on GameFly immediately. Achievements dont look too bad either, just some grinding but the TDM mode is awesome. They won my interest. It even has campaign co-op.

As soon as I played the demo I put it on my Gamefly list. I think the MP is gonna be pretty fun and hopefully it goes into my rotation until the fall shooters come out.

I honestly don't have much hope for the sp but at least its co-op. Almost every thing is better with co-op so at least I can enjoy it on that level.

I played as a Scout. I was just sitting afar and pecking people off with my sniper. When they got close, I would bust out my ENERGON SWORD.

TDM is dope. I didnt try the other mode but I only like twitchy Deathmatch gaming.

What's kinda neat is that 2 of the classes aren't even available yet and the one I'm most interested in is the jets. They seem to have done a really smart design on the class setups. I like also how some of the classes have perks and bonuses that buff your team.

Plus its just bad ass rolling around as a transformer and transforming on the fly.

Someone posted this over at GAF a few days back.

Quote
For anyone who's interested .. here is a list of Killstreaks, Abilities, and Weapons that I managed to find when the first MP trailer was released by me freezing the video at the parts which give this information. It should be about 95% accurate:

KILLSTREAKS

Soldier:
3 Kills = Ammo Matrix; Refills Ammo & Grenades for Team
5 Kills = Electromagnetic Pulse; Jams enemy abilities for a time
7 Kills = Omega Missile; Guided Missile capable of mass destruction

Scientist:
3 Kills = Health Matrix; Teammates receive health for each kill
5 Kills = Overshield Matrix; Teammates receive Overshields
7 Kills = Nucleon Shock Cannon; Spawn a useable rocket turret

Scout:
3 Kills = Orbital Beacon (i.e. UAV); Displays enemy location
5 Kills = Energon Recharger; Health constantly regenerates for a time
7 Kills = Orbital Beacon 2.0; Causes a level-wide EMP blast and tags all enemies with marked targets

Leader:
3 Kills = Intercooler; Greatly reduces the cool-down time for abilities
5 Kills = P.O.K.E. 2.0 (???); Deadly melee attack that causes enemies to explode
7 Kills = Thermo Mine Re-Spawner; Spawn a trail of thermo mines

SPECIAL ABILITIES

Soldier:
Hover = Abilities to hover in the air and increase weapon damage
Whirlwind = Whirlwind melee attack
Ammo Beacon = Beacon that'll automatically refill teammate's ammo when they are near it
Energon Slug (?) = Disables enemy abilities for a time

Scientist:
Shockwave = Pushes enemies back and causes damage
Spawn Sentry = Spawns a sentry at a location
Drain = Syphons health from enemies
Disguise = Appear as an Ally to the enemy (SABOTEUR!!!)

Scout:
Cloaking = Becomes nearly invisible
Dash = Quick dask in a direction
Decoy Trap = Spawns a decoy pick-up that'll stun enemies when touched
Mark Target = Tags enemy with EMP pulse which weakens their armor and reveals their location

Leader:
Warcry = Area of effect, improves armor and increases damage output
Moleculon Bomb = Slows enemies when they are near it and explodes
Barrier = Deploys and Energon shield barrier
Disruption = Forces victim to change form and locks them in that form for a brief time

WEAPONS

I wasn't able to get all the weapon descriptions, just the 3 from the Soldier class were shown in the video.

Soldier:
Neutron Assault Rifle; Rapid-fire mid-range AR
Thermo Rocket Launcher
X12 Scrapmaker; Full-auto mini-gun
EMP Shotgun; Semi-auto close-combat shotgun

Scientist:
Neutron Assault Rifle; Rapid-fire mid-range AR
Photon Burst Rifle
Energon Repair Ray
EMP Shotgun; Semi-auto close-combat shotgun
Energon Grenades
Energon Club

Scout:
Plasma Cannon
Hull Ray
Energon Battle Pistol
Scatter Blaster
Energon Sword
EMP Grenades

Leader:
Ion Blaster
Energon Battle Pistol
Plasma Cannon
Energon Axe
Thermo Mine
Magma Frag Launcher

Demo is online only. Not sure how long it will be up. For example they took down the blur demo for awhile and then put it back up. I have a feeling they might do the same here since this isn't going to be a big seller

Still an awesome game. The levels feel maybe a bit too long. It's like ok, level's over... nope, still a little more.

Used $15 rewards to pick this up today at BB.  Not really feeling it after the first 30 minutes.

The combat feels weird because instinctively I keep wanting to find cover like Gears but there is no cover system.  Luckily or not, cover's not really needed because enemies are too dumb to hurt you.  I'm a little disappointed that the combat is not more strategic since this game is mostly a shooter.  If the shooting weren't going to be great, I'd rather that there was a stronger emphasis on melee combat like the cartoons.

This is on normal, btw.  Maybe I've to bump it up a notch?

Also, like Split Second, there's a 30 FPS cap on the PC port to match the shitty console versions.  WTF, the game can clearly run at 60 fps on many PCs.  Hopefully this distinguished mentally-challenged trend won't continue.   >:(

Dang, I might have to go out and buy an actual retail game at full price. I watched the IGN review (which gave it a  9.0 fwiw) and it kinda looks like it's this years Batman: AA - a game that's better than it has any right to be.

Some people are very mixed on the single player so I might hold up if I were you. (Although it does have co-op which is welcome).

I think the multiplayer is pretty cool and that is honestly the bigger draw in the package.

But I guess I'll know for sure in a day or two.
