Also, would be incredibly uninteresting unless you consider doug and I trying to one up the each other's metaphors for an entire segment fascinating listening.

Good episode!  I like all the weird novelty songs from the 30's and 40's.

Doug complains that Bayonetta's cutscenes and minigames are awful, and asks why the entire game can't just be beat-em-up action.  To me that's just like asking why movies can't just be nonstop action.  You need pacing.  You need something in between the action sequences to let people calm down and relax for a little while.  Even though I didn't care for Angel Attack or the cutscenes, I would have felt pretty overwhelmed if the game was just wall-to-wall action without a break.

Drinky is right about Bayo's enemy design. When you beat the game a gallery opens up and there's a 3D model viewer. The angels have such detail put in them, it's crazy. You wouldn't notice most of the stuff in-game, quite a bit of care was put in them. And I agree with border, the game has those moments so you are never doing one thing for too long, so you'll never get bored.

Final Fight is one of Bayonetta's most primitive ancestors, and even there they realized that the action had to be broken up by cutscenes and bonus stages.  What Final Fight does better is that the minigames are just an extension of combat (smash up a car, break barrels), whereas Bayonetta's minigame is something completely disconnected from the normal combat.  Maybe they should have had some Alfheim-style time challenges instead of Angel Attack, where instead of earning bullets for the minigame in normal stages, you earn bonus seconds so that you have longer to complete the time challenge.

Why are people in this thread taking Bayonetta's story seriously? It's just an excuse to make some flashy and funny cutscenes. Taking time out of your life to analyze it even a little or compare it to other games is a waste of time and you should be ashamed of yourself.

The serious analysis of Bayonetta's cut scenes in this thread make me :lol

The game doesn't take itself seriously and I thought all the stuff with Luka and Cerezita was awesome.  Luka constantly getting owned by Bayonetta and Cerezita is so adorable!

My only complaint is I wanted to see more of Rodin, he's so fucking badass.  I hope he's playable in the sequel.

Am I the only one that gets sad when Kevin talks about how he sells his personal possessions to pay for gaming?  And now he's out of possessions to sell, so I just picture a guy coming home from a hard day of hanging Sheetrock to an empty living room with a TV on a cinder block and a fold-up lawn chair.

Plus it's only a matter of time until the only thing left to sell is his body.

I do that too. I don't like to acquire stuff, and I like to be somewhat thrifty, so in order to justify purchasing something for pure entertainment purposes I will make myself sell older games or movies that I don't like anymore or have gotten full use out of. I think its a smart way to manage discretionary spending

I sold off all of my 360 games to get another 360 (an Arcade unit).  I want to just Gamefly shit from here on out.

I remember wanting to collect as much games as possible until I realized that it is very expensive and a lot of these games rapidly depreciate over time, unless you're buying rare shit (like Zone of the Enders 2 apparently) and even that is a gamble.  Now I'm almost the polar opposite - most of the time I only play a game to completion once and even sometimes, I don't even play them until completion.

I understand where he is coming from.  I still have a few DVDs and box sets I can sell off if I want to.

I maintain a budget-neutral (except for Nov-Dec) gaming hobby, selling stuff to fund other purchases. Keeps things relatively uncluttered around the house-it's the accumulation of stuff that bothers me the most.

I got the sense that Kevin was actually selling personal possessions like appliances and TVs and furniture and shit -- not just trading in games for other games.  If it's just the Gamestop burn-through then it's not really sad.

I don't re-sell many games because I don't buy many games in the first place.  My biggest game collection was probably for PS2 and I doubt it ever got above 25 games.  Trade in-value for stuff is so pathetic that I doubt I could bring myself to part with any of the stuff I have in fact purchased.
