I love that I can walk into any grocery store in Seattle and pick up one of these:

I watched a documentary called Beer Wars recently, about the impact of the major brewers and their mass production on beer culture. Very depressing stuff, although it seems to have spawned a healthy backlash. I'd imagine wine is broadly similar. The urge to create consistent product is laudable to a degree, and the technical aspects of it are impressive. However, when that product or methods come to dominate, it actually hurts the market because everything becomes bland and consumers ultimately rebel. (or we get Idiocracy).

I caught a screening of Beer Wars at a local brewpub over the Summer... that was entertaining with a room full of people who would rather drink their own piss than a Bud Light. :lol

I don't think I can bring alcohol on the plane, but I'd to love to hook you guys up!

I am planning on bringing all of you something beer related, though.

My friend Shawn (who you will likely meet) did exactly that last time he was in the US, actually. But just kidding. We can get all that stuff in Tokyo, it just requires a bit of legwork.

If, on the other hand, Mr. Gundam ever comes to Osaka, he will need to supply his own Rogue Ale. And mine. AFAIK it is not attainable even with legwork, unless it is working my legs all the way to Tokyo.

There's actually a local beer I want to bring you guys called Manny's Pale Ale made by the Georgetown Brewery, but they don't bottle it. You can either fill up a growler at the brewery or get it on tap around town.

No, you can bring stuff.  Just duct tape the tops.

Checked baggage, right? As long as it doesn't explode in my luggage I'll consider it.

Drinking some wine from a local vineyard.  Not bad stuff.  Especially considering I live in Kentucky.

Saturday, I went to whiskey ward and got to try a glass of Pappy Van Winkle 20 year old.

it was pretty fucking amazing.  I'm a convert.

Shame it was $14 per pour though.

but goddamn it was smooth.

Now to find a way to get it locally

Shitty $12 a bottle cheap whiskey in a bottle that tries to look like Jack. Tastes like cold medicine.

Whole Foods had 6-packs of Rogue Juniper Pale Ale last night. Never seen it in anything but pints and on tap before...

I bought two 6-packs. :rock

We're doing six-day weeks, and I'm running between 11~13 hours every day so the one-day-weekend has to be done up right: We had a grilled meats party last night, went through four bottles of wine, one of which was one of my favorite cheapies: Pepperwood Grove Merlot. We also got through half a 1.8l bottle of Yamaneko shochu, traipsed through 500ml of a 30 year old reserve rice shochu, a bottle of Glenfiddich 18, and even pushed some Bailey's and milk over ice for two guys who normally don't drink much.

Stunningly there was no puking and no hangovers. God smiles upon the foolish.

Played a game of 8-ball against my friend/soon to be boss at work where when your opponent made a ball you drank. My drink was Wild Turkey 101. I had 4 shots before the game even started. Also smoked ALOT before the game. Could not stand up straight to knock in the 8.

We went on a camping trip a couple months back and we were just going to be making screwdrivers with a bunch of my wife's family.  I didn't want to spend money on good shit to share with 20 people and just mix with orange juice.  So I bought a couple bottles of McCormick and Popov.  At least we had a selection!

It's just that of the few college parties I've been to, they only had Popov (I don't drink beer, plus they only had Keystone and Natty anyways), and that shit is plain disgusting. What I don't understand is that there's a BevMo in the college town, and yet nobody uses it, apparently.

More whisky-and-water; Glenfiddich caused me to obsess over a mosquito trapped in my office with me. I finally killed it, and it can't wake me up at 4 a.m. by whining in my ear. I WIN!

In other news: it's spring, and more mosquitos will soon follow.  :-\

Had the opportunity to try some Waterloo Dark this past weekend. It was pretty mellow, a nice surprise as I've never been overly fond of dark beers.

Worked 13.5 hours yesterday after a 12 hour Sunday -- killed my bottle of Glenfiddich with the neighbor after I got home. Realized I like the taste of whisky but it doesn't make me buzzed.  :-\ That, or I was so tired already, the buzzed feeling was indiscernible from simple fatigue.

Think I'm going to switch back to sake/nihonshuu, since it's easier for me to get loopy on.

Excellent Sunday: started with a couple cans of Yebisu with lunch on my deck, beautiful clear day; progressed into a little Talisker 18, got through most of a 1.8L bottle of plum wine, and am about to leap headlong into some steaks and red wine choice of whatever the cook is making. Been plowing mineral water as well, trying to stay ahead of a hangover. Life is good this lovely day.

Jinro House Wine. Only the finest. Tastes kinda like Night Train. It's only 12:25 here, but it's 5:25 somewhere!

Lately I've been getting into mixing beers.  Right now I'm drinking one part Young's Double Chocolate Stout with one part Lindeman's Framboise Lambic. I cannot believe how good this tastes.
That sounds pretty awesome.

Last night I had a "Silk Yebisu" - a lighter version of the standard Yebisu, I'm guessing to pander to the all-pilsner loving Japanese market. It was pretty good, but I like the hoppy normal Yebisu better.

If you're going to drink, at least try to drink something that won't make you blind.

Hey guys I finally got drunk for the first time in my life a few weeks ago with my Australian cousin.

Like four bottles of Widmer Hefeweizen and two bottles of Newcastle Brown Ale. I usually hate beer but both of those were pretty tasty.

To me, being drunk is the inverse of being high. When I'm drunk I can't control my body at all, but my mind is completely fine. When I'm high I can't think for shit but my body can operate all by itself. Weird.

Oh I'm describing the overall feeling. Really grand generalizations here, if that wasn't obvious enough. I got so fucked up on weed last night I thought I was going to die, and I was ready to see the afterlife.

I haven't been 'drunk enough' and tbh I never want to.

Went out for yakitori last night to a local place where the guy knows what types of sake I like. We went through 3.6 liters of Harushika Chou-Karakuchi. I am, today, a little bit worse for wear.
