Nice. I just did challenge 5, so I'll give #6 a shot. I've gotten the blue bogey on 5-3 down to 20-30% like 10 times, this shit is driving me crazy. Still only one guy on the leaderboard and apparently he works for future press... lol

The other guy has a negative score as well. I guess they weren't backing out to the title screen when they died. People will probably think I cheated for my score, but that's the same shit everyone did in Bayonetta for Pure Platinums and no one bitched. So fuck it.

I have no clue how much I died. The final boss was probably 12-15 hours straight of getting murdered. There's some pretty rough sections throughout the campaign as well, but nothing that took more than an hour or two to get past. So all I can say is I died several hundred times.

Also Vanquish is as much a Gears clone as Devil May Cry is a Dynasty Warriors clone.

Challenge 6 done. :D

Only took me a couple hours, God Hard is about 50x harder. But the tips demi posted on x360a were pretty helpful (mainly for wave 3 -- I had no idea you could shoot that little turret off the romanov). Now I just need to clean up the rest of the achievements for the 1000.

Actually, maybe God Hard isn't that much harder. I just got a message from a guy saying it only took him a couple hours to beat it thanks to the strategy I posted. I could see challenge 6 being infuriating if you don't have a strategy going in as well.

A good tip for the BFAs that I haven't seen many people mention is to use the melee on the HMG. Don't hit anything and go into ARS mode, it works as a ghetto jump button. Gives you a good view on the BFA's weak point on the back of their neck when they're in scorpion modo.

According to this Zenimax (people who bought id and owns Bethesda) buys Shinji Mikami's company.

Zenimax just confirmed it’s bought Tango Gameworks and, with it, Resident Evil creator Shinji Mikami.

“It’s refreshing to find a publisher who understands, trusts, and supports the development of blockbuster games and works to make it a collaborative effort,” said Mikami.

“The library of AAA franchise titles ZeniMax owns speaks for itself. We are very excited to be joining ZeniMax and working with a company that is dedicated to creating the best games ever made.”

The studio, based in Tokyo, will stay under Mikami’s direction.

“Shinji Mikami has earned a stellar reputation as one of the industry’s finest game developers,” said Zenimax chief Robert Altman.

“He has repeatedly created hit titles that have earned praise from fans and critics around the world. We share his vision for innovative, genre-defining games and look forward to working with Shinji and his team at Tango.”

Nothing was mentioned in the press release of any specific dev project. Mikami’s most recent title is Sega shooter Vanquish, developed at Platinum.

The move is the latest in a string of high profile buys for Zenimax, which include id Software and Arkane Studios.

So I'm in Act 3, having a blast, rolling around slo-mo shooting stuff, boosting around from spot to spot.
I've been avoiding the official Vanquish threads because I don't want to spoil anything from GoTY Vanquish but I was checking out the Bayo vs. Vanq thread at gaf and I realized there are combat options I didn't even know about in Vanquish that will probably make the game even MORE fun than it is already.

So can someone explain all the things you can do in combat?

-For instance, someone in that thread said you can circle strafe shoot while boosting and it'll go into slow-motion?????  I didn't know you could shoot while boosting!  I'd go out of boost, tap roll+aim for slow-mo, kill, let go, boost.
-Also, someone said each weapon has a unique melee attack??  I don't think I've used melee at all so far in the game because I remember in the demo it taking out your entire boost bar for 1 punch.  When is melee useful without leaving you open to instant death afterwards?

What I know I can do (and have been doing so far):
-shoot grenades (yours and theirs)
-flipping around with slo-mo shots
-boosting around
-riding mechs
-upgrading weapons

Also how does the game tally score?

There are two weapons that have good melee (maybe three): If you melee with the saw gun, it'll rip right through an enemy and won't absorb your ARS meter. You can melee as much as you want with it. The HMG's melee can be useful as well, but not as a melee. If you're standing a distance from an enemy, you can melee and then hold aim. Sam does a backflip and goes into ARS in mid-air, basically working as a jump button. The shotgun's melee has some invincibility to it according to the load screen, but I never bothered using it.

If you aim while boosting, it goes into ARS. It's not terribly useful but it's something you can do anyway. You can also go into ARS when you vault over cover, just hold LT. And you can ARS after dropkicking someone, but your suit will overheat when you land. It's mainly useful once you have two or three enemies left since it does major damage.

Scoring is very simple and straight forward. Kill as many guys as you can (in a row, for a bonus) as quickly as you can. If you finish the level very quickly, you get +5000 pts. The slower you are the less points you'll get.

I need to start my second God Hard run up. I got too many damn games to play. :-\

Ok, cool.  Will experiment with the melee a bit.  When you say dropkicking someone....how do you do that?

So the scoring doesn't take into account that other stuff in the score screen like % in cover or friendlies killed?  It's just pure arcade enemies killed x clear time?

Also does every weapon have a use?  I never use the saw gun or lock-on laser because the former seems too slow rate of fire and the latter seems incredibly weak.  I stick to Shotgun/HMG and EMP or Rocket or Sniper depending on the situation for my top-weapon and Assault Rifle if I run out of HMG.  So far I've put all my upgrades into my Shotgun and maxed it out.  Not sure what to start upgrading next.

Dropkick = melee while boosting.

Every weapon is useful, more or less. The least useful is the saw blade, since it's really only good as a melee weapon. The lock-on laser seems bad at first, but it's actually pretty useful in certain situations. It kills regular grunt enemies in 1 or 2 shots, and you can lock-on and blind fire as you're running somewhere, so you don't even need to aim. I think the higher the difficulty you play on, the more useful it becomes. I never used it much on normal, but on God Hard I usually picked it up when I came across it. The LFE gun seems kinda crappy at first, but it's pretty good for clearing some space. If you've got a bunch of romanovs coming after you, and you have no shields, you can just blase them with the LFE and it'll send them flying, giving you time to recover. The sniper kinda sucks too, but again, on the higher difficulties it can kill any grunt enemy with one headshot, which can be very useful in certain fights. The AR, HMG, shotgun, and rocket are awesome of course. The AR is the best all-around weapon in the game.

Nothing in the stats screen affects your score except for how many times you die (-1000 points for each death I think) and how quickly you beat it.

Forgot to mention, you can 'backpack' reload your weapons, in case you didn't know. For example, if you're firing the AR, and you start reloading, immediately switch over to the HMG; you'll be able to continue firing uninterrupted as your AR reloads automatically. So you basically never have to wait to reload your weapons in this game.

Good info, thanks man :)

Even on normal I'm finding the sniper rifle pretty nice for just popping out and 1 shot killing enemies one after another.  The LFE is good like you said for clearing room.  Will give the saw blade another chance with melee and lock-on...I dunno, I might just save it for my next run on hard.  I'm guessing after you upgrade the lock-on laser it becomes a lot nicer.

Finished this off tonight.  Final boss fight was just pure fuck awesome.  Though I'm curious how they make it hard on the higher difficulties.  Since there are only 2 enemies and all their attacks are dodgeable it didn't seem that bad.  Especially since you had lots of room to work with.  Do they just make their attacks way faster and more damaging so you have to be far more accurate in your dodge timing and not make mistakes?

The 2nd to last boss is what gave me the most trouble.  Tiny room with tons of guys flying in the air shooting me no matter where I was argughhghgh.  Once I got rid of the grunts finally it was fine, but died a handful of times.

Overall I thought it was really really good.  The combat is fast and furious, there's hardly any "down" points so it should be pretty replayable.  The boss fights were rad and all the enemy types were really fun to fight against.

A few of the spots that stuck out as zomgggg moments to me were:
spoiler (click to show/hide)
Climbing the giant robot at the end of Act 3
Zero gravity tunnel in Act 4
Fighting the flying buzzard while in the transport across the water in Act 3
[close]

The only things I didn't like was that Act 4 lacked a big crazy boss fight like the others, certain parts of the game suffer from Japanese devs lack of experience with HDR lighting and so sometimes it's too dark and other times it's too bright.  For instance in Act 4 the jungle stuff I had a hard time seeing what was going on because it was too bright and cluttered.

Otherwise total A++ action.  I thought normal was kind of easy.  Not that it was literally easy, but rather I expected the game to get continually harder and harder like a Japanese action game, but I felt like from act 3 the difficult just kind of remained the same until the credits.  Going to jump into hard now and that'll probably be the sweet spot for me since I suck at shooters so God Hard is probably out of the question.  Just want a difficulty that gives a bit more intensity and death.  Looking forward to messing with the challenges too since the combat is so good.

The upgrade system I didn't love or hate.  I liked it, but I also hated losing that 1 level when you die.  Mainly because the Shotgun is AMAZINGLY GOOD maxed, but at rank 9 it's kind of just ok.  So that was annoying when I lost it.  I never even understood the upgrade through picking up when ammo is full method.  Sometimes it would add a V and I don't know what that means.

Oh and melee was fun to finish enemies off with.  Very satisfying.  I enjoyed meleeing the final boss a few times and then flipping like hell away ^^;

So I started playing hard and is the only difference between the difficulty levels that the enemies do more damage and take less?  I noticed I was running out of ammo on hard whereas on normal that never really happened.  Definitely makes it a little more interesting because you gotta keep rotating weapons since ammo is valuable.  Also have to be more careful since you die so quickly.

Was kind of hoping the difficulty levels would be like Bayo/DMC where they start throwing the later enemies at you earlier in the game and change up the enemies you face in each room so it feels like a whole new game each time you go up a difficulty level.

I've never played Hard (just casual/normal/god), but they do change the enemy spawns from Normal to God Hard for sure. You fight higher rank enemies in every battle pretty much. As for the last boss... yes, technically everything they shoot is dodgeable, but they are INSANELY difficult on God Hard, at least until you get the strategy for it. It took me like 3 days of non-stop trying in order to beat them and I was still one of the first in the world to do it. Never felt so relieved to beat a fucking game in my life. I'm not sure of the exact differences between normal and GH, but for starters, one hit from them puts you into overheat and it's extremely hard to recover from that. The cover around the arena is constantly shifting as well, making it so you have to move constantly. I don't think that happens on normal, but I can't really remember.

The upgrade system is kinda eh. If your shotgun has full ammo, and you pick up another shotgun, it'll give you a minor rank increase. You need three of them I think in order to get one upgrade. But doing that kinda discourages you from using that weapon if you're trying to min/max, soooo they probably should have thought that through better. It's no big deal though, the weapon upgrades is more of a nice bonus and not at all necessary, since God Hard does not allow you to upgrade weapons at all.

Also if you really want to keep your weapon levels and avoid the death penalty to your score, just exit back to the title screen and reload the checkpoint. Exploits. 8)

I played on hard from the start and backed down to normal (or casual...can't remember) to get one trophy and there were changes.  Fewer enemies and they were in different positions.

Need help.  So I got to the dark tunnels with the walking green spider bombs on my hard run but I can't figure out how to kill the green bombs fast enough and they keep destroying the tank.  There has to be a trick to taking them out fast.  What is it?

This reminds me that the silly non-action stuff was the only parts I didn't like in the game.  The escort section with the tank and like the part where you have to defend the 3 rail gun tanks in act 3.  Action games should stick to being about shooting things and staying alive!

I TOLD YOU THAT PART WAS distinguished mentally-challenged AND SHIT

But loser weeaboo bias fucks disagree

Anyway. Use HMG and just shoot them from afar (the giant jellyfish). The little spiders you can just pop with LFE, they dont take much to kill
