Hmmm, so there is a chance that it cracked 100k.  But expect that to be the end of it.

Bayonetta's sold over a million copies worldwide, don't think it qualifies as a bomb.

Those are shipped numbers.

Do you understand who pays the publisher for the game dude? It's not you and me.

Ah, so those Bayonetta numbers aren't shipped numbers?

Are you fucking distinguished mentally-challenged?

looks like were going to to have to spell this out in plain english for our TripleA:

1 million units shipped counts a decent numbers, as the STORES have paid for one million copies from Sega. Store pays publisher for product (shipped), we pay store and get our game (sales).

And its really no surprise that the sell through for Bayonetta hasnt been great. The wacky jappy aesthetic would turn the majority of US Xbox owners away from the game. Darksiders outsold it as its just your typical buff warrior types cruising around looking for bros, which is what the game companies think that it is so marketable

I think the problem is the only marketing this game got on the internets was a big flashing word of mouth that PS3 VERSION SUCKS.  So PS3 owners were scared off and that just left the X360 owners and yeah it was too wacky jappy for them.

Maybe on a subconscious level.  But then again a shitty game deserves to sell poorly.

PS3 will return to its old spot because the positions of the generation were cemented after the first year or two.  The 360, much like the PS2 the previous generation, is the preferred multiplatform system to the masses.  Although it probably won't see the dismal performances it had this time last year though but it will remain in third place for the rest of this generation.

PS3 is done for and hell it was done for for the last 3 years.

It is kind of sad the only PS3 titles that break "millon copies sold" barrier are shitty multiplatform titles like Modern Warfare 2 or another FIFA game.

I will still own one for GoW3 and FF13 though.

Capcom has sold 1.1M copies of the game. Retailers resold 550k in two territories in the launch month. Call that 800k globally? If retailers are not happy selling 800k copies in the first month, perhaps they will only order .8M copies of Capcom's next theoretical new IP action game. Who gives a shit?

I cannot believe that MAG charted so high. I like the game and all, but I never expected it to be in the top 20.

It's done much better than that in Europe. Sort of surprising, but I guess it's a shooter by Zipper, so there's probably a default audience there.

That's right around where I would have pegged it sales wise which isn't so great for a first party game.

I dont think so,unless you mean by chart position in UK,but be warned, last week UK MAG sales where less than 23k,first week was less than 43k...we know this because MW2 sales are known, via percentage drop
In the rest of Europe it barely charted...

I only saw one week of sales, so you're probably right. Still, I didn't expect it to chart anywhere. A slow, steady seller perhaps, but it's probably the least accessible mainstream-type game I've played this century.

I wonder why Sony didn't put some subscription model in MAG...game=30 or 40$,comes with one month free play,if you want to play more buy subscription.
256 players could be easily used as excuse...

You're right, that isn't great for a fist party game. Maybe it would have done better in the summer when the Modern Warfare bug had died down and Bad Company 2 had a chance to release.

For a shooter, it's not very welcoming to players that want a quick bullet-fest. It's a game that takes time to really grasp and even then, you probably wont be pulling down kill after kill.

Stepping aside from the quality of the game which is a separate subjective debate, it's a multiplayer only title, it's a new IP, its got competition from more well known franchises, and the singular hook of it being 256 players online isn't the massive draw for mainstream consumers that I think they think it is.

Considering all that it had going against it I would say those relative sales are decent but they certainly aren't anything overly impressive from a first party standpoint.

As usual the caveat is that analysis is not about the quality of said game which I haven't played so I can't really comment on.

PSP 100.1K

I wonder how well the Go did. :lol

You probably just have to move the decimal one two places to the left. :teehee

Fixed.

Mojo - Last I heard/read was Sony was at 33 million and MS was at around 39 million WW shipped/sold.

wow, impressive stuff for Sony.  Their brand equity saved their asses this gen, as hard as they tried to squander it.

Anyone know off hand how many 360s were sold in the first year?  I would guess about 7-10 million, but I know there were supply problems for some months, along with there not being a ton of system sellers.

The Xbox 360 is almost five years old at this point, that's irrelevant :lol

Its got at least 2 years left in it. Both of them do. The Ps3 could catch up in 2 years. It likely won't, but you never know.

Anyways, sales figures are distinguished mentally-challenged, because MS will make tons more money from this generation than Sony.

They will almost certainly continue to gain on them on a world wide basis. It's less likely they will gain significantly on them in the US. Of course Sony went from a PS 2 level of success to where they are now so any "victory" over Microsoft on the numbers basis is a pyrrhic one at best.
