The standard size map is too small.

Montezuma hates city states.

Darius made peace with me by giving me 3 of his cities and my happiness plunged to -19. I ended up giving 2 back to him since they had poor food sources and the unhappiness didn't change. I ended up having to build 4 Colosseums and 2 circuses to counter it. My gold plunged too and a couple of units disbanded over it.
It's the last time I go to war with someone cause Caesar didn't do shit in the war.

There's plenty of things I don't like about this but there's so much to love. Telling Elizabeth the horde of swordsmen outside the London border are "just passing through", before storming through her territory.

I'm torn on how long it takes to produce units/buildings. On one hand it forces you to be much more strategic and thoughtful about what you do, but then I'm only able to produce 2 iron units in the time I go from Swordsmen to Gunpowder units seems distinguished mentally-challenged.

I hate how quickly the city states relationship declines. I'm ignoring them now because it feels like a waste of time.

I was up till 1:30am last night playing :(

Loving the game, but the AI is pretty distinguished mentally-challenged.  I was attacking a capital and the CPU removed his garrisoned unit to rush me.  ???

That was on prince (ie normal)

Yeah the AI seems distinguished mentally-challenged. So many random cities pop up as well. CPU dumped a city in the middle of my empire, behind a number of my cities, while the rest of his cities were on the other side of the map.

Grab some siege weapons and go to town.  The AI is pretty dumb right now and you shouldn't have too much of a problem outplaying them.  Try to sweet talk Rome into going to war and let Napoleon fight that front while you come in from the other side.

If you were to compare Civ4 in its current state to Civ5, I would recommend Civ4, but I feel that Civ5 has a better foundation to work with compared to its prequel and will end up being a better game in a few years.

Got my new computer. Still don't have a really good videocard. I just replaced my old one with the same model. I'll probably get a new one next year or something. But at least now I can play and the game should look decent to pretty good. Can't wait to try it out this evening.

I quit what probably would have been a Japan Domination victory on Emperor.  It was basically a rush build to Samurai on a 4 player map and I took out 1 faction and was just too lazy to finish the game.  Instead, I started a new Emperor game as India (8 or 10 players, can't remember) and won a social victory.  1 city, I held off Napoleon twice in the first 150 turns until he finally gave me fair peace conditions and then dropped my military completely and gave him all my strategic resources to keep him happy which worked, was still in the Industrial era on turn 492 when I built my Utopia.

Over the weekend I played as Egypt on the Earth map (largest size) on King difficulty and basically could have won a Social, Tech, or Diplomacy victory but finished the Space Race first (2017 maybe).  The turn lengths near the end were nearly unbearable, though.

Played for a number of hours this evening. Enjoyable.

It's interesting. It's both very user friendly and also a bit confusing to a civ veteran at the same time. I like how there are lots of prompts for things and instruction but its also a bit hard to find out exactly how the numbers work on certain game mechanics which is always a big part of civ. I'm still trying to figure some of that out.

King don't fuck around. I had a decent army and was unexpectedly double teamed by the Egyptians and Sumerian on opposite fronts. I held off Egypt but couldn't get reinforcements to the other side fast enough. I wouldn't have rage quit(first time) if the city that was taken didn't have my prized 6 iron resource. My other 2 iron sources were only 2 a piece.
Rage quit 252 turns in.

Tiny map 1 city challenge on Earth Map is easy so far except for the ridiculous number of barbarians. Problem is that all 4 civs settled in Africa/Asia so everywhere else , especially SE Asia and North America is teaming with Barbarians. They seem to have an endless supply of ships too, it's fucking annoying.

Got my 1 city tiny map cultural victory with 3 turns to spare.

I initially had the Utopia project available to me in 2021, which said it would take 39 turns to complete. I got lucky with some great people (one local, one from a city state) that had me down to 15 in 15, but once it ended I was back to 19 from 15 turns.

I ended up completing it by going into starvation and losing 2-3 population to get me back to 9 turns with 10 years to go. Somehow it ended up being faster than that.

The AI for stopping wars is ridiculously out of whack right now.  I had a situation similar where I was at 'war' with someone but hadn't attacked them in probably 50 turns, and in fact had turned my armies against another country who was at war with them (and closer, and had done more damage.)

In the midst of this war that Egypt had very little to do with they offered me a city, nearly all their gold and five resources to quit the genocide I had waged against their people.

I took it, but I mean, it can't be making that decision.  Left Egypt with two cities too lol.

In my last game as I'm clearly wiping civ after civ off the map, I would offer peace for one resource.  It would be denied and they faced certain death.

I'm sure it will get better, right?

The game is so much fun otherwise.

:lol

I had Elizabeth offer me all her gold + luxury resources to stop a war, when all I did was defend my one city from her army. She still had 5 other cities on the continent.

If you want to see how poor the AI is, go into trade, select a city and ask what they want for it. Usually you can get any sub 3 pop city for 100 gold + a random resource.
