started playing Mass Effect 2 earlier. And straight off the bat I get this Star Wars space battle with zooming noises and huge spaceships doing "evasive maneuvers". Then I get poorly cut scenes of 'waking up', stilted dialog where my 'choices' obviously only change a few words at the start of the sentence, accompanied by awkward animations probably meant to punctuate emotion, but ends up looking aaaaaaaaaass.
Like, I get that I'm a hater, I dislike almost everything I play, but gawd damn... I wanted some in depth dialog system and passable shooty shooty. Isn't that why people peed themselves reviewing this game? because there actually was a dialog system? Is there more divergence in the dialog system later?
The only real choice I've been prompted in the dialog thus far is whether or not we took the purple helmet dude back to our ship or gave him to some lady that apparently knew Shepard. Now, RIGHT BEFORE I WAS PROMPTED TO CHOOSE the purple helmet girl says that I can have the omni-tool with all the data as long as she gets the purple helmet dude, but the choice was 'give the dude up' or 'take the dude'. Why not present me with the option that she just proposed? seemed like it would satiate both parties, but I ended up taking an extreme stance and she got pissy and did an animation that I suppose was supposed to be, like, a 'shake fist angrily' at me or something - guess she doesn't like me now.
