taco-chan, you are young so let me tell you about Vic Ireland

if he's got his people going into the code for ANY reason, you are not going to see this game in the next five years.

Yeah, but we did still get Magic Knight Rayearth though! Not until after the Dreamcast was already out, but we got it.

Sean Lockner on Dec 15
Only 29 more days until the one year anniversary of the last update! Who's excited, I know I am. If you're planning to celebrate the occasion, I recommend throwing a thick stack of cash into a smoldering fire. To remind yourself of the spirit of this project.

Kickstarter :umad

Only Kickstarter I would have backed was Barkley 2, but I was filthy poor at the time. Development of that title seems to be coming along great though
The only Kickstarters I backed were The '90s Arcade Racer and the Pinball Arcade Terminator 2 expansion.

Mega Man fans should be happy that Capcom seemingly forgot about that franchise's 25th Anniversary, because this is what Breath of Fire fans can expect for their 20th:

Yea, I pirated that shit too. Lol. It's neat, and I'm not surprised it hasnt been ported to Steam or anything yet.

I love BOF3 and 4, good classic RPGs to return to now and then.

honestly i could never finish BOF3,i mean it looks amazing and plays well but it drags so friggin much, the first time i played i stopped in that part where you have to gather the ingredient for the cook and it involve a super boring fetch quest, the last time at the bit where you help the weakling get the girl

BOF4 i never played

dragon quarter i hate it's guts... the limited inventory, bare minimum amount of save point (made worse by the fact that you can't quick save in the european version) assholish (though at least big) time limit, minimum amount of plot and slow assed battle always made me wonder if people like the game in the same stockholm syndrome vein a-la dark soul

Dragon Quarter is great. The combat system is fun, being able to influence (and sometimes prematurely end) battles before they properly start is wonderful and I'm not sure it has been repeated to quite this extent. The time-limit is a non-issues once you understand that you're not supposed to lean on your dragon form to beat bosses. Unleashing everything right at the end was a great moment the first time you do. And the story is so sparse the first time through because it's set up to be re-played, which so few JRPGs really are. After the first one a play-through takes a couple of hours maybe. I think you can even selectively skip the old scenes.
It just felt really well crafted and thought through. Might be time to go back and take another look, but I have so much other stuff on PS2 that I've never touched...

BOF3 is a huge slog up until you turn into an adult/teen, yes. Especially the entire jail escape crap with the horses. But once you get over that pretty large hump, it gets way better.

Honestly Dragon Quarter is the only BoF I actually played more than an hour.  The originals never grabbed me at the time, but DQ was pure-butt-rocking awesome.  Love the gameplay which actually required some skill and loved that it wasn't bloated at all.  Was short, to the point, and filled with replay value.  Also a kick ass soundtrack by Sakimoto/Mitsuda and the story was neat too.  Shame Capcom stopped making real rpgs around that point.

BOF1+2 bored me to tears. Never played BOF3 or 4. BOF5 I thought was one of the most innovative and refreshing takes on the rpg formula and it's such a shame it never caught on. I'm not sure why I posted this because it's pretty much in line with other posters thoughts but there it is.

BoF4 is actually the first in the series I ever played. The fact that it wasn't your standard fantasy setting was very appealing. And getting the villains' perspective was pretty cool, too. I even experimented with the combo-system for a while to get ridiculous chains. The dragons were a bit too freaky though. And that bit about creating a god was pretty disturbing. You finally find whatsit's sister, only to realize that the grimey organ dungeon you walked through to get to her is part of her twisted body. :kobeyuck
What is it with JRPGs and walking through some gigantic creatures' guts? Which game started that?

BoF3 I liked because of the growing up-bit and dragon transformations. BoF 1 and 2 were too boring for me to finish.

The first BoF game I played was BoF III that I got when I went to the game store and was like "OMG FINAL FANTASY VII WAS THE BEST GAME EVER, MORE PLZ!" and the guy at the counter tipped back his fedora and informed me that Breath of Fire III was far to superior to FF7, which was a babby game for babbies or something to that effect. So I bought it and played it and beat it and it was pretty good.

FF7 was still better, tho. :patel

Probably walking through the Leviathan in FF2 or getting swallowed by the whale in StarTropics. I always thought that was supposed to be the whole biblical myth or whatever.

"Inside a monster" is more or less a staple level aesthetic alongside "lava level", "ice level", "forest level", etc.

Gradius always had fun inside monster levels.

Cuz now they have HD assets to reuse, son!
HD assets of what?

XIII? Why not make something else if you can reuse those assets for other cheaply made games?

why not? at least it'd be built on a subseries that people like.
Because that sub series has ended fine two times. Why not make something new? If you must make a sequel to a FF there others that don't have sequels.

I believe Oscar is referring to the new assets generated for the X and X-2 re-release, which they could feasibly use for X-3

FFX HD remaster is not a ps2 port and many of the assets aren't ps2. The character models are completely updated and new. This is a major bullet point feature. Have no clue how you guys missed it.

No one missed anything. We all know the models(of the important characters only though and even they don't look that radically better. Just cleaned up.) are new. The ugly Tidus face was the first thing they showed. It's a remaster though, not a remake so I'm not sure how new models means it's not a PS2 port when it still looks like a PS2 HD game and animates like one. Did they redo everything? No, so how do they have tons of assets for a FFX-3? You think they are going to honestly reuse assets of a HD remaster? The game does not look like an actual PS3 game.

Let's consider S-E's history, shall we? They just released an FFIV The After Years 3d version because they reused assets and updated a few models from FFIV ds. Historically, when S-E puts out a new version of an old classic, the art is updated a bit. Like, FF1 nes -> FF1 psx. But it's only a bit. FFX HD Remaster is unique in that it's the first 3d main series FF port - unless you count FFVII/VIII pc and I'm not counting stuff like FFIV DS. S-E took advantage of this and made updated character models and environments. The point isn't that they look ps2-ish, the point is that they now have hd assets. They are going to use that shit for all it's worth.

I thought it was due to the amount of attention it gets from SE? Is it like the company's favorite pet or something?

What attention? FFX hasn't been touched in ten years until this HD remaster and until now has only been available on ps2. S-E's favorites are IV, VII, and I. IV has been ported/remade/re-released a total of 8 times, 9 if you include virtual console. FFX has been re-released once. I think the creators (notably Nojima) certainly have a fascination with FFX, but I don't think it's a favorite.

Can someone explain to me what is so bad about Arkham Origins?

I've played all three in the trilogy, and Origins actually had some of the coolest moments -- deathstroke battle and teaser, the joker-batman-harley romance / fantasy, the firefly boss battle, the lead in to Arkham Asylum -- it was like the perfect prequel for me. I even loved how much of a dick Batman was to Alfred. I get that the gameplay isn't revolutionary, but some of it, like the enhanced detective mode seems like a nice riff on what Rocksteady had already done.

Are people just dying to suck Rocksteady's dick on the next game they do or what? I feel like WB Montreal did a good job here. LTTP I know.
