I found an empty Rust server so I could practice up on the survival part of it without a bunch of armchair hillbillies ganking me every five seconds. After three hours of that I can sort of see why people turn into degenerates. There's just not much to the crafting part of it. It's not much of a game, really. Then I jumped onto a populated server of about 50 people and walked around for over half an hour without seeing a single wood pile, pig, rock, etc. Ended up almost starving to death before I disconnected. I guess resources only spawn in certain areas, and those are the areas most people build homes so they can hoard it all?
Anyway, that was boring as hell. Steam tells me I've played about 6 hours total. That's probably off by a bit, but in any event I think I've had enough. No real goals, crafting is barebones, so in the end there's nothing left to do but fuck with other people. On the Steam store page description the devs don't seem to even have a clue what it is or what it's going to be (in other words they don't appear to have a goal other than collecting up $20 bills), so I'm not sure it's ever going to turn into an actual game at any point.
