Yeah, games like Nocturne or Digital Devil Saga, hell even Persona 4 with it being 80+ hours apparently, seem a bit much for me.

Can you grind in DQ8? If so, I could go into it knowing about the difficulty spike and level up accordingly before that boss fight.

Grinding is possible, although not a requirement for the main game. The post-credits content might be more difficult but I never bothered with that.

Grandia II, Radiata Stories, and Suikoden III or V are good alternatives for beginners too.

DQ VIII is fantastic, really recommend especially if you're looking for something relaxing to play.

There is no need to grind if you do moderate exploration, except for the post credit content. You can if you want to.

It is pretty lengthy though, can easily take 70-80 hours on your first playthrough jost for the normal content. You'll never be really stuck though, it's a pick up and play rpg even if you stopped playing for a couple of weeks.

If you played it how far did you get in Divinity Original Sin? I've booked over 50 hours and made it to the snowy place and have since lost steam. I'm thinking of just waiting for the Enhanced version at this point.

Hitman Blood Money is one the best stealth puzzle games of all time. Hitman Absolution is a good linear stealth action game, but it isn't like past Hitman games at all. Dead Space 2 is a great action game, paced really well, isn't too long or short. Bully is a shitty game, tons of minigames and the PC version is a terrible port. Alien Isolation is great for the first five hours, okay for the next five hours, and I stopped playing because it was gonna be another 5-10 hours of repetitive bullshit.

Arkham City is a great game, good pacing and stays fresh throughout. Mass Effect 2 is good if you're in the mood for Mass Effect, if you aren't in the mood for corny dialog and a dumb story, skip it for now. Max Payne 3 has some of the best feeling shooting in the genre, also has fantastic physics. But there are forced cutscenes and there's a ton of them, not the best game if you aren't sold on the story or lack patience. You get to shoot a ton of shit, but you also have to watch a ton of shit.

The Metro series is complete garbage, but that may just be me. Xcom is a great game but its a good game to have on the side. I'd personally recommend Fallout New Vegas . Great gameplay freedom, a lot of side content that's fun and isn't obtrusive, the main questlines are variable, fun, and don't take to long to beat.

I like the idea that you can name things other people haven't found/claim them. (Colbert: "MINE! MINE! MINE!") But there's no actual "gameplay" reasons to play beyond "oh explore this universe for... reasons..."

Try saying that on GAF and have your throat jumped down by Sony fans.

I appreciate this post but in regards to Metro and the best PS2 era R* game Bully :ufup

Only played Last Light though, but it was one of the better FPS I've played. I love Bully's setting and soundtrack, but yeah the PC port sucks. Fortunately, there's a fix out there for 60 FPS.

Played Mass Effect back when it came out on 360. Liked it a lot, but I'm thinking I should replay it on PC before starting ME2 so my save carries over.

Is Bioshock 1/2 worth playing? Infinite looked amazing with its art style, and played decent enough. Nothing groundbreaking but I thought it was a competent shooter.

First two Max Payne's too dated or still good? Alan Wake consensus is that the gunplay get's stale?

Max Payne 1 is dated but its a really fun ride nonetheless. The comic book cutscenes still have a bunch of charm and the writing, along with the voice acting, hasn't aged at all.

Max Payne 2 is still a great third person shooter. Really different atmosphere and style compared to Max Payne 1. Max Payne 1 riffs on turn of the century action movie cliches and stories. Max Payne 2 is a straight forward noir story with great atmosphere. Shooting is much improved in Max Payne 2.

Max Payne 3 has the best shooting, great atmosphere, but all the characters besides Max himself are meh, and the plot isn't that great. Max Payne 3 is my favorite out of all three, but they're all worth playing.

Max Payne 1&2 have great pacing and either won't take long to beat, Max Payne 2 is a pretty short game.

Shootdodge and bullet time is utterly worthless in 3. You're better off playing it like a semi-cover shooter than actually a bullet ballet like 1-2.

That ain't true at all. I've played through the game around five or six times, on medium and hard difficulty you can run and gun in a ton of sections of the game. You have to treat bullet time like an actual resource rather than always having it available. Shooting dudes in the body a bunch refills it much faster than headshots.

Case in point, I deleted my save file and started a new playthrough on medium difficulty. I'm on chapter 4, and according to Rockstar Social club stats, I've spent around five minutes in cover. That's around two hours of gameplay and 20 to 30 minutes of cutscenes to reach Chapter 4.

My main advice to Max Payne 3 naysayers is to get good and learn how to balance bullet time and using shootdodge when you're about to run out of bullet time. Max Payne 1&2 allowed for sloppy as fuck play, Max Payne 3 doesn't allow for dumb slip ups.

That ain't true at all.

You're telling me Max hitting something in the middle of his shootdodge, automatically turning OFF Bullettime and being filled with bullets is useful? Really?

You're telling me bullet time lasting no more than 10 seconds on Hard is useful, really?

New York Minute kinda forces you to play without cover, but with no time limit imposed on you, you're better off humping a corner letting bullets wizz past you to build bullet time. Pop bullet time, line up a shot and headshot someone and get back into cover while waiting for bullet time to re-up. (Not to mention that New York Minute on 3 is on Medium, thereby it's EASIER than Hard which you have to wade through to unlock New York Minute in the first place.)

Max Payne 1-2 at least allow you to shootdodge EVERYWHERE and have bullet time still be activated even if you hit a wall, thereby allowing you to have the ability to dodge a hail of bullets and retaliate instead of being shot to death for trying to use that ability.

My sentiment on that isn't the minority, either. A lot of Max Payne 1-2 players hate the bullet time and shoot dodge changes.

Saying bullet time and shootdodging is useless/worthless in Max Payne 3.
 :comeon

Quote

Max Payne 1 came out in 2001/2002, Max Payne 2 came out in 2003. You're telling me Remedy wouldn't want more sophisticated physics for Max if given the chance?

Quote

10 seconds is a short amount of time to get near instant headshots and to evade gunfire?

Quote

Don't jump into walls then and time your shootdodge after running out into the open and using bullet time. Risk and reward, can you take out all the dudes with the amount of bullet time you have combined with how much time you buy with the dive?

Quote
My sentiment on that isn't the minority, either. A lot of Max Payne 1-2 players hate the bullet time and shoot dodge changes.

I've been a fan since the first game came out. Don't really care if I'm in the minority when it comes to Max Payne 3.

I can fully understand Max Payne 3 criticism revolving around its story, storytelling, characters, any of the stuff pertaining to the stylistic elements. But the gameplay complaints are so weird that they're hard to take seriously. You get penalized for diving into a wall like a tard, and that for some reason is surprising?

Why is there fear of experimentation and trial of error, figuring out how to clear a room in seconds is what makes Max Payne 3 great. Figuring out the right method of running and gunning means dying a lot, but so what? There are constant checkpoints.

If you like Hotline Miami, you should give the sequel a try. It's a great game but be warned it is much harder and made some divisive choices in what elements to put forward this time round (a lot more enemies, firearms and use of the look ahead function), you might need a couple hours in to start feeling it proper. You should probably finish the game in normal difficulty in 10 to 15 hours, I suppose.

Laying the pipe down doesn't work half the time.

Half my fucking toilets aren't working because water refuses to flow through the pipes.

It's a feature, not a bug.

Water will not flow, due to low pressure, if you have too many small pipes connected to the same pump. The solution is to use the thicker pipe for the main routes and then smaller pipes to connect all the utilities.

I love Telltale's adventure games, but ever since they screwed me with The Walking Dead save issue, I've made it a point to never buy them until they're finished.

Pretty much, though I jumped on The Wolf Among Us at first and the twists would have been nowhere near as effective in a binge session. Ep1's ending was spectacular since they found a way to fuck with new players and readers of the comic.

The best part of S1 was the main guy and with him dead, it's sort of missing that compelling lead thing.  Clementine was whatever.

Loved season 1, but I got bored around episode 3 of season 2 and just watched the ending on Youtube.

Borderlands and Wolf Among Us are better tbh.
