I'm really thinking hard as to why i shouldn't get a ps4. like i have about 10-15 last gen console games i still wanna play that i already own, so i don't NEED a new system. on the other hand there's a decent deal out now and there prolly won't be a good price drop for awhile. so very very tempting.

Been listening to MGS1 during my commute and MGS1 Snake is by far the best Snake.

That mix of flirt, guilt-riddled survivor, narrow spectrum confidence, being good at getting the shit kicked out of him, and self loathing. Simply Karakandian.

The ball was dropped so hard when MGS4 Snake was just a boring middle aged man in a elderly person's body. MGS1 Snake is seasoned and doesn't paint his actions as heroic. MGS2 Snake finds some hope and purpose in life.

MGS4 Snake should've been a bitter and resentful person who despises that fate that's handed to him. Anger, resentment, pessimism, doubt, those emotions make sense for someone that has constantly been robbed of anything normal.

MGS4 Snake is essentially Danny Glover from Lethal Weapon, that doesn't gel well with his previous characterizations.

watched the sega cd review by avgn and his biases are showing pretty heavily. There's no Lunar or Snatcher, two of the most celebrated Sega CD games, and it focuses heavily on the fmv games despite that not even being the systems most celebrated titles. Then in the 32x one he takes a dump on Virtua Fighter despite the 32x version being a pretty great version of the game. It's even better than the Saturn version.

You can tell full on he's a flat out Nintendo slut.

I obv. haven't finished 4 yet, but so far (and especially after listening to 1) I feel like I've missed playing 3 or 4 games of canon titles after 3, which is kind of true, but not really true.

It's alright if Snake ended up as someone who just doesn't care anymore, but it's just jarring after the character's arc across 1 and 2. (To say nothing of the societal decay between 2 and 4.) Thanks for turning this series into the Saga of Big Boss, Kojifraud. Three mainline games plus portable entries for that douchebag when you've left this mess.

Kingdom Hearts 1 is a charming and simple action RPG where its mostly about going to Disney worlds and stopping that franchise's villain from doing evil things. Combat is simple, satisfying, and has the right amount of challenge. You have to do on rail levels to travel around on the overworld map, they don't taint the experience much but they get old. Great for anyone looking for an action RPG.

Kingdom Hearts 2 is a much less charming and slightly more complicated action RPG with a bunch of confusing weaboo shit mixed in with Disney stuff. More mechanics when it comes to combat, still satisfying and relatively simple. On rails levels are now way better and are fun to play through, they're more optional if I recall correctly. Good game overall, but it definitely lacks charm and is a lot dumber than the first game.

EDIT: The remix versions are the ones you should play. Tons of extra content, shit was revamped/changed/balanced for a better experience.

It's pretty much standalone with different characters, so you don't really need to play the first two.

DQ8 is probably the best choice, so many of the PS2 RPG library tends to be either more challenging and/or more complex mechanics but DQ8 keeps it pretty simple. The mid-game boss is a bit of a difficulty spike though.
