Is this game worth it if you're just interested in the coop aspect? I don't play competitive, but i love tactical shooters (the only FPS genre i really enjoy, tbh) so i've been following this somewhat, and i'm not sure if they removed the campaign it had, or what?

No campaign. The co-op is like some of the stuff in Siege, how many waves you can last against, etc.

They are supposed to be adding more co-op stuff (more modes in general I think), but I don't know what, maybe Nintex can get a hot scoop.

Yes! It's very engaging. I have about 10 hours in-game rn and all I play is co-op so far. I'm sure I'll give comp/pvp a try and enjoy it but I'm mainly here for the gun porn so co-op is filling my needs so far. Because of the high lethality you still have to take the bots seriously. You will lose matches to them in solo and mp. They're not super accurate or anything but it doesn't usually take more than one or two good hits to die or kill in this. You round a corner too fast into say 4 bots, you might get one kill but the rest will drop you for sure.

It's not like siege's t-hunt which is basically a shooting gallery for you to learn how to click heads.

They've been doing 24/7 community livestream if you wanna get a better idea since its the most popular mode:

Awesome, looks a bit darker than the usual Ys, and no sign of Adol. Almost has a Xanadu Next vibe in a way.

Of course half the RE thread about the Ys IX announcement is complaining about some throwaway scene where Adol accidentally runs into Laxia bathing in a spring.

Zero interest in Ys9 after 8 being a 60 hour bloat with a zzz story and the latest cold steel games being 120 hour bloats with zzz story.

Unless Ys9 gets back to tight 20-30 hour game I’m gonna pass. I’m so tired of text, text, text Falcom right now. Ys is supposed to be an action game.

I'm gonna have to give it a shot then.
I'm usually more interested in slower paced tactical shooters, like (pre-Siege)R6, Swat or ArmA, but i'll take anything that sort of scratches that itch, i enjoyed Ghost Recon Wildlands after all.

Some of the videos make it look very fast, run&gun, but the dev walkthrough up thread details a lot of cool sim systems.

Campaign is canned. The plans looked pretty great but they couldn't pull it off. It was shelved because of the response to the trailer they released.
AAA quality for voice work and animations was simply not feasible with their resources. Even now the third person animations are the weakest part of the presentation.

But if you thought the MP was hardcore... man the SP was something else. It would've been a bit like the co-op with some really fucked up (based on truth) stories.
My brother watched footage of Kurdish fighters in Syria to get inspiration for the SP maps and scenario's. Stuff like the suicide bombers they have in co-op is based on that as well.
The plan was to ship the game with a PTSD warning. They have some ex-military guys working there and felt that the material they were working with could actually trigger PTSD.

The roadmap as it stands is more maps throughout 2019, a console release in 2019 and indeed more modes with bots. Last I heard they wanted to make every mode bot compatible.
It kinda depends on how well the game sells going forward. If it remains a big hit as it is now there's no telling where they will take it.
They didn't necessarily just build a stand-alone game but a 'platform' they can expand and build upon with Sandstorm.

Forgot to post this earlier:

Quote
[Ys IX's] story takes place in Baldeuk, northeast of Esteria in the Gria Eldlingen region. A new adventure will unfold in this "prison city" and will revolve around the mystery regarding "Monstrum," people who hold supernatural powers.

The series' familiar action role-playing game mechanics, such as free movement and jumping, and battles against giant bosses, will return for the game. Players will be able to use the "supernatural action" abilities of various Monstrum to explore levels. Players will also be able to conduct "Guild Management" in the prison city.

So I might be able to get my hands on a Fire Emblem Fates LE.
Which has Birthright, Conquest and Revelations on a single cartridge.

Is that game any good? It seemed to have dropped off the radar pretty fast after release (probably because Nintendo cut it in three) but I loved Fire Emblem: Echoes.

You can play much of the game without counters however some bosses are impossible without.
Somewhat of a left over of Other M I guess. Otherwise the handling of Samus feels spot on, more like a walking tank than a ninja.

Maybe :no1curr, but Soulja Boy looks to be getting into hot water for selling game consoles emulator boxes filled with ROMs with his name slapped on them.  He flipped out about it on Twitter.

Quote
Earlier today Soulja Boy took to Twitter to unleash a tirade about Nintendo and haters of his new consoles that included homophobic remarks. But before Nintendo had the chance to fire back with some Ja-Rule level heat, the rapper deleted the tweets. But of course, not before they were screenshotted.

DeAndre 'Soulja Boy' Cortez is an American rapper, producer, actor, and entrepreneur who rose to prominence with 2007's massive hit, Crank That. And recently the 28 year old has been making the headlines in the video game world with the launch of some new consoles (and even the announcement of a new esports organization).

Not long after the consoles went on sale via Soulja Boy's personal website, a report surfaced that revealed Nintendo was unsurprisingly going after the rapper, which was to be expected, after all, Soulja Boy's consoles are blatant knock-offs and the Soulja Boy Mini specifically violates the Trademark Counterfeiting Act, and is likely what got the attention of Nintendo.

That said, Soulja Boy took to twitter to address all of this and more via some now deleted tweets.

"I’m not scared of Nintendo or none of u f***ot nerds making YouTube videos eat a dick and thanks for the free promo," read one tweet.

I really liked Samus returns by the end.

I agree with you on the melee counter, it just feels very “un-Metroid” and as a result I kept forgetting about it.

But I’d stick to it. It’s a good game, and I felt like it had a pretty good level of challenge for a modern game. There were at least 2 bosses that took more than a few tries, but nothing that was so hard it was terribly frustrating.

Only thing is that by the end of the third game it just dragged like a motherfucker. They really are all completely unique campaigns, but it’s just a lot of fire emblem.

Blizzard hasn't been independent since 1994.

Kotick and Brian Kelly owning 48.8% of Activision Blizzard (the rest being public shareholders) is the closest they've come to independence since then.

Anyway, watched the Half Life documentary that recently came out. Interesting overall but I felt like they could've gone a bit more in depth on not just the community but the game itself.

Just Cause 4 apparently has some civil engineering issues to work out:

Steam reviews are awful, game is still crashing constantly for people despite a few patches already. And lots of graphics errors like this I guess.

This whole game didn't sound like it was ready to me over the course of the last few months, and releasing it two weeks before Christmas? They announced it just before E3! They're also developing two 2019 releases in Rage 2 and Generation Zero. They have six projects in development. They just got bought. They just opened a new studio before being bought. And this was supposed to be the showcase of the "next" iteration of their engine.

Like Capcom I think Square Enix wants to cut loose their 'gaijin' games which seemed like a good idea when Japanese games were tanking but which are no longer necessary.

The Tomb Raider trilogy has 'ended', Deus Ex is 'resting' and Just Cause 4 has been messed up.
I think they're working on some sort of Marvel game at Chrystal Dynamics. But overall it seems like Square Enix is refocusing on Japanese development.
This might be it for Just Cause as Avalanche was bought by Nordik Film. Rage 2 and working with Bethesda looks more promising from a sales perspective.

Avalanche says all their expansion is because they're going to produce new IPs and self-publish. Rage 2 is close enough. Generation Zero is their own new FPS IP that they probably want to put "from the creators of RAGE 2 and JUST CAUSE" on.

Also, they make surprisingly decent bank off theHunter series. Or at least they did but looking at how often they still update those they must be continuing to do so. And I think they own all that or most of it. SE doesn't I don't think at least.

Makes sense and Just Cause 4 never had a shot anyway. The only suitable release window would've been a summer 2018 release before Red Dead Redemption 2 which was not in the cards.
So now it's sandwhiched between RDR2/AC:O/COD and the other heavy hitters (no one expected BFV and Fallout76 would flop) and Resident Evil 2 early next year.

I remember Just Cause 2 partly did well because it released early 2010 when there was barely any open world competition.

They announced JC4 around E3 in June, a summer release would have meant a borderline stealth one.

I don't think RE2 is really a competitor, the first six weeks post-Christmas really look better than two weeks before. (Especially going against Insurgency: Sandstorm.)

Though obviously they had to avoid Crackdown 3's "guaranteed date" in mid-Feb. :teehee

They could have done first week of March, there's nothing the week before, or after, and that week only has ToeJam and Earl. I guess that would depend on how much crossover with DMC5 and Division 2 there is. (Or Anthem :teehee)

Is JC4 by the B-team that did JC3 again?

The main team that did JC1/2 which were great did Mad Max and to me it showed even if Mad Max was repetitive as all hell, at least MM was polished and good under the repetition. I wonder if that team moved on to work on Rage 2?

They reorganized and that was part of starting the second Sweden studio. That two-team split setup wasn't working.

I have to imagine Rage 2 has been getting the bulk of their attention for a whole host of reasons.
