Oh, so it comes with both?  Gotcha.  Lol still if it requires both games to be installed at once, and not separately...  why would anyone want both at the same time??  :doge

Games will not be the same size as this generation.... they are likely to grow significantly.
If what they said about no more repeated assets on the drive is true, that may balance things out and keep sizes the same, at least once these cross gen titles fuck off.

Yeah, I keep hearing this as a justification for the PS5 600gigs of storage. Not sure I buy it fully.

Pretty sure you can just install one. 105gb is essentially 2 games. So 2018 is 55gb.

I mean we have some file sizes on this page and 50-60gb sounds pretty normal? Demon Souls isn't cross-gen and has crazy 4k textures on everything.

Yeah the texture assets are a little higher this gen, but fewer repeated assets basically should balance it. I play almost everything on PC on my 1gb SSD and I swear every indie game is like 2gb-19gb and every AAA game is like 50-80gb, so these file sizes look pretty same to me.

Also Astrobot PS5 is 2.4gb install lol

Astrobot VR was like 7-8gb with lower res textures. I get the feeling PS5 one is gonna be a tech demo that's like 1 stage. PSVR also came with an Astrobot tech demo/mini-game for free at launch that was a small 30 min thing. Which is a bummer, but just would mean they're mostly focused on Astrobot 2 and this didn't take away too much development time in the meantime.

I thought I read somewhere it was 24GB... Hope I read that wrong then.  :heh

The more we hear about next-gen the worse it sounds in terms of future proofing.

Ray-tracing implementation is underwhelming on PS5 and not even seen yet for any launch games on Xbox Series X.
Storage gives you space for about 3 - 5 next-gen games and then there's the whole Cross-Gen Series S|X bullshit.
And the one technology that really changes things in terms of performance at high resolutions (DLSS 2.0) is not available.

It sounds like the Wii U all over again. Something to hold you over until the 'real' next-gen arrives when all those games and UE5 are ready by 2022/2023.
Until then it's going to be 30fps / 4k gaming whenever ray-tracing is involved (and that sort of is the selling point).
Who are these clowns kidding with 8k 'ready' ?

calm down

this happens every generation and for most games, things are fine.

Also 50-60gb games on a 660gb drive = 3-4 games wat

Star Wars Squadron.

 :-\

Incredible presentation but it feels like it's missing a layer of depth. The single player mode feels like an extended tutorial explaining all the things you can do, I can't say it was very exciting. The game must be pretty special with a VR helmet and a HOTAS  stick, unfortunately i'm playing this on PS4 and my x52 saitek is not supported on the ps4, only PC  :-X The FOV seems pretty wack on the ps4 version, I miss playing simulators on my 21:9 monitor. It makes you feel like you're trapped and it sucks. I don't think there's a way to look around on the console version.

Controls are fine but you do feel handicapped when playing online against pc users.

The gameplay itself feels very.. Basic. It works but once you get past the presentation you're kinda left wanting more. I was really into XvsT, Wing Commanders and those type of games back in the nineties, I'm starting to wonder if those games were truely as immersive and deep as I felt they were when I was a teenager. The interactions with your co-pilot is, once again, very basic. The rebel squad mates are SUPER BLAND, one of them look like a fried fish, I legit restarted the game when I saw it, thinking there was a texture bug. They basically have no real personality, and keep saying similar quips over and over again.

The Imperial side has edgelords but I gotta say I like Zheng, or whatever his name is, the dude who can't remove his helmet because he broke his neck too many times and now he's all cybered-up.

The missions are endlessly the same. Go somewhere, DEFEND SOME SHIP, fight a couple of waves of enemies, DEFEND SOME IMPORTANT SHIP, and so on. One thing I don't like is how Star Destroyers are super easy to defeat because they have an idiotic weakpoint. I mean seriously..  I know it's a videogame but the way it happens in the game, you'd think 4 x-wings could disable an entire armada of Star Destroyers in a couple of minutes. The Empire side has better missions, i really enjoyed that one mission where you start scanning civilian ships around a space station, and you get to hear the the complains from civilian captains begging for mercy because they don't want any trouble   :lol, it just feels better written.

The interactions between missions are legit 1993 space sim grade, you don't move and teleport to a room or a conversation by clicking on objects or people. It's pretty obvious that this was made with VR in mind.

i've played a few rounds online, it's fun but maybe I only played team deathmatch modes. You gain money and exp and you can unlock new weapons for your ships, new paintjobs, new outfits. It's neat but I don't know if there's enough longevity. From what I understand there are some kind of mission modes where you escorts A.I controlled spaceships and you must defend them against other players but I havent tried them yet.

I'm tired of typing now so i'll end this right away: nice game, but wait for a good rebate.

If you are playing with VR, this might be worth it at full price.

I agree with that assessment. I was pretty hyped on it when I started, but the more I play it the more ehhhhhhh I got on it.

I think it would be better with a real stick, but the missions sort of straddle the line between arcadey and sim in a way that's not really very satisfying.

Also, just in a general sense, Star Wars stories ever since Disney has taken over have gotten really bland. It's like they are so afraid of running afoul of the "movie lore" (which is frankly almost non-existent anyway) that nothing really can ever happen. In Tie Fighter and X wing they'd just throw Darth vader or Luke Skywalker into a mission for fun, damn the lore implications.

I don't even bother talking to the pilots inbetween missions because they don't really have anything to say.

edit: it might be kind of fun if we played as a group in multiplayer.

i didn't realise squadrons was cross play ha. idk, the gameplay has a lot of depth imo, but it is very old school in it's design. there's a hollywood gaming sheen, but beneath it's just a very solid space shooter. no mtx and it's already a half price title so idk, seems fine to me for something that nails the fundamentals and has good multi.

:lol

Seems like Ancel didn't have a change of heart so much, leaving the industry, as he lead his stupidly big projects into development hell worse than even vaporware memes would suggest.  :-\ :kobeyuck :goty

https://twitter.com/ethangach/status/1309530351916797954

Not gonna lie... still bummed about the projects dead and not interested in what comes of them without him (or new Rayman games if they were ever made again)  :doge
Well, this is saddening. The tech they were showing off, its scalability and smoothness, were great. It was completely unclear how they planned to move from what they had to anything resembling gameplay. It might've been an interesting mix with something procedural, but Ancel's work tends toward the handcrafted, and procedural content is a can of worms when not systemically consistent.

GameCube  :preach
There's probably no way they can get the rights, but the WWF/WWE WrestleMania and Day of Reckoning games were largely overlooked at the time, because GameCube was an unappreciated system. There were 4 employees from AKI driving that Yuke's effort, and the No Mercy DNA shows up all over the place.

You know most kids these days have a laptop they bring to school and do their homework on

Lie in bed watching netflix in the evening and play vidya on it like roblox and minecraft

if you want to buy them a pc be my guest but its not the best option for schoolwork

Source I work at a company that sells/loans out laptops to students

Also lmao at comparing GTA III to current GTA where they torture people and go American History X on fools.

Yeah exactly the same shit as GTA III 😂

Yes, non-sarcastic, but agreeing.

GTA III is a cartoon. The characters are all clearly cartoons, over the top depictions, and also designed by comic book artist Brian Wood. Smashing into a pedestrian sends them pinwheeling into the air and, when they land on the pavement, they are quickly replaced off-camera by a chalk outline.  In contrast, from GTA IV onward, hitting a pedestrian with your car drops their weighty ragdoll into a complex and grotesque physics simulation, smearing blood across the fender of your car. The first time I did it, I literally started mouthing apologies. I was aghast.

As you point out, the graphic depiction has only become more intense and interactive, with torture scenes as required play mechanics for the main GTA V story. Is it thought provoking, or just sensationalistic? I don't know, but I do think it's inappropriate for younger players.

I feel like they had this model more or less with the Game Boy. They released new Game Boy hardware on the regular and kept backwards compatibly in.
As opposed to their consoles which was always hitting a reset button.

Holy shit, when they say "micro," they mean MICRO.  My newborn's hands are about the right size for this thing.  :lol  It's way too small.

Build quality is cheap.  Feels cheap.  Controls feel loose and kinda crappy.  The speaker is just OK.  The screen is actually pretty good and you can easily read the menu text, but when you start a game, it's just way too small to really enjoy- definitely a novelty toy item more than a classic game machine.

I checked out Sonic 1 and it felt like it was sub-30 FPS.  Not smooth at all.  I don't recall the original playing like that.  Puyo Puyo ran fine, but the blobs are so tiny that it's hard to see what the hell is going on, lol.

https://www.siliconera.com/sega-talks-about-future-mini-consoles-after-game-gear-micro/

"For the next Mini, we are considering everything that has been imagined by everyone.”
“Of course, it doesn’t mean we can realize all of them. We are also thinking about projects that nobody has imagined.”
“The projects are moved by a substantial amount of money, so we’re working first on the one that, realistically speaking, has the highest possibility.”
“The Game Gear Micro is only sold domestically in Japan. When we do the next one, I feel like the project scope will be much bigger as we gaze upon the world. So we won’t be able to release it at this time the next year or two years after the Mega Drive Mini. We can’t make it that quickly. (laughs)”
“I think for the next one, we may go with a concept close to the Mega Drive Mini. If I have to say some names, it could be an SG-1000 Mini or a Dreamcast Mini…”

I think EA moved most of the staff to ghost games to do need for speed (which worked out well :girlaff)

There was some video of a new criterion racing game at an e3 about 5 years ago when ea had nothing to show besides their usual sports games, so they showed a lot of early concept shit instead, I’m guessing that criterion game barely got past that early concept stage if at all. It was around this time I saw or heard someone say that they’re barely even a real studio now iirc.

Tbf ea have moved need for speed back to them so they must be staffed up again (probably with most of the same crew who have done such a mediocre job with the series this gen).

I wanna say what was left of criterion at one point was a support studio for battlefield (like how neversoft ended up being cucked into a call of duty support dev).

I'm annoyed this and Burnout Paradise got "remastered" instead of us getting a new racer from Criterion.

Did they forget to put the HD footage in the trailer? Because it looks like shit.

Stillthe best nfs game in years

It looks like an uprezzed mid gen 360 game, was you seriously expecting ea to give whoever is doing it the time and budget for anything more :girlaff

Tragic. I guess Forza Horizon and indie games are really all we have left when it comes to good arcade racers. I played the shit out of the original Hot Pursuit, but I'm not paying for this lazy remaster unless it drops to $5 like Paradise did.

The Hot Pursuit remaster probably started a switch project and then they decided to bring it to other systems too.

Forza Horizon is so good... How is everyone else so bad at ripping it off? I really don’t get it. Need for speed has sucked for like a decade. The Crew is even worse. Sony doesn’t even try, neither does codemasters.  I just want another good open world racer.
