NVIDIA has updated DLSS again with an Ultimate Performance mode and the results are insane.
Originally created for 4k -> 8k or 1080p -> 8k upscaling, someone put it to use at lower resolutions.

240p -> DLSS 720p (artifacts/shimmering)
360p -> DLSS 1080p (good enough for handhelds)
480p -> DLSS 1440p
720p -> DLSS 4k

You can also do supersampling to replace AA.
(i.e. 1440p -> DLSS 4k ->1440p)

lf to seeing the performance of taa upscaling algorithms like sony's checkerboard running on better hardware and what's going to happen with rdna 2. it's going to be using lower precision operations for upscaling ML stuff vs dedicated tensor cores but im assuming ms/sony implementations on their hardware will ultimately achieve p similar results.

I mean, going from that video I wouldn't use this as like he says it basically makes everything look like FXAA blurry. But regular DLSS is great and I'm 100% on board. It's crazy the difference in FPS playing Control on a 2080ti at 1440p with RTX on and DLSS on/off. DLSS on is super smooth, DLSS off is <30fps and doesn't really look any different.

I do worry stuff like in this video is going to be start being used a lot in consoles to hit 4k resolutions/60fps, which will make everything look FXAA blurry -_-

I used DLSS in Control and it had sharper edges and better hair rendering than native 4k

I tried out DLSS in Control when playing on my small GPD Win Max laptop and it was amazing- the game was running at a rock-solid 30 FPS and looked good.  Definitely something I'd like to see used for handheld gaming systems going forward.  Hope the rumors of an upgraded Switch using this are true.

Yeah, I'd say Superhot VR is one of the absolute best VR games. Unfortunately everything else besides Half-Life Alyx, Beat Saber, Astrobot is gonna be downhill from there.

Also is batshit crazy that the Superhot devs aren't making a Superhot VR2 considering what an 10/10 VR game it is and that it's like 2 hours long and could use a ton more content.

Those songs are absolutely perfect for Beat Saber.

Other than that I had a great time with:
- Half Life Alyx (the best VR thing ever)
- Pistol Whip (aka John Wick simulator)
- Pixel Ripped 1989
- Tetris Effect

I've yet to try Rez which I got during a sale and I always hear good things about Lone Echo and Stormland. I'm also curious about the new Star Wars game and will probably pick that up after a few patches.
Still some lesser games are also fun in terms of experimentation and mods and everything. The exciting new stuff, both the good the bad and ugly is really happening in VR.
So if you feel burned out by todays AAA+ market, VR brings that excitement of early PC/console gaming again.

I’ve only played the demo for Beat Saber but that is also insanely fun. I’ll buy that for sure. I’ve downloaded Alyx. But I need to make some changes to my home network setup in order to do Virtual Desktop wirelessly and play it.

Good to hear since Pistol Whip and Tetris Effect are on my list! And yeah I agree about the excitement. I got both the PS5 and XSX, but I’m honestly not sure why. THPS and FF7 are pretty much the only games I’ve played this year before the Quest 2 came into my life. And I only played those when I was bored and didn’t have much else to do.

How's the Oculus Quest 2 as a PCVR?

I haven’t personally had a chance to try it and I’d have no real comparison since it’s my first VR headset. Folks on reddit and Resetera have lots of positive things to say though. The best part is that you can do it wirelessly. I probably wouldn’t bother if I had to use a cable since that’s why I’ve avoided VR for so long anyways.

I am pretty ignorant about this stuff. I don’t even know FB profiles could have a bad standing. I hardly use my FB and haven’t been someone concerned with data.

And either way I’m only interested in Quest 2 as a way to play Half Life.

It's RTS but one thing it does share with Civ is that you can play a sandbox mode where you build your empire up through the... ages... from a few settlers and workers. It also has win conditions that are not "destroy everyone else."

Im talking more about how the game controls and the overall feel of it I dunno how I should explain it best. I just feel like even the act of walking around, talking to people, shooting and melee in Fallout 4 is incredibly janky.
