Take-Two bought Zynga for almost $13 billion, largest acquisition in gaming history: https://www.businesswire.com/news/home/20220110005389/en/

Have some corporate gibberish:
Quote
Take-Two has also identified over $500 million of incremental annual Net Bookings opportunities to unlock over time, driven by:

Creation of new mobile games for many of the iconic franchises within Take-Two’s portfolio of intellectual property. Take-Two has an extensive catalog of commercially and critically successful console and PC titles with engaged and loyal communities of players, and there is a meaningful opportunity to create mobile games and new cross-platform experiences for many of these properties. Zynga’s nearly 3,000 employees include highly-talented mobile developers, paving the way for Take-Two to accelerate this strategic initiative and introduce its iconic intellectual properties across the fastest-growing platform in the industry.

Ability to optimize RCS by leveraging the collective knowledge across both companies. Both Take-Two and Zynga have extensive capabilities to engage players through live operations (“LiveOps”) and RCS initiatives. By combining resources and proven acumen, the teams at Take-Two and Zynga will deploy best-in-class practices throughout the organization to enhance and grow existing titles across the portfolio. Key opportunities include cross-marketing through a larger, shared customer database and improving game economies through more effective data analytics and machine learning models.

Other strategic benefits include the use of Zynga’s Chartboost advertising platform, which will improve new user acquisition through better audience targeting and optimize mobile advertising inventory to achieve greater yields; geographic expansion into growth markets across Asia, including India, and the Middle East, among other regions; and an enhanced focus on technological innovation and new business models that will utilize the collective knowledge of forward-thinking talent.

How did Take Two manage to come up with that kind of money? They're a big company, but not that big [and arguably Zynga is a bigger company].

I actually didn't know Zynga was still all that huge, especially after their late 2000s, early 2010s heyday (when everyone, even mobile-hatin' me were playing Draw Something, Words with Friends, and Farmville)

I work in brokerage and they're estimated to be worth around $18-20 billion.  Their stock has gone up a lot in the past couple of years, combined with record profits, like they made nearly a billion in Q1 of last year.

Yeah, PC Game Boxes were fucking terrible in a lack of uniformity combined with the GIANT CARDBOARD.

I owned a bunch of PC games growing up but all the boxes got tossed because just too much of a pain in the ass to keep somewhere in good condition. Still have my Saturn/PS1/PS2 etc...  games in good condition but anything that was cardboard like NES/SNES/PC got trashed and I just have carts/discs around somewhere. PC boxes were definitely the worst though. Fucking angles man.

I loved the boxes (yes even the weirdly shaped ones), and the manuals and quick reference cards but yeah the logistics of storing your collection the paper cd cases and environmental harm/waste it causes snaps me out of my momentary nostalgia.

Man, ALL the shit about transferring NFT items across games was such unimaginable snake oil. I wonder if anyone who proposed it has even met a game developer.

My brother told me NFT's is now a topic of hot debate among developers, some hate it but others see opportunity but publishers have definitely asked their teams to come up with new NFT concepts.
It really depends on if someone finds a way to implement it beyond gacha type gameplay.

In general though nearly all developers agree that as long as paid content is 'just cosmetics' and it doesn't affect the gameplay it shouldn't be a problem.

Man, ALL the shit about transferring NFT items across games was such unimaginable snake oil. I wonder if anyone who proposed it has even met a game developer.
Rare played around with that during the N64 days and before that you had the Sonic lock-on games. But it's difficult to pull off as the content still needs to be implemented in both games.
With Unreal Engine 5 they might come up with something to make that easier. In reality though there's not much benefit in changing the current DLC methods (Amiibo, paid DLC add-ons etc.) with NFT's.

I do see uses for user generated content. For example Forza Liveries that you can use in both Forza Horizon 5 and Forza 8 or transfering Pokemon collections.
A universal standard for things that can be exchanged across games is helpful but that can also be accomplished without NFT's.

The reality is that on the current course Square Enix will just sell a 'unique' Battle Damaged Sephiroth for $5000 that only one player can own.

This tweet really proves how they can't clearly, and simply explain what an NFT even is.
Obviously you don't own Troy Baker's voice, nor any sort of rights to it.
At best you "own" an (not "the"!) abstract concept of Troy Baker's voice, with a freshly minted serial number attached to it.  :lol

But of course in abstract concepts, you can already close your eyes and claim everything you can dream of, in much the same way.
So really, what you're buying is only the serial number.

People would be much less annoyed by NFTs if they were framed for the speculative tool they are, instead of trying to nobilitate them with this level of used-car salesman bullshit.
Crypto had been around for years after all, and was much less vilified, despite having the same environmental impact.

The problem with NFT's that unlike with crypto where the actual 'bitcoin' is stored in most case with NFT's only a hash is stored that points to a URL.
And even though the hash can exist forever the URL won't.

The bois are basically exchanging hyperlinks for billions of dollars.

I haven't delved into NFT's deep enough to figure out if they actually use Base64 code for the images (which could in theory be stored 'forever' in the blockchain) instead of just hosting a jpg but I suppose I already know the answer.

Some games also have either Xbox One X patches or FPS boost.

Red Dead Redemption has a 4K patch.
Binary Domain got FPS boost.
Fable Anniversary has a 4K patch and FPS boost.
Fable III got FPS boost.
All the Gears games got FPS boost. Gears 2 and 3 also got a 4K patch.
GTA 4 now runs at 60fps on Xbox Series X cause it had an unlocked framerate.
Skate 3 had a 4K patch.
Sonic All-Star Racing Transformed has FPS boost.
Sonic Generations has both a 4K patch and FPS boost.
Sonic Unleashed has FPS boost.

All original Xbox games get a 16x resolution increase. (Or a 4x increase on Xbox One and S.)

I think this game looks great and every time they show it looks like a real tangible game(thanks to some clear framerate issues). I also like how while yes it still looks a little too pretty it has some grit that a lot of Korean games seem to lack.

Hopefully its good but between this, DokeV, Project Eve, and small stuff like Ultra Age, I'm intrigued by those more single player focused Korean games.

I wonder if this is the Witcher effect? I feel the Witcher and CPRR's success has really been a symbol and guide for international developers. I feel like were seeing more ambitious projects and money thrown at them from corners of the world not known for making open-world rpgs or single player focused big games.

STRANGER OF PARADISE FINAL FANTASY ORIGIN | Final Trailer

 :ohhh

I haven't watched it yet. But the fact that the trailer is age-gated, already makes this the best FF content in ages.

I've missed 90's edge.

Stranger of Paradise's nuttiness is all its own, though, and is pushed to the max in the latest trailer that's just been put out ahead of the game's March 18th release date. A mad, sprawling thing that culminates in Frank Sinatra's My Way, it's perhaps the most promising look yet at this unhinged and novel spin-off.

Also an interview dropped on Eurogamer:
