I don't know about the 360 ones but I played a lot of Naruto Ultimate Ninja Storm which is pretty much the same (but quite a lot better from what I've heard) and that game f'in ruled. Also, NUNS2 is being released on 360 and PS3 :rock
The two Ubisoft-developed Naruto games are apparently entirely different than the PS3 fighting games. Oddly enough I was just thinking about them yesterday, because they're good examples of genre mixing. They've got the platforming stuff, running around town and outlying areas, foot racing, collecting coins to buy improved jutsu and equipment, and then at scripted spots Naruto is thrown into fights against other characters or their minions. The arenas are are just open flat spaces with set dressing themed identically to the game's current location. The fighting is pretty cool; trigger modifier plus thumbstick movement casts jutsu, but you have to strike to create openings to perform jutsu. I had a blast.

Looking at some vids the Ubi ones do look really different. As I said I never played the 360 games, just NUNS. Guess I just assumed they were fairly similar. Definitely a fun game, I'm hoping NUNS2 has a good online component.

edit: apparently it does  :D

NUNS2 seems to be adding a lot.  Story mode is supposed to be different (enough with the scrolls  >:( ) and what they've shown are 3D characters running through 2D backgrounds like PS1 RPG in a higher resolution.  Plus there are three story modes (one Naruto, one Sasuke, one ???).

Glory of Heracles is $10.99 at amazon with a $10 video game credit + $5 mp3 credit.  So even if you aren't going to use the mp3 credit, it's like the game is 99 cents assuming you will use the game credit.

I heard they improved the US version a lot and made it at least a playable rpg.

I use up the amazon credits left & right, so I double dipped on this game.  Like I just pre-ordered Crackdown 2 yesterday using my Mario Galaxy 2 and another credit, so it was $30 w/$10 credit yay.

Got the Japanese version of Heracles in the bargain bin for $8, getting the US one for $1 and $5 of mp3s.  Can't complain.

on the 360? if you want mascot platformers, there are the two Naruto games.  They're half platformers, half fighting games.

theres the Banjo games on XBLA too, but yeah as far as 3d platformers go Xbox is pretty dead.

Uh, Outrun is literally 10x harder to 200/200 than ABC and VOOT.

You have to complete 50 single player games which takes a lot of time, and AAA on Heart Attack, and the Time Trials are pretty tough. I hope to 200 Outrun someday.

Tomb Raider games have become more action/adventure, and when you aren't badly shooting things, the genre the TR games best fit is "puzzle". Not to mention, I've played/beat all three of them already, with sleep-inducing ease I might add.

Kameo isn't a platformer, it's an action game. And Sonic...:lol

I can't believe people actually play CoD on veteran for any reason besides achievements.  Does crawling slowly through an entire game while being constantly killed by grenade spam and bullets out of nowhere make CoD more fun?

I think CoD works best when you run through it and don't worry about dying.  It's supposed to be a ride afterall.  Sit back and enjoy the scripted events.

He says it is going ok but he says he dies a lot because the controls are imprecise.  He says he knows what he wants to do but the controls just doesn't do what he wants them to do at the time he wants them to do it.  And when he's not dying because of the controls it's the camera that sucks or his wii just hates him.  In conclusion he wishes that SMG2 was a turn based JRPG because those games are more his speed.

First info and screens of the Armin Wii game:

In the Mix: Featuring Armin van Buuren

The game starts by choosing the city that will be your home base. As a starting DJ you will play what is still a simple set in a few underground clubs in your home city. If you do your work well, a talent scout will introduce you to some larger clubs in the local circuit. The stepping-stone to your international breakthrough will be a deal with a successful record label and your contacts with influential people.

For your gigs at parties and in clubs you will get money as well as points. You can use the money to buy new equipment in the DJ Store, such as CDJs, mixers and sound effect equipment. Each investment represents a unique step forward in your career. If you opt for a better mixer, for example, you will have more channels available for mixing; good headphones will help you beat-match numbers. The higher up the career ladder you climb, the more demanding your work environment will become. You will repeatedly have to get the audience swinging, and not just by means of music: you must also use your poses and gestures to build up a scintillating atmosphere among the audience.

The career mode gradually introduces you to all elements of the work of a DJ. The many technical secrets of the job are unveiled in a way that everybody can understand and are used in the game. The career mode of IN THE MIX: Featuring Armin van Buuren genuinely gives you the feeling of being able to grow from a starting DJ into an international superstar, and who better than Armin van Buuren to show you the way?

Looks pretty bad, which is par for the course. An extremely overrated and crappy DJ on an extremely overrated and crappy console.

So now after Kotor, Mass Effect, Fallout 3, Alpha Protocol....what's up with the comeback of the wrpg as a dumbed down easy genre where you take an overpowered character and destroy everything in your way?  What happened to wrpgs that were hard as nails and required good strategy?  Aren't wrpg developers sad that they are making games that are pretty and have rpg elements but the gameplay is basically "YOU WIN" button?  These games have good gameplay systems, but they're all easy and as your character levels up they just get more and more easy until they are a joke.  Is this all just to appeal to J6P who plays Halo and never heard of wrpgs before Kotor?  :maf

All of those games (haven't played Alpha Protocol) have crap sub sytems and combat engines though. Out of that list, only Mass Effect 2 has good combat and it's hardly what I'd constitute as being an rpg.

I play wrpgs for adventure and exploration and questing these days. Expecting any form of difficulty curve or deep combat systems is a fool's errand.

Playing Dragon Age on hard mode was the first time I've been satisfied with the overall mechanics, combat system and difficulty curve with a wrpg in years.

Agreed, but I dunno if Halo is a good example of pussified gaming. Sure, thanks to XBL it ushered in an entire generation of puerile loudmouths, but any Halo campaign is plenty difficult on Legendary. Plus, multiplayer tends to beget an appreciation for competition

so apparently in the new fire emblem remake you won't play as marth but instead as a character done by you... this wouldn't be much news if it wasn't for the fact that this is the first time fire emblem pulls off character creation

in other news an action game for the wii called earth seeker by a studio made by ex-capcom guys (tough i seems to understand one of the two worked on devil may cry 2 :lol) has been announced

Once you level up in Dragon Age that game becomes much easier. And Dragon Age Awakening is probably the easiest game I've played in years.

The reality is that normal people simply don't like extremely tough games and developers know this and tune accordingly.

I'm personally more concerned about "good" games rather than "tough" games in a relative sense.

Um this has been annoying me lately.  Why is Blizzard dumbing down everything in their games?  First it was WoW, then they are removing skill trees in Diablo 3.  What was awesome about diablo 2 was the synergy of the skill trees, removing them will be kinda awful to me.
