The only potential bad news about this is who's going to replace him. Jun Takeuchi could wind up being even worse.

Blue Castle can build a Dead Rising game with or without him at this point.

But will Capcom want them to? Seemed to me like Inafune was the one who was very pro-western development, so I wonder if now that he's gone, they'll stop being some pro-western if their efforts don't meet expectations.
Yeah, who knows? They were burned pretty badly by the 3D remake of Bionic Commando, and wasn't there one other western-dev game which failed? Then Blue Castle knocked one out of the park.

Ummm, I'm pretty sure Blue Castle will keep making DR games.  They only shipped 2 million copies and got great reviews + Capcom bought them.  If they don't have them making DR3 what else are they going to do?  Have them make Strider?

Yea that other game was Dark Void.

DR2 seems to have done well with itself so i can see that team hanging around some more.

N1 would probably be making H-games if they could sell them on console. Disgaea 4 is looking good though.

I just saw this on system11 too. Cave streamed a show on ustream earlier, where they announced some of their future plans:

http://gamenyarth.blog67.fc2.com/blog-entry-8180.html
- new ESP Ra.De title in plans
- STG collaboration with other companies (?)
- adventure game that Cave is making now will be filled with mini-games, again in colaborations with other companies
- 2d action title in plans too
- ESPRade/Guwange material collection book in works
- Asada wants copyright rights for Bombuzal

Good news all around. I wonder how their 2D action game will turn out. Too bad it'll probably be for XBLA or something.

Harmonix's hope that low sales of Guitar Hero: Warriors of Rock were caused by anticipation surrounding Rock Band 3 have been dashed this morning by official UK sales figures.

According to UKIE, Rock Band 3 sold just 7386 units for the week ending 30th October. That breaks down into 5318 Xbox 360 copies, 1555 PS3 copies and 295 Wii copies.

As a result, Harmonix's tour de force spent a debut week at 26th in the UK all-formats top 40. Rival Guitar Hero: Warriors of Rock finished one place below in 27th.

But Activision's game had a much better start, entering the chart in sixth before going on to place 14th, 22nd and 21st in subsequent weeks. In the US, first-week GH:WOR sales were reported to be 86,000.

On Friday Harmonix told Eurogamer "the early read" was that people were "waiting for our game [Rock Band 3]", which was perhaps why GH:WOR struggled to penetrate the market in a way the series once could.

"I'm not an analyst," RB3 project director Daniel Sussman added. "I know that as a game player I'm the type of gamer that would wait and spend my money on Rock Band 3.

"It's possible that sales of other games in the category are down because people are waiting to spend their money on Rock Band 3. That's what I hope anyway!"

Judging by UK the performance of Rock Band 3, Guitar Hero: Warriors of Rock and DJ Hero 2, the writing appears to be on the wall for the once prosperous music genre. Certainly we're a long way from 2008, a year in which Guitar Hero III managed to shift 3.5 million copies in two months.

The declaration by Harmonix boss Alex Rigopulos earlier this year that "I absolutely do not believe that rhythm-action gaming has reached its peak" may come back to haunt him.

 :lol

I shouldn't laugh because its a bit sad whenever a genre is in decline and people are going to lose their job but still. I was always honestly baffled that this genre even got as big as it did for a bit.

While I can certainly appreciate it from a hardcore gamers point of view, Rock Band 3 trying to appeal to the very hardest of the hardcore by focusing most of their press coverage on that pro mode has to be one of the biggest marketing blunders of all time. What percentage of consumers are really into playing real instruments on their videogame consoles.

I mean its neat and all. And I wish them well and I think they are good developers but you would have to be blind not to see this is the wrong way to broaden the appeal of a genre in decline.

Maybe this means I can get another Amplitude or Frequency though.

And no, Stoney, you will not get another Frequency/Amplitude.  You will get Dance Central 2 instead.

Well I think money wise that's probably for the best at least in the sense that that fad hasn't yet popped yet. But since I'd never buy Kinect I'll miss out on that series.

The pro mode was always going to be niche.  The games serve as an instant gratification for pretending to be a rock star.  Only a handful of people are going to dedicate the time to actually learn an instrument.

The keyboard was going to be the new thing that reeled back in casuals, but they obviously don't give a shit any more.

I think its neat from a gamers like us perspective. The very hardcore. But its just way too niche for the general public. It's like advertising that your new game is the most realistic gun game or something like Arma. I mean that appeals to a certain hardcore niche but regular people just don't care. If they haven't learned to play guitar yet, they certainly aren't going to pick up this game to try to learn it. It's almost like an educational tool or something. I almost think they would have been better off if they tried to sell it to schools or something.

That sucks, I really never saw GH or RB as an instant-gratification rock star arcade. It like, got me into classic rock music. Since day 1 it's been an educational game on some level. Stupid casuals :-\

He sort of nails it. The whole thing just became very insider-ish. Casuals are the reason the genre blew up but the stuff they were adding wasn't going to keep them. Perhaps it was inevitable.

For what its worth I bought the original Guitar Hero day one on the PS 2. I always sucked at the game but I thought it was neat and interesting. I never bought any of the other ones in either series because I realized that scratch for me had been itched so I was bit surprised when the whole thing suddenly got really hot.

But then like I said, I'm more of an amplitude or frequency guy. And I never liked buying or using those peripherals.

I got GH1 before I had a 360, played the shit out of it, then I got GH2 for 360, and after finishing that game, I was more or less done. GH2 is still the best peripheral-based rhythm game imo.

Plastic toy instrument games were a fad that peaked 2-3 years ago.  It's not a big deal as these things happen.

It's why I was one of the few that was fine with the milking of the franchises: regardless of how you space them out, the fad had a short timeframe.  Might as well make as much money as you can and then bow out when the craze ended.

I like that RB3 is more or less made to cater to the people that are still playing it.  Even if you ignore all the "pro" stuff, which is still something a niche group is into, the interface and everything is easier to be pick up and play.  I think one of the old Guitar Hero games did something similar but I haven't played a Guitar Hero since 3.

What annoyed me about the entire period of these mock performance games is that other types of rhythm games kinda died out.  Inis went from Gitaroo Man (:bow2) to the Oudenan/EBA games to a Singstar/Karaoke game for the Xbox 360  :'(

And INiS quality control, even bolstered by the legions of QA freaks at Microsoft, were unable to detect that their server structure was complete dreck, goes down faster than a 2nd year crack whore, and completely waylays their own save/load flow into la-la-land whenever it does. INiS should have stuck with making quirky DS titles. Nintendo probably would have adopted them into 2nd party in short order.

I've got a love/hate relationship with LIPS. Well, more like a love/hate+hate proportioned thing.

And they are STILL churning out god damn Lips games. Why the fuck did they need INIS to make some Sing Star clone? MS can never be redeemed for this.

It would be nice if Konami made a Beatmania IIDX game for PS360 though. I'd buy dat.
