:lol Edge is such a crap magazine and I'm convinced that most of their fans are complete sheep (not directed at anyone here). They try so hard to be "above" the likes of IGN, but in reality they are no different. Every review I've read from them has been awful (eg. Sin & Punishment 2, MvC3).

It just irks me that catch-all gaming forums place all of their stock in Edge and dismiss other mainstream publications.

Best looking game of 2011 :bow

Can't wait to buy it.

That's awesome. But there's too much action in it. Was hoping it to be an adventure. Looks more like a DMC thing.

Outside of the ability to do a rolling dodge and some controls tweaked for controller, the gameplay looks pretty much similar to Dungeon Siege 2.

You could probably say the same thing about DA2 compared to DAO. Funny how people can be outraged for one, and completely nonchalant about the other.

I remember now why I don't use netflix on my PS3.

Turn on, try to launch app.  NO YOU GOTTA UPDATE PS3 FIRST.  ok, ~10 minutes.
System restarts, try to launch app.  NO YOU GOTTA UPDATE THE APP FIRST.  ok, ~2 minutes.
Try to launch app again.  NO THIS NEW UPDATE ISN'T VERIFIED BECAUSE IT'S NEW; BACK TO PC AND VERIFY IT.

ah fuck you I'll just output my PC video to my TV

i played 3,i really loved the spritework (like seriously it's the most kickass sprite work i have ever seen in an rpg) but i remember the rest of the game being somewhat flat...

i think i stopped playing quite close to a minigame where you have to make sushi or something like that...

5 was awfull,an entire game working to piss off the player...

1) the latest game to require the incredible resident evil technology of "needs an item to save" having a limited number of saves it's incredibly stupid especially when i have to lug around an item when....

2) i have an incredibly limited inventory space, why? where they scared i could broke the game by carring 3 unidentified useless items instead of 2? this is even more frustating when later on you do get more inventory space, why not have the player start with all of it?

3) it takes forever to reach a save point, like it takes at least 45 minutes of game to reach the next one,you have already placed a limitation on save with those stupid save token so why you needed to put another one by making save point so rare? oh oh and here's a kicker,i know that you can quick save the game but in the PAL version of the game YOU CAN'T! ISN'T THAT THE BEST THING EVER? AND THEY TRY TO MAKE UP FOR IT BY GIVING MORE SAVE TOKEN TO TRULY SHOW HOW DEEP THEIR HEAD IS UP IN THEIR ASS!

4) i don't care how big the time limit is,having one is stupidstupidstupid,i take my sweet time when playing rpg and knowing that heading down an hallway cost me precioussssssssss D-Ratio is infuriating

5) their solution? HAVE THE PLAYER RESTART THE GAME AND THROW SOME EXTRA CUTSCENE AS A BONE,DUDE WE ARE A GENIUS! this is even more excruciating when you know they did that because the whole game is piss short

6) and before you tell me how awesome combat is,don't.... by all mean maybe it gets better later on but up where i played, nina places a trap, the enemy steps on it,lin push the enemy away and the process repeat over and over until the enemy is dead

a game so obtuse you think kawazu had his hand on it

diunx as i said the NTSC game version of the game does feature a quick save feature that let you turn off the game whenever you want so there is that

i should also maybe elaborate a little more on the D-Ratio,basicaly you have a god mode button but everytime you push off this button, you increase your D-Ratio,when you reach a D-Ratio of 100% it's instant game over, the D-Ratio also increase while doing other stuff like walking and fighting, but it increase in really small increment (like 0,01 for every turn you spend in battle) still it's a quite arbitrary limit and as i said if you break it there is nothing else to do than restart the game

each time you restart the game, you do keep your loot, skills and some experience so there is also that but still it's so :yuck

dude you're my bro, BoF 5 is one of the most infuriating games I've ever played. Everything you wrote is spot on. I remember having so much difficulty reaching save points and kept dying or got stressed out that a strong enemy would approach me because I didn't have much health left anymore and I was out of healing items which happened oh so much. And that limited inventory slots was outrageous, it was like 10 things max or something? Holy shit.

You'll notice that it's mostly people who don't like or haven't played the previous BoF's (3 and 4 in particular) who love that PIECE OF SHIT game the most. Having said that I can't understand people who don't like BoF3 and 4. They're like the perfect classic jrpgs, especially 3. The game is stuffed with fun stuff to do, the music rules, the battle system kicks ass, you got minigames all over the place and it's fun to explore towns and dungeons. You simply don't like jrpgs if you hate this game :/

BOF3 is fucking sick, although it's a bit heavy on the fetchquesting and has some infuriating parts (the desert and getting cooking supplies for the mayor)... how could one hate a game where you get to fight a wiseass Dolphin who speaks in an Aussie accent?

5 was good for what it was, though. It was certainly unique. If Capcom was to make a new BOF, I wouldn't mind either a traditional game or a Dragon Quarter-esque game.

Disaster Report 4 Cancelled :(

I'm not going to debate on whether that was the right decision or not.  But from a business perspective, IREM is so fucked right now.  They can't spend 2+ years on Bumpty Trot 2 PS3 and then cancel it and move the staff to ZZT4 and spend 2 years+ on that and then cancel that too and still stay afloat with the only games their actually releasing being stuff like R-type Tactics and Dokidoki Suikoden catfight stripping game.

I'm honestly going to be surprised if they don't file bankruptcy in the next year :\

Re: Random Gaming Talk Thread

Was Bumpy Trot 2 ever officially canceled?

Also, I wouldn't be surprised if ZZT4 resurfaces in 2012 or something. I know they're saying it's canceled, but stranger things have happened and IREM really needs to make money somehow.

Never canceled officially, but canned unofficially.

http://www.irem.co.jp/company/recruit/outline.html
Interesting enough, Irem has 220 staff on its salary.  First of all, how is that possible when they barely make any games.  Second of all, how is that possible when they barely make any money.  I sense a scam going on somewhere....

tbh, I think ZZT4 was a mess and nowhere near finished/working/fun.  Irem hasn't released an HD game yet after struggling on them for 4 years now.  I think it might've been out of their league and the game might have been in limbo and it made more sense to cancel it after what just happened then continue to work on it.

Maybe the staff will go back to Bumpy Trot 2?  I dunno.  I honestly don't see how they're going to stay afloat.

I've read that comic, but doing that with the game in question (DDS2) makes no sense to me.

It devolves the game to the most essential bare ingredients of gaming and would make the game boring.

I can understand that you can enjoy games in the most simplest form, and while I can too, I enjoy a full experience.

The only games where I skip the cutscenes are games like Klonoa or Mario or something, where the story is so trivial it doesn't matter.

I like playing what a developer intended.

DDS is a dungeon crawler. The dialogue and cutscenes break up the dungeon crawling with a breather. By taking out the cutscenes and dialogue the game is now no more evolved than a game made in 1990.

Developers intend a lot of things.  Often undesirable.  I see no reason to play something as 'intended' by someone else.
