EA has announced the next entry in its long-running driving series Need for Speed.

Need for Speed: The Run launches on 3DS, PC, PlayStation 3, Wii and Xbox 360 this November. The North American version has a specific 15th November date.

The focus reverts to the world of underground racing, set against the backdrop of a high-speed race across the US from San Francisco to New York.

Development duties are being taken care of by Black Box, which helmed the franchise from 2002 to 2008, creating seven consecutive yearly updates including NFS Underground and NFS Most Wanted. "EA Black Box will spend more than two years of development time on The Run to make sure this is the most action packed and finest cinematic racing experience in NFS history," EA said.

Need for Speed: The Run takes advantage of DICE's new Frostbite 2.0 engine, used in forthcoming first-person shooter Battlefield 3.

That's like Gopher showing up on the Tropicana Deck with a drink in hand and telling Captain Stubing that, even though Gopher has assumed command, they'll still be arriving at port in Puerto Rico per the previous schedule.

Yeah, these days it's pretty common for big projects, whether they be TV series, games, anime, some movies (but not really so much in movies), for there to be a "general director" who is in charge and oversees all the stuff and then one or two "actual directors" under him/her who do all the hands on directors job on a day-to-day basis.  Take for instance Eva 2.22, Anno is the writer and "general director" and there are 2 actual directors under him credited for the film.

Shadows is still very clearly Suda51's game and it should be awesome.

Yeah, the scenario is 100% Suda, I'm not too worried about that. It really depends how hands on Mikami is in the gameplay department though. If he were there overseeing everything and all, then it would be cool. But maybe he's just sitting in his office getting an email progress report once a month and he tells them "do this, do this, do this" and that's it.

Kinda like how Koji Pro were involved with Castlevania LoS.

How the hell do you cancel a preorder at ebgames.com? I pre-ordered Gears 3 there to get the beta code and I'll still probably buy it when it comes out but I don't like to be locked in to a pre-order at any one place. So I went to cancel my order but I can't find a cancel order button anywhere when I log in.  >:(

The latest issue of NGamer is said to have a confirmation in it that should make Tales fans quite happy. Apparently the magazine lists Tales of the Abyss for release in Europe, which is good news indeed. The bad news is, the listing says the title is coming out Spring 2012. Could that be a simple misprint, or will it really take that long for the game to hit Europe?

japanese gets to play wii2 while we european get to play some bad jrpg only after 6 years of it's american release (7 if you count japanese)

-Restrants that look like I should be able to go into them, but you can't
-Having to log onto to a fucking computer to check emails
-Having to type shit into the internet/phone/police car computer
-The phone, it's like a menu only really fucking small and your character slows down when you use it so it might as well just be a full blow menu
-A lock on system that fucking sucks
-Having to go on man dates to maintian relationships with frends, this ussually involves playing crappy minigames
-The city is too big or the missions spread out too quickly.  I'm a 1/3 though the game and still have trouble finding where the ramps onto bridges are.
-Borning missions, where is the variety?
-mission check points that force you to redrive to the location
-I can't save when ever the fuck I want.  I have to drive to a house, then go up a flight of stairs just to save.

That's just off the top of my head

The first few hours were pretty good, yeah, it just crashed hard and fast after that. By the time I finished the game I was just really annoyed with it and bored by how so much of it just felt like the same thing over and over.

They're also ridiculously scripted like COD, no matter what you do or how much you try to make something else happen, it's exactly the same every time and you can't force an outcome before they want you to.

A GIANT EMPTY CITY WITH NOTHING TO DO
This is my main complaint. There is -so- much city, and it looks more robust than any previous Rockstar game, but in terms of activities, their focus on the single storyline, to the detriment of all the "side mission" (R3 missions) is just unforgivable. In the end, you've got zero reason to do anything other than hop a cab to the next story marker and start it. Oddly, the Achievements in the 360 version of the game are the closest to sandbox gameplay:
"Can you get your car to do a triple barrel roll?"
"Can you blow up 20 cars in 30 seconds?"
"Can you survive at top Wanted level for 5 minutes?"

-- Saints Row 1 tried so hard to keep its mini-games within the context of a gang/drug trafficking game, but smartly abandoned that limitation in favor of gameplay in SR2.

Last-gen GTA always allowed its player to jump into a fire-engine or taxi or ambulance, and USE THE CITY to do tasks with which those toys are associated. GTA4 removed all that in order to keep the narrative focused on Niko as a character, because they forgot they were making a sandbox game.

yeah good radio stations tho
This much is true. I loves me some GTA radio. I almost bought the Tales from Liberty City pack just to get the '80s flashback station.

What was crazy for me is the amount of work which went into the "Internet" only to have it used for an introductory mission, and then once more. There's some hidden content there, but not much. It's stunning how much interface work they actually performed there, only to leave it languishing, untouched.

But the man-dates really were the worst: I'm up in the north-east corner of the map. My fat cousin calls, "Hey, cuz! Let's go play darts! Come pick me up."

Fattie lives in the south-west corner of the map. If I go, I lose my driving progress to an actual mission, plus I have to drive all the way across the map to get to him. But if I say no, his feelings will be hurt and my relationship with him will be damaged. "Cuz."

Picking him up, I look for a place to take him. Oh, hey, the DARTS place is in the CENTER of the map. Hey, cuz, why don't you take ONE OF YOUR OWN FUCKING CABS and MEET ME AT THE DARTS PLACE?

We drive out. We play the lamest Darts mini-game ever. "Hey, cuz. Drive me home!" FFFUUUUUUU...

It's sad. The biggest success of GTA4 is the taxicab mechanic, because you can teleport anywhere, you don't have to deal with the driving, and no-one can call you in while instantaneous transit, lessening the chance of man-dates.

Seriously, this is like the apex of web engineering.

I've just been utilising the "boosting sessions" feature. It's incredible. You can filter sessions by achievements you need in games you own. It's really intuitive and useful. I'm gonna get me 1500 in RDR for sure now :rock

not worth it at all when you realize that the disc ONLY has the new music, as opposed to integrating it with the gta4 soundtrack.  its almost worth paying extra for the dlc because the disc selection of music is so small that you'll have heard everything after a couple of hours.

GTA4 fucking glitched out.  On the mission where you plant a bomb in one of the guys cars and phone gary to make it go off, it went to a cut scene and then never went back to game mode.  It didn't freeze because I could still pause the game.

The game is so bad that even swtiching between cut scenes and game play sucks.

I dunno. At least it's not Activision, where they'd all get shot in the head after one only-moderately-successful title.
