There's an achievement in Lollipop Chainsaw for staring up the skirt of the main character, too.

Stay classy, Japan.

Also there's an achievement in Asura's Wrath for staring at the chick's boobs.

The link above is broken. Use this instead.

I've already played the Japanese version and it's my favorite Ys game. You should all pick it up.

The first two games still hold up really well, but I suppose most people prefer the jumping and button-mashing of the newer entries.

I honestly don't think the games feel that different from each other. It's more about learning to read the tells from enemies and memorizing patterns. If you cause damage by ramming or by mashing a button makes little difference to me.

Maybe some average to poor games, they jack the prices up on the "hard to find" games and the "decent" games. Even reprints wind up being $20-30 by themselves.

Probably Atelier Rorona. That has to be their best selling PS3 non-Disgaea game (going off the fact it hasn't gone out of print yet).

This was my experience as well.  To try out some PS2 emulators, I wanted to buy a few good games at Gamestop for $50 at most.  Boy was I surprised how much a lot of the games I wanted were going for.

An example is that I wanted Tekken Tag Tournament (dat Tekken Bowl :hyper ) but at the price they were asking for it, for about $5 more I could just get Tekken Hybrid for PS3.

Probably Atelier Rorona. That has to be their best selling PS3 non-Disgaea game (going off the fact it hasn't gone out of print yet).

Their best-selling PS3 non-Disgaea game is Cross Edge.  Rorona and Trinity Universe also passed 25k.

The PS2 days were definitely kinder to NISA, they passed 50k on a lot of different things pretty regularly.  These days they have stuff that sells under 5k in the opening month.

The Atelier titles are the only NISA PS3 games that don't seem to go out of print. I have no interest in getting Qoga, but it pretty much came out, was available in stores for like 2-3 weeks and was then out of print.

That rumor about another RE on 3DS with the two movies is amazing given who released those two movies.

It's equally as amazing as the fact that a Sony owned animation company is making a 22 minute commercial for a 3DS game.

Cheers though; Yeah Windows Phone is one of the few platforms we probably wont get Jellyflug on.

We use Unity3d you see and it has some reason for not having Windows phone which one of our programmers told me and I promptly forgot.

We're hoping for android by the end of the summer though; we just have to change the pricing structure a little as Android owners are cheap bastards; myself included.

So give it another look once that out by fall or next year in general.

So apparently Sony has sold 1 million torne things in Japan.

Sony can't even sell 1 million PSVitas in Japan.

I can't even remember the last time a Sony published game sold 1 million in Japan.

Torne is about the only thing my PS3 is used for in Japan. Also, it's like ¥8000 on its own, and I believe there was a recent bundle where the Torne and PS3 were about the price of the PS3 standalone.

Keep in mind that streaming video services are only just now taking off in Japan, and PS3 is one of the first devices to support DMM's service, and Hulu.jp

Quote
The game mechanic in question is known as "kompu gacha" (complete gacha). Gacha is a game mechanic based on the coin-operated toy vending machines you find everywhere in Japan; it's essentially a lottery spin to get a virtual item. Nearly every game from DeNA and Gree use the "gacha" mechanic, as do games like PopCap's Bejeweled Blitz. With the "complete gacha" players who want to get a special/rare item must get a set of other items through gacha first. For instance, the user must first get item A through gacha, then item B (also through gacha), then C and D - and only if they can get items A-D (complete gacha) do they get the rare item.

Quote
Konami's stock dropped 18 percent on the news; Namco-Bandai's stock declined 9.5 percent, and Capcom's stock fell by 6.6 percent. "The market for social games may shrink if the warning is issued," said Makoto Sengoku, a Tokyo-based market analyst. "This would ruin profit pillars." A ban on the complete gacha game mechanic could reduce Gree's net income by 18 percent and DeNA's by 6 percent, according to David Gibson, a Tokyo-based analyst at Macquarie Securities Ltd.

What the ffff..... How can the mechanic be illegal? I mean, gambling is illegal in Japan (except for a few exceptions), but this doesn't even have a real payout. These are virtual goods, aren't they?

Yeah, it's getting looked at cuz people are getting bills in the mail for like 700,000 yen from their kids' phones and bitching about it.

I mean, I think gaming as an addiction does need to get more attention, but to me, cracking down on this while fucking pachinko keeps rolling is pretty damned silly.

Yeah, pretty much that.

There should be a means of controlling purchases on a phone -- carriers should implement a capping mechanism, so that parents can say, "My son's phone maxes out at ¥20,000 each month" and it just shuts itself off when it hits that number. Kids would learn quickly.

Or, hey, tell the kids "Don't buy a bunch of this stuff; I'm not paying for it. If you screw up, you'll lose your phone privileges."

He might be, but I doubt it - he's living in the lounge right now which isn't a private place.  He just plays it a fuck of a lot, and so do a couple of the other flatmates, but he's home way more often and never gets off when he is.  Our internet went on the fritz last night and he got withdrawl symptoms.  Fuckin sad.  He has a real crappy too PC so he has all the settings real low  - I have no idea how he can play that purple shit.
