Unfortunately my legendary Logitech Z-5500 died today. I have a headset so I'm not entirely without good audio but still  :'(
So now I need some new PC speakers too. It'll be difficult to find something as good as the Z-5500

The remaster is a mess, but this video makes some dumb points.
Including the good ol' "Unreal Engine is generic", which is just ridiculous for UE4 especially.

He talks about the problems with the visuals being "stylistic" but then shows what are essentially technical problems, of people unable to model, rig and animate properly, with the characters joints breaking up, etc.
Most of the ugly shit in the game aren't intentional but questionable stylistic choices, they are technical horrors and mistakes dictated by either incompetence or having to rush to the finish line.

So I wanted to play BF2042 or at least the 10 free hours included with EA Play which is part of Xbox GamePass Ultimate.
I went to all the regular Xbox / EA pages for BF2042 expecting some kind of 'play now' link.
But instead all I found was sign ups for subscriptions and pre-order buttons (even when logged in as an Ultimate member).
Searching for BF2042 or EA Play in the Windows store also didn't work.

Apparently I needed to go to the Windows store, download the Xbox App or Open the Xbox App and click the EA Play logo.
That sends me back to the Windows store to install the EA desktop app (which doesn't show if you search for EA Play),
connect the EA desktop app with my Xbox account. Enter a 6 digit security code and finally sign in to the EA desktop app with my EA Play account.

I open the EA app and there's is no Battlefield to be found. I thought weird they must be advertising this.
So I use the search bar and type in BF2042, which is listed as an EA Play Pro game (wtf is EA Play Pro bro?).
And then finally there's a button on the BF2042 page in the EA desktop app that says 'Claim your 10 hour trial' or some such.

EA should just put all their PC stuff on the Windows Store / GamePass and Steam this is utterly ridiculous.

I just remember the character design was 
The gameplay seemed pretty bland and by the numbers, when I played the demo. The original VH was cool due to all the neat and varied mission objectives, and the fact that it wasn't too difficult and grindy.

The entire 20 year Xbox thing feels a bit random.
I guess they had a cross promotion with Red Notice, someone remember the Rock once unveiled the Xbox and it all started from there.
They had enough to do a 30 minute Xbox tribute video but not quite enough for a full event. Maybe Geoff wants to keep the VGA's clean this year and they couldn't unveil their documentary there.

Original Xbox games are also automatically graphically boosted in the BC program. Think they get a 4x pixel boost and 16x AF. They also support HDR, but since it's an AI thing it's hit or miss.

It's still a pretty cool way to play these old games

Monte Gallo will release Jumping Flash!– and Pilot Wings-inspired first-person platformer Forza Polpo in Early Access for PC via Steam on November 24, the developer announced.

The Early Access version of the game will ship with the first half of the game, which is made up of eight zones. The full game will contain at least 16 zones, new enemies and assets, aesthetic upgrades, advanced gameplay mechanics, further language support, and other improvements. Xbox BC team has always been clear that the games that make the list are not necessarily ones they focused on but ones that happened to work out because of what they had focused on and then they put in the time to polish them off. Now, I'm not saying they didn't focus on Max Payne just that they might not have.

The first two Max Payne's also share the same engine, and Max Payne 3 shares the RAGE engine with other games, the Bethesda games listed also have same engine roots. It's not a surefire method to get games working but it certainly helps get games working when this is the case. (i.e. they get Max Payne 2 working deliberately and Max Payne 1 works like 75% there or something. This tends to be most obvious with UE games.)

RE backwards compatibility and licensing:

I was wondering to myself why the PGR games weren't on the BC programme: MS own the rights/games fully (as far as I am as aware) and they still release licensed racing games like Forza to this day. BUT they also delist them after 4 years because of licensing reasons...

So I went looking, and Ian Bell (Slightly Mad/Project CARS) said in 2018 prestige licenses can cost $100k+, AND a revenue cut.

So I think the PGR games will forever be stuck on the older systems (and the older Forza's, and other old beloved racing games...) as the initial licensing hurdle is probably just too big, especially for 4x PGR games.

In summary: Fuck car manufacturers, buy a bike.
