Has it been confirmed how many OAVs it's going to be in total?  Is it going to be 6?

It was confirmed to be a 6-episode OVA series back when it was originally announced.

I hope they're able to do the entire series in 6 OAVs...or maybe they'll just release a theatrical movie to wrap things up three years from now. :rock

Rainbow is like the most depressing anime ever. All of the adult characters are perverted sadists with no redeeming qualities what so ever.  :lol

I hope Full Frontal is a cool character.  9/10 times the masked characters in these series are the best.

Here's another new show that's pretty good:

Kid the Phantom Thief

It's from the guy that that did Detective Conan. Apparently what's out right now is just some kind of TV special, but maybe there's going to be a full series soon? I don't know, but the first episode that they put out definitely made me want more of this. Aside from some CG, it has the look and feel of a mid-90's anime.

wait, he has his own series?

Kaito Kid appears every so often in the Detective Conan series (and in the focus of the excellent third Detective Conan movie).  It is usually a treat because it is a time with Conan's "victory" is at best stopping Kid from complete success.  Kaito Kid is also pretty awesome because he helps Conan out and knows his true identity, yet he doesn't do anything because he enjoys the competition Conan presents.

checking for the actual name, the third movie is called "The Last Wizard of the Century".  Best of the Conan movies imo.  The latest one hasn't been released yet, at least not online.

Like I said, it's just a TV special right now. No one's quite sure what they're going to do next [although there is a one-hour Detective Conan special coming up that's dedicated to his origins]. It seems like the gearing up for a full show, but we'll see.

yeah, I'm looking for it to see whats up.

The closest he had to leading role in a series was that crappy Conan / Kaito Kid / Yaiba crossover special.  Those never turn out good.

They had Lupin vs Conan and it turned out to be shit!

Watching:

1. Senkou no Night Raid [2 episodes]
2. House of Five Leaves [2 episodes]
3. Angel Beats [4 episodes]
4. Arakawa Under the Bridge [3 episodes]
5. Tatami Galaxy [1 episode]
6. Working [3 episode]
7. Rainbow [2 episodes]

Dropped:

8. Heroman [2 episode]
9. Kaichou wa Maid-sama [1 episode]
10. Mayoi Neko Overrun! [2 episodes]
11. Ichiban Ushiro no Daimaou
12. Hakuouki [1 episode]
12. B Gata H Kei [1 episode]

Notes:

-Heroman features a standard plot about a put-upon kid who receives a giant robot which he then uses to fight evil invaders. Nothing new there, but the show has enough color and energy to make up for any shortcomings in the plot. I don’t know if I’ll finish the show, but it should be fun for a few episodes at least.

-Despite a premise that made it seem destined for utter failure, Kaichou wa Maid-sama is actually a very earnest shoujo romance. It’s got touches of humor, a strong female lead, and a male lead that’s actually a decent guy. On the flip side, it’s annoyingly generic in its plotting and seems like a ripoff of Kare Kano but without the visual uniqueness and energy.

-B Gata H Kei gets Dropped. DROPPED. Not quickly enough. It’s just so incredibly stupid, with no redeeming values what-so-ever.

-Hakuouki just didn’t catch my interested.

-Arakawa Under the Bridge has that special brand of weirdness that only SHAFT can provide. Some of the humor is stretched a bit too thin, but it had enough humorous moments and interesting quirks to keep me interested through the whole episode. I don’t know if I’ll stick with this one to th end, but I’ll definitely watch at least a few more episodes.

-Ichiban Ushiro no Daimaou has a very interesting premise, a student at a magical school is pegged as the second coming of the worst dark lord in history, but it’s all squandered on harem nonsense and a parade of panty shots and other such fanservice foolishness. A pity, but hardly a rare occurrence in today’s anime market.

-Senkou no Night Raid is an action packed thriller about a group of Japanese secret agent in China during the 1930′s. They’ve also got some kind of super powers, one can leap through space and another can performs feats of extreme physical strength and so on. The historical significance of the period and location is pretty dark for Japan, so it’ll be interesting whether they touch on any of the atrocities committed in China or simply leave it as background.

-Working is a show that I should hate, but somehow I don't. It's a slice of life comedy about a average guy who falls in with a bunch of wacky characters that work at a local family restaurant. Somehow it manages to be funny without resorting to sexual innuendo and fanservice, which is much appreciated these days.

-Rainbow, about six kids in a Japanese prison in the mid-50's, is a show that I'd really like to enjoy watching, but it's oppressive depressing nature makes that very difficult. Everything is very downbeat and dark, even the art is stark and unfriendly. Also, all of the adult characters are perverted sadists with no redeeming factors at all, which makes the show kind of ridiculous even when it's trying to very serious.

-I haven't actually watched KissxSix but everything I've read and seen about it suggests to me that anyone in their right mind should steer far away from it. I don't think this show has anything good going for it whatsoever.

-House of Five Leaves a samurai drama, is one of the best shows this season. It's a slowly-paced series that focuses on the characters and their interactions and what they're all about rather than action or wacky hijinks. Very, very good show with some rather unique character designs.

-Tatami Galaxy is probably the strangest series this season. It follows a college student who has completely failed at love and so decides to make everyone else fail too. For a while, it works, but then he starts to have feelings for a female student who he has known for a while. It sounds standard enough, but the results are anything but. Utterly wild show in every way.

This thread needs to get posted in more.

I watched Working!! ep1 last night and it was ok.  Light entertainment, animation was ok, was alright.  But I'm already getting better animated, funnier slice of life comedy with K-On so I don't think I'll watch anymore of this.  Speaking of which I thought K-On!! ep4 was a really cute and funny girl bonding ep.  The animation was sooooo good.  I dunno if it's sad for the industry or just impressive for the studio, but K-On!! probably has the best quality animation this season.  It's so fluid and the characters change clothing like EVERY 10 MINS.  Very nice.  Though Tatami Galaxy has some great animated sequences as well.

I'm watching
Trapeze
K-On!!
Tatami Galaxy
Black Lagoon
Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei

But I might drop Zetsubou because the first few eps haven't been that good.  I'm only giving it another shot because Bakemongatari was just so, so awesome that it made me think Shinbo is actually really good and I want to catch up on some of his stuff I haven't seen (I saw Soul Taker, Cossette, Tsukiyome and then gave up on him because Tsukiyome while cute ended up pretty dull).

Yeah, it's an okay series. Nothing ground breaking or particularly special, but it's inoffensive enough to still be enjoyable as light entertainment.

no manga were updated last week despite crazy cliffhangers the week before.  but some information about the new chapters leaked and as expected Bleach and Naruto are boring.  But Hunter X Hunter :hyper

Ippo manga also sucks now.  This one fight has been going on forever and it is boring and sucks.  And I think the new FMA manga chapter (one of the last) is this or next week.

Tatami Galaxy ep2 was sooooo good.
I'm really impressed by this show.  Will definitely be the show to watch for 2010.  Mind Game, Kemonozume, Kaiba all had a lot of good to them, but I think Tatami Galaxy is the first show where all Yuasa's talent comes together into a show that nails it just right.

Then again I'm huge fan of endless cycles of fate and romance like Xenogears/The Fountain so the plot is right up my alley.

Is it just me or have the past few season of anime featured more aggressively-awful shows than there used to be? I mean, it's not just that there are a lot of shows that aren't very good, because there certainly are, but there's been this insurgence of shows that have pushed the bounds of good taste so far that it boggles my mind that they ever made it on to television in the first place.

Shows like:

-Ichiban Ushiro no Daimaou
-B Gata H Kei
-Kissxsis
-Ladies versus Butlers
-Chu-Bra
-Dance in the Vampire Bund
-Mayoi Neko Overrun!
-Shin Koihime†Musō
-Sora no Otoshimono
-Queen's Blade
-Seikon no Qwazer

There's varying degrees of badness here, but some of these shows are well and truly putrid. There's been some really bad shows before, but has it really been THIS bad?

So my recent trip to Japan showed no signs of the moe fad dying out yet.  It still seemed to be in full force.

-Queen's Blade
-Seikon no Qwazer

There's varying degrees of badness here, but some of these shows are well and truly putrid. There's been some really bad shows before, but has it really been THIS bad?

Chu-Bra is different from all those other shows.  Seriously, despite its premise, it's not a moe-moe fan-service harem show.  I watched most of it and still think it was really more intended for a female audience (the author is female BTW).  It's still disturbing that the characters are all in junior high, however, especially the group member who is essentially a prostitute.

The rest I haven't watched more than an episode of (if that) except for Queen's Blade, which I don't think counts as "moe" either.  It's borderline-hentai at times and is chocked FULL of fan service n' titties galore, but it knows what it is and isn't hiding anything, so for me it's a guilty pleasure.   :-[  Plus 95% of the characters are not loli.

I actually liked the first episode of Dance In The Vampire Bund, and then skimmed through the following episode and stopped watching it.  Not interested in loli-vampire high school antics.

One show that has been completely glossed over on this forum is Hanamaru Kinergarten.  It's really light-hearted and I enjoyed it.  I think I still need to watch the final episode.

Working is my favorite of this season out of what I have seen so far.  The main character liking the smaller girl because she looks 12 is just flat-out creepy though.  STOP.  PUTTING.  SHIT.  LIKE.  THIS.  IN.  YOUR.  SERIES.  JAPANESE.  PEOPLE.  CUT.  IT.  OUT.  It's not cute.  It's just disturbing.

I got an Amazon spam mail saying the Samurai Champloo BD box set is now only $39. Is that a good deal?
I only ever watched a couple of episodes, but if it's anything like Afro Samurai (the movie), I'd probably skip it. Any sensible recommendations?

Sure.  It's a good show.  Comedy + action with an overall light mood.  There's no real story until the last few eps; it's random bizarre episodic stories.  Good art/animation/music.
The BD box is just an upscale so it doesn't look any better (some say worse) than the dvds.  But at $40 for the whole show you can't really go wrong.

There's an episode about the birth of baseball in Japan that is genius.  Same with an ep about Graffiti taking off.  Everything in the show is fictional of course :P

- Memories
- Metropolis
- Perfect Blue
- Millennium Actress
- Tokyo Godfathers
- Now and Then, Here and There
- most Ghibli stuff
- Otaku no Video

it's about this bartender (duh!) who's like a super-skilled bartender and he uses his super bartender power to help customer out of their problem,it's sort of like kino no tabi tough more grounded in reality and with tons of cocktail jargons, plus the art is pretty nice

Hmmm....

Quote
The official website of the Senkō no Night Raid anime series has announced  on Monday that it will stream the seventh episode ("Jihen"/Incident) instead of having it air on television. The episode depicts the point of view of the Japanese in Manchuria during the events leading up to the 1931 Mukden Incident. The alleged sabotage of Japan's railway in this area of China was the pretext for Japan's invasion of Manchuria that same year.

The streaming of "Jihen" will run from May 18 to May 30, although whether the stream will be geographically restricted has not been specified. Instead of showing "Jihen," the television stations in Japan will air the special episode "Yogen" (Prediction), in which a key person of the story will discuss the story thus far and predict what will come for Japan's Sakura Kikan spy organization in China.

FMA ch.107 is up at onemanga

Not bad.  Kind of by the books, but satisfying.  Similar to X it seems like the manga is copying the original anime conclusion to some degree.  Probably because the original anime ending was AWESOME.

Oh well, <30 days until FMA is over.

That's normal Himuro.  Bleach is terrible after Soul Society.  Gotta milk that series out to pay the bills!
