Anyway on GAF they are saying that if you put your tag on a flash drive it lessens the uberload of your games library. Haven't tried it yet.

I tried it and it does seem to be a lot faster in that regard.

haha, Brandnew is only back cuz he was banned at GAF?

That would be pretty nice, but why would it have that effect?

Well, BrandNew might not have thought this place was worth his time, but if banned from GAF then he basically has no other option so then he might have come back. But I will still give him the benefit of the doubt and assume that he did like our company and was coming back anyway.

What else am I going to do with it  :lol

I only had about 80 gigs filled up...and that's just because I wanted some sort of wii library.  Only play about 5 or 6 of them.

:lol sorry! I should'a bolded what I had intended to be the subject of the question. Fixed now.  ;)

I just don't understand how putting the gamertag on a USB drive but still having your library on the HDD would result in a performance increase for loading/displaying the library contents.

Wow just wow, wonder what other games have benefits from solid state installs.

Do I have to transfer my gamer profile over to the USB stick, or can I install what I want to the stick while keeping my main profile on the HDD?
Probably every game that is seek heavy like GTA.

You can keep your profile wherever you want.

I knew what you meant :lol

And I guess when you go to the dashboard the console has to re-check all of your licenses for everything you've downloaded and it's easier to seek that data on a flash drive than on a hard drive. There's really no excuse for how long it takes in the first place, especially when you're just returning to dash from a game rather than booting cold.

Hah! I was fished-in.  :lol

Well, here's the thing: I'm using a solid-state MU for my gamertag and running my library from the HDD, and it is dog ass slow. If it's referring to a download history, checking licenses, or something like that, I can see how it would be slow no matter what. But it's not like an HDD is going to be stunningly faster than an HDD when dealing with a paltry amount of data.

Can I assume that a flash drive would be a safer place for my profile than a HDD? Thinking of making the move

I dont see why not. Why would it be safer? Both are just as liable to lose data or corrupt

Can't you keep your profile on both your HDD and the USB drive? ???

I have a 60 GB unit and I'm thinking of buying a USB drive for all my save files and stuff

Anyone know what speed of USB stick will get better performance than a HDD?

I've got some cheapo 16gb sticks that have read speeds of about 11mbps, wondering if there'd be any benefit

Ordered 2 16GB Toshiba sticks last night :rock

Looking forward to less noise and heat from that thing. It's kind of crazy how many changes we've seen with the 360 so far this gen - just imagine going back to a 2005 launch 360 now.

Installed VF5 which has some pretty grody load times. Seems to be a good improvement but I'd have to do real tests and I'm lazy. Using my 32mbps stick (which still failed the test while the 11mbps one didn't...wtf)?
