So I went to the other school I work at today to meet with the English teachers I'm going to be working with.  I'm introduced to one of them, this bald, middle-aged guy who's working as a temporary teacher.

I try to hold a fairly simple conversation with him...he can't speak English!  He can only speak in fragments and random words.

"Do you know how many classes we will teach together?"
"I no know...is first...this school....is first..."

When I asked him what date we'd teach our first class he actually had to count out the numbers in English on his fingers!  I tried to get some more information out of him but he excused himself...

"I busy...pasocom..."

lol, I've never met a supposed English teacher with such piss-poor speaking ability.  I only teach one class with him twice a week, but the poor kids in that class are fucked...at least I only have to work with him for four months.  This is going to be really damn frustrating though.

That's what you get for trying to teach those sneaky kids your native tongue so they can be inserted into American society as covert spies for your government! :punch

In five years, I have seriously never met someone whose English ability was so piss-poor and actually had the gall to call himself an English teacher.

The guy seriously can't make a complete sentence!  It's the most pathetic fucking thing I have ever seen!

"It seems we'll be teaching a class together this year."
"I no know...I no know class...."
"What do you mean?"
"I no have...purinto..." *points to my schedule*
"You mean the schedule?"
"other teacher...make...purinto..."

It's not just that he speaks in fragments, but that he actually has to pause between each fucking word to think about it.

I suspect teaching with this guy is going to be a complete disaster.

Pretty sure the English teacher doesn't know the meaning of about half of those words.

Not true.  'you' and 'me' are easy.  I learnt them from the smash bros commercial.  I also call you a jerk, so you know I know that.  And how could I not know the meaning of 'alone'? :(

'leave' is pretty tough though.

It's a communications class so we perform dialogues together, help the students practice their pronunciation, etc., etc.

Shit is going to be tough when the Japanese teacher can't speak English, though.

That's right, this is your last four months, huh?  Don't sweat it; sit back and relax.  You can do whatever the fuck you want to now.   :lol  My demeanor completely changed when April came around during the last of my time on JET.  Didn't slack off or anything, but didn't worry at all about how the classes with the new teachers were.  The poor new vice-principal at one school would try and tell me how to do things and I'd just shrug him off like Peter did to Lumberg in Office Space.

What type of things did the new VP try to tell you to do?

The problem is that I still want the students to enjoy their school experience, you know?  I don't want them to get turned off of English just because the Japanese teacher is fucking incompetent.  Seriously, a person like that has no right teaching a language that he can't frickin' speak.  It's no wonder he's almost 50 and working as a fucking temp.

They'll suck in air through their teeth, shake their heads, make sounds to indicate that they're thinking deeply, and then say "shoganai" ("It can't be helped").

I have zero pull with the school.  Being a foreigner and being split between two schools means I am at one of the lower rungs of the ladder - the only folks lower than me are the part-time teachers.  The school isn't going to do shit just because I say the English teacher can't speak English.

So all I can do is bitch about it here.

Challenge him to a Freestyle Battle in front of the class. He'll stutter through it so much the kids will laugh at him and he'll be forced to quit. Then they'll hire LL Cool J :bow

What type of things did the new VP try to tell you to do?

Nothing big, just general school protocol type stuff.  I'd just shrug him off as I browsed forums and tell him I knew what to do and was leaving in a few months.  He didn't seem like a bad guy or anything, but I just didn't care.  That wasn't my base school anymore and I barely ever saw the guy.  Also his predecessor was the nicest lady EVER.  She retired though.  The OTHER VP at my base school was the complete bitch and I hated her so fucking much.  Only person at any of those schools I just didn't like or really get along with.  I learned to shrug her off too.  "WHERE DO YOU THINK YOU'RE GOING?!?!"  "To get lunch."  "DIDN'T YOU PAY FOR SCHOOL LUNCH?!"  "Yeah, I don't want it today.  Going to the conbini." :::shrug, walk out the door:::

That kind of stuff.  What the hell are they going to do when you're only there for a few more months?  Nothing!  That had nothing to do with the kids, either.

You're kind of up shit's creek here.  There's nothing you can do about that teacher being completely incompetent and unable to do his job, as you already well know.   :-\  Maybe that teacher will end up having you do everything when you're there and the kids will see that with you English can be fun, and it's just their teacher that sucks.  But I doubt it.  Poor kids.

"This is how we do this here, you do this that way, about the schedule, we..." etc.  He finally stopped doing this when one of the English teachers said what I wanted to say..."yeah, he's leaving in a few months.  Don't worry about it."   :lol

Sometimes you gotta go for it.  I don't know if I'm going to be able to stop myself from rolling my eyes when I inevitably say something in the classroom and the guy just stands there with a stupid expression on his face because he has no idea what I just said.
