As a kid who got into arguments with friends about why Blue was better than Red, I can only imagine kids today yelling "WHITE IS BETTER THAN BLACK" and so on

If this is the series reboot as I've heard rumored, I'll be all over this shit.  I love the base mechanics, but the series has gotten way too bloated.  Would love just a fresh set of 200 pokemons segregated from the previous generations.

Ha, segregation.

edit:
Oh just the other day I was thinking they were going to go with ebony and ivory.

Each version has different exclusive pokemon, so to catch 'em all you have to trade with someone who owns the other version.

it's kinda pointless now that they have wi-fi and the global trading system, which means you can just find hackers or dupers that will trade you a lvl 100 legendary for your ratatta

I think a big audience for this game is still people who can play locally like the Japanese or children.  It's like why Monster Hunter is so popular in Japan and not in America, or why those games seem so much more popular on the PSP than a home consoles like the Wii, at least in Japan.

As an older western group of players, a group of nerds getting together to trade virtual animals for ocd reasons sounds a bit odd.

I hope they don't change nothin'!

Complainin' about Zubats? Boy, in my day we didn't have Zubats. We had Yubats! ("Z" hadn't been invented yet, ya see). And we walked to school across Mt. Moon, uphill both ways, in the snow! Anybody who didn't have a bunch of Yubat bites was called a distinguished effete fellow and beaten to death.

Like the time I caught the ferry to Vermillion City. I needed a new heel for m' Running Shoe. So I decided to go to Orange City, which is what they called Vermillion City in those days. So I tied an Apricorn to my belt. Which was the style at the time. Now, to take the ferry cost five Pokedollars, and in those days, pokedollars had pictures of Beedrills on 'em. Gimme five Beedrills for a quarter, you'd say. Now where was I... oh yeah. The important thing was that I had an Apricorn tied to my belt, which was the style at the time. You couldn't get white Apricorns, because of the war. The only thing you could get was those big yellow ones...

The new perspective angle reeks of '3D' possibilities. The inevitable 3rd version of this game will likely be 3DS exclusive so Nintendo can go "LOOK AT THE NEW 3D, BUY THE SAME GAME AGAIN PLEASE".

that's why they should just do a spin-off or something that changes things up without the consequence of mass suicides from confusing things like 360 degree movement.  Grandia style battles in pokemon would kick ass.

Yeah, I don't understand why everyone is clamoring for a major revision of the formula.  What they have now is accessible, low impact, and addictive as fuck.  They just need to rebalance the type charts, reduce the pokedex down to less gimmick pokemon (more full evolution lines), and prune the movepool.  It be nice if they could remove some of the obligatory trading aspects of the games for a lonely fuck like me but I understand why its there.
