I use a Merkur and Feather blades. I was scared when I started but I don’t cut myself anymore than I did with a Mach 3. Remember to let gravity do most of your shaving for you by using the weight of the razor. This is a little easier for me if I hold it at the tip of the handle.

Just booked a 4 day solo traveling weekend in downtown Portland in a couple of weeks. Anyone in Portland besides Catscatscats (who I will hit up)? Also any recommendations on what to see and do with 3 days in downtown Portland without a car? Gonna take a river cruise since there's a river nearby and I like boats, otherwise I know the bookstore is tourist spot but not really into bookstores, heard the flower garden is nice? And voodoo donuts is pretty famous.

Also any good eats recommendations?

I'm not sure if I'll love it, but I hope it'll be a neat place to wander around and drink beer. Wanted to go to Montreal/Quebec but I need a time when I can take more time off work for that, and I want to go to New Orleans but gotta wait until the right time of year where it's not miserably humid.

I haven't been to Portland in a very long time, but it was really wonderful. There are plenty of independent coffee places if you like coffee. There are lovely old buildings downtown, as well as a lovely park that runs a long strip through downtown. It is beautiful and green. Before you go, make sure and watch plenty of Portlandia so you can adopt your Endless Nineties costume and mannerisms.

It's easier for something like cars I guess since (to continue the example) tightening emissions rules and the cost of gasoline means an entry-level new Mustang is a 4 cylinder vehicle now (lol), but this is a steel French bicycle and I can get brand new ones (though not terribly cheap) that won't have PITA QOL aspects like a vintage one will (e.g. French threaded bottom bracket shells).

So I signed up for coffee meets bagel since I'm not really interested enough in dating right now to bother with a full online profile, just looking to see who else is looking.

Anyhow, what I found interesting was when I looked at single people in their thirties, like 50% of the women who came up were lawyers. Like more so than any other position. Wonder if there's something to lawyers not having time to meet people. Was interesting.

As a lawyer, I'd never date a lawyer myself. Too much interaction within the community. But hey, if you're a guy in your 30s or early 40s, there's lots of single female lawyers out there looking for the right man!

Recently I've developed an interest in hunting. I don't have any friends with interest or experience so I'm trying to learn all this on my own. You can do a guided hunt but it literally sounds like one of those things where they feed the deer and you shoot it. No thanks.

I took the required course yesterday which I figured would either make me more interested or i would realize it's not for me. Well, it made me more interested. I was the only person there alone though. A bunch of fathers with sons or daughters and a bunch of friends going. Also, absolutely no black people.

So if there are any boreans with hunting experience I'd appreciate any advice. Other than that, just wanted to share that it kind of sucks trying to learn something like this on your own and it sucks having friends that are all talk about doing something but at the end of the day they flake.

Apparently she broke up with him. He wasn't having it. At least that's what the news said. Our entire street is blocked off and news vans are lined up in the neighborhood. I can't wait to tell kids not to go to the murder house on Halloween.

My dad's dad is dying. My dad and his mom took him to the emergency room today and after running some tests found cancer at a very progressive stage. He's been coughing in fits and is in a lot of pain. My dad's more worried about his mom's going to be going forward. She's been taking care of him for the past 6 months, but the gravity of the situation hasn't sunk in for her as much as it has for everyone else. My dad, aunt and uncle are going to try to push for hospice care -neither of their parents wants to stay in the hospital. Neither of them are communicating, natch.

This is the first time for anyone in my immediate family. I wasn't close with him; I don't need any consoling. We don't know whether it'll be 1 week or 6 months.

Are your grandparents quite old ? Looking to hospice care is probably wise if so, it is really a thing to see a steep decline in the mental and physical ability for the widow to manage oneself once their partner is gone. In my experience, parents tend to bottle up a lot of stuff in those situations. It's not easy reaching out to them about that, but be there for them, obviously.
