I'm upset about it, but at the same time I'm relieved. For a store with seven people working in it, there is more drama and bullshit than is conceivable.
We live in a rural area that doesn't do much in sales outside of the holidays, but we're still expected to keep up with the company on a nationwide level in sales, game reservations, and magazine subscriptions. The company gives us more to do and less to do it with, and all the time they make it harder on us. The stress level that comes with such a simple job is unnecessary. The fact that they only give us a few hours a week of work is just icing on top of one shitty cake.
Walmart, from what I've been told, is not much different as far as being a big company that doesn't necessarily care about their employees. However, they will always need people in their stores and can't do much in the way of running a skeleton crew during slower months (and they don't really have that many "slow" months, because they sell fucking everything). Walmart won't ask me to sell anything other than what the customer wants, they'll give me a schedule according to what hours I'm available, and I'll be able to sleep peacefully at the end of the night.
As for right now, I have to keep hoping I can make ends meet until I get my student loan leftovers.
