Well, I mean I bought cassettes back in the day because CDs DIDN'T EXIST YET.

I thought they were phased out and it was like CDs = mainstream, Vinyl = hipsters & audiophiles.

Now I'm at a show and all the bands have their albums ON CASSETTE & VINYL and all the hipster kids are buying them on cassettes and I'm like wtf are they even playing them on lol


For like 30 seconds I wanted to buy an album on cassette out of nostalgia, then I realized I'm not dumb.

cassettes are the cheapest way to create physical media right now to my understanding (thanks to the surfeit of old cassette tape material left over from decades past)

so it makes sense to see them pop up in experimental / noise / punk genres

i've bought a few cassettes because i wanted to support the artist yet wanted an artifact instead of just some mp3s

and i do have a tape player and have listened to the tapes

CDs are way cheaper to print. Vinyl doesn't have to be that expensive, but you usually need to order large quantities (500 or 1000) in order to get someone to do it for you. I also own a cassette player, but it's pretty useless without an aux out.

i agree with this.  they're a pain in the ass to listen to with rewinding and fast-forwarding.   That'd be like cherishing long load times on old systems. 

that said, i've bought some recently released tapes of artists I like, just cause they were limited or whatever.  i don't intend to get a tape deck/listen to them.  :'( 

A friend who released a tape of noise music said it was cheaper also.  The label he was on only sells tapes...but I refuse to believe it's purely a cost issue.  A lot of independent/underground artists have a thing about appearing esoteric and what better medium for that than something inaccessible to most people.

Few people buy CDs. Cassettes work because they're cheap and provide a collectable incentive for the types of folks who champion indie bands. No one "collects" CDs today, whereas bands make decent money off vinyl and cassette special editions without losing money. CD-Rs may be cheap but it's a lot easier to lose money on CD releases than vinyl today.

I'm not even a big collector, but I've bought more cassettes than CDs over the last couple years. And I don't even have a cassette player.

I did a free Amazon Prime trial recently and completely forgot to cancel before the renewal until I noticed it on my bank statement. 

But Amazon actually allows you to cancel the renewal from the account management page, and issues a full refund if you've never used the service, no hassle.  I'm impressed—that's a seriously progressive customer experience.

decided to hit up a garage sale in the wealthiest suburb in the state today.  the craigslist ad is all "everything you could ever dream of"     I guess that means they'll have a bunch of PS1 imports for me to buy.  gonna be pissed if some ebay neckbeard mutant sewer trash are there before me and take all the games, if they have any.  I used to run into those fucks all the time in wisconsin.   They'll knock on people's doors before the sale even starts  :'(

I was gonna get rid of my graphic novels for some dough, but I ended up not needing it.  Other than that, most of my clutter is furniture that can be trashed/sold when I move this summer, a plasma that I may or may not keep, and some clothes that can be donated...the rest fits in the car.
