Found a place that's a pretty good deal and I could probably swing now.

It's just kind of in the 'hood*, a drive from my clients, and the landlord is advertising as month to month.

That last bit is farshtunken, I know, but I'm confident I can talk to them--businessperson to businessperson--and get something a little more substantive in writing. When you have 3 credit scores over [redacted], it opens some doors.

Dude. I felt like an idiot two weeks ago when the typhoon was WRECKING Okinawa, and I bailed on a new biz meeting because I was afraid of being thrown from the planet. The typhoon didn't even end up hitting Osaka, and barely even rained. Yesterday's meeting was the make-up for it, and I apologized 4 or 5 times. $:-\$

As for making peace, it's hard to see it that way if it is. It feels too much like the well worn roads of the past where money was used in lieu of introspection and change. (OH BOO HOO, I know.)

I don't know what kind of crap you're going through. You're clearly very smart and a praise junkie of some kind, which I think means rejection issues. At least that's what it means for me. so I can understand the need to distance from your parents to avoid letting them hurt you.

It's been a while since I trotted out Frankl here, but sometimes the only choice we have in a situation is our reaction to the situation. Your parents don't control you. You're independent of them -- or as independent of them as you choose to be.

Whether or not your parents are changing doesn't matter. They may have made a genuine effort, or it may have been a throwaway gesture, but in the end what matters for you is how you react to it. You're the only person who can break the patterns within yourself.

Now if I could only follow this advice for myself more often, I'd be king of the world!

About 8:30 this morning all hell broke loose outside of my house. Sirens and SWAT everywhere. Turns out some shitheads planted 3 explosive devices by the back door of my sons high school, which just happens to be about 150 yards from my front door. They are saying that the devices were bottle bombs (don't know what that is) but the girls softball team was getting ready to start practice with the football teams, track runners, and band practice scheduled for later in the day. Nobody was injured even though one of the bombs did detonate. Fucking hooligans probably used the shortcut into the neighborhood which run through my property to get away.

Great way to start the day.

My fiance was finally starting to do better, as her 4 month clinical depression ended and she was coping psychological and physical with her chronic neck/back pain from her car accident last year much better and was getting ready to try physical therapy again and take good care of her self and we were gonna go on a vacation to SC and relax a little.

and then she got rear-ended again yesterday afternoon while stopped at a red light by someone not paying attention again in a big strong car :/

Impact was only 10-20mph, but since she has existing major injuries...who knows how this will affect them. Especially if she might have fibromyalgia. Last night she was really sore, and same this morning. We'll just have to see if it goes back to normal pain levels after a week. I'm working from home today, helping her out with stuff sp she can take it easy. Fingers crossed this doesn't make things worse.

Also, she told me that last weekend when she was visiting her parents in slightly ghetto Asian gang area, she went to get yogurt at night for her family and as she left some guy was following her to her car, but it was public and there were other people around so she just walked fast and got in her car. When she opened the door and was about to sit down the guy grabbed her ass and she on instinct slapped the guy, who was a 6'1" older Asian guy who then laughed and did the Russian throat slit sign across his neck to her and she got in her car and quickly drove off.

Her cop friend told her she should take self-defense classes but I'm not sure how that would've helped there, though I understand it would have helped if the guy tried to grab her or something.

She's doing criminal justice as part of her double major and wants to work for or with the police force. One of her professors is a cop and she's friends with all her professors. She asked her cop professor if slapping the guy was illegal/the right thing to do in that situation and he told her next time that happens to give the phone to the assailant and dial the cop professor's number and he'll tell them he's sending someone over and to hold onto their butts. While that sounds "cool", I don't think street-smart-wise it'd be such a good idea to hand your phone over to a creepy person who is stalking you and/or groped you and/or is possibly a gang member.

Pro: Apparently I have a tax practice of my own waiting for me when I get my EA. Being born on the finish line brehs, I finally made it to the pinnacle of white privilege.

Anecdote: When the CPA explained to me how I would be remunerating them for this largesse I responded with, "Oh, so it'll work like kickbacks do," and they got mighty flustered at my comparison of criminality and commerciality. Maybe I don't listen to Brecht for the music after all.

I know, I know. It's not ideal, but she's like the person who sits in front and asks a million questions and then goes and sees the professor after class and asks a bunch more because she's really enthusiastic about the subjects and education is her passion. She was homeschooled so college is her first experience with real school and it's a bigger deal to her than it was for me or most people I'd wager.

Otoh, this has resulted in the occasional male professor trying to hit on her and her having to drop the class and take it the next semester with a different professor instead. But for the professors that aren't creeps, it's helped her in classes and they've all been really good and friendly about special arrangements because of her injuries (letting her sit in the back and get up and take breaks; one professor let her not show up to class after halfway because her grades were the top of the class and just e-mailed her the slides and let her take the final from home).
