Not surprising.  I've found that whenever someone calls something the "something famous" of the South, that usually means it sucks and doesn't even remotely resemble the real thing.

Have you been to Vegas, Eel?  It's pretty fun even for someone who doesn't gamble nor drink like me.

It's like porno-disneyland. I don't gamble, and having a location's charm solely be limited to conspicuous consumption is appalling. :liberalcry

If you like musicals or magic shows, it is probably OK. I am also almost entirely certain I'm "doing it wrong." I mean, I've been there once for my family, and the other half dozen times for business, and I'm entirely too busy to really do anything but argue with cabbies and try and figure out the half-assed hotel wi-fi. Oh, also, given a choice between reasonable and surly, the security guys always choose "dick."

For what is worth I didn't find Mississippi to be that much different than most Southern Cities. A little bit more hickish but pretty much the same as the rest of the South. I did some gambling. It was okay.
