Spain dominated overall.

talking shit again?

Dominated my arse - better team yes, dominated? ffs - is that your ONE appraisal of football matches?

hell, it'd fucking explain a lot!

Really Charlie?

Germany was a non entity for 70 minutes, they couldn't take the ball away from spain, their midfield was allowing Spain's midfield to play with space, and their counter attacks were being shut off by Spain. Then Spain opted for counter attack play and almost scored again.

You really just seem to enjoy arguing the opposite. Whatever DCharlie

A Spanish friend on another board said yesterday that if you believed Germany was going to win you were either dumb or an American.  He was correct.

Your Spanish friend is a fucking idiot, only an illogical individual would claim Germany had absolutely zero chance of winning today.

Well he actually said more.  He said that people weren't real soccer fans were looking at the matches leading up to the game and extrapolating that Germany would dominate, while real soccer fans knew that Germany would never play Spain straight up, that it would be a low scoring, and that Spain would pull out a win.

See bolded part.

The first half the game definitely felt like both teams were sort of on auto pilot, weren't really straining to overcome the other. Even the announcers on ESPN said something about the game being fairly friendly so far (no tackles for a good while). The tempo definitely changed halfway in to the second half.

just disagree with your definition of dominance - more so in this case than the other.

Game was largely routine and a measured nulification by both sides with the odd chance falling to either side. Neither side dominated and after the goal we were left with a pushing german side looking for an opening leaving themselves open to a counter.

There was no dominance on show - tight game won by a superb headed chance, so for me i just cannot fathom anyone watching this game and going "oh, Spain dominated!"

in other news - you'd be surprised how many england fans are angry at Germany now because the "exclusive World Cup winners" club is going to be "ruined" by another club joining it. Then again - almost all of them know fuck all about football and it's all an excuse for nationalist jingoism. I'm personally thrilled we'll have a new name in there.

There was a point in the game where Spain had 12 shots vs 2 shots. Germany's first shot came at the 20 something minute mark. The only goal scoring chance for the Germans was the 1st time shot by Kroos that Casillas defended.

It was far from a tight game. Had Spain converted more, we would be looking at a more expressive scoreline. Germany's counter attacks didn't work in this game, and it was only when Spain decided to pressure in their own midfield instead of Germany's midfield, that Germany took the game to them, and even then what happened is that Spain proved to be much more dangerous with their counters than Germany had been.

Yes, if you watched the full game, it's pretty easy to say at least that Spain dominated the majority of the game, and that Germany had barely any goal chance.

Holland has a GREAT chance against Spain. One of the great things Spain has managed to do is sort of completely force their style of play upon their adversaries. Look how Germany was completely unable to do what they normally do...

That said, Holland plays a much more cynic style of game, so i think they will have a much easier time handling Spain's style than others. However, it should be said, that if the REf isn't afraid to show the yellow card in the final, Holland is in deep shit because Spain has the kind of talent that breaks through opponents, and Holland has shown time and time again how they like to deal with those offensive maneuvers, they foul the fuck out of the other guy. In Contrast, Spain fouls very little, as they rely on the support of the team to cover the mistakes, and they force the error on the adversary.

So who knows, if Ref allows Van Bommel and company to just run free i firmly believe that Spain is gonna struggle to build much of anything.

They lost to Switzerland and only scored 6 goals this world cup, we won against Brazil and scored 12.

The wrong way to look at stats...

Those guys are absolutely insufferable. I still remember at one point in the GAF thread I made an innocuous, off-hand prediction that Arshavin (after he was hyped for his performance in Euro 08) would do well in the Premier League. Then Karakand was like "LOL NEW GUNNER ITT TO REPLACE THEM ALL!!111!" (when I'm not really an Arsenal fan even) and a bunch of people jumped in to yell that Arshavin could never handle the physical pressures of the almighty EPL.

Yeah, and anyway, what happened? Arshavin did well--very well, even--in the Premier League.

I am happy that Ronaldo's record is intact but I kinda wish that we got the opportunity to see Klose fail.   It was really surprising that Klose didn't come off the bench at all.   Did he do something to piss off the coach?

How good was that last kick from Forlan?  Dude was amazing in this tournament and outperformed many of the more loudly-lauded players.  It's a shame that he didn't get to compete on a stronger team.

Justice prevailed!

It was a pretty meh game but at least the finish was exciting and the right team won.

Even in victory, Netherlands would have disgraced the sport and their country with reckless, dirty play.  Dutch fans, especially the bandwagonners like Kosma, Third, Mr Gundam, should continue holding their heads down in shame, not for rooting for the losing team but for supporting such a vile bunch of cheating thugs.

Jesus that was an anti-climatic finale. Every shot was missed and you could predict it would be so after a while! From my observations I can conclude that most finales lack in excitement. They're mostly boring and both teams play at the same level. Semi-finals are usually more tense than finales. Netherlands played a mediocre match, so did Spain but a little less. Incredibly anti-climatic ending however holy fuck.

Haha, yeah. Like Van Bommel is a "robust" player and the Dutch played a "disruptive" style.

Anyway, it would have been a shame to see the Dutch win with those tactics. The Spanish were diving but only after the Dutch were pummeling them with fouls. And as someone else said in the GAF thread, the Dutch complaining about the Spanish diving is like the Spanish complaining about the Dutch diving.

Pretty poor tournament overall, especially since it came immediately after one of the best tournaments ever (Euro 08*).

*Even though Euro 08 may be remembered as a tournament of faked injuries to stop counterattacks.
