padding, probably

I was gonna say the same thing.  head looks out of place on that body.  would have been better if it was more helmet like or have more to it so it wouldn't look like a bald cap painted blue.

Captain America is a soldier! I just wish they painted on the wings to the side of the helmet, like in the comic book. The helmet look is obviously modeled after his World War II attire.

The only part of his outfit that looks really off are the eye holes.  I don't follow Captain America, but is there a reason for him to hide his identity? I know he's from WW2 and ends up in the future at one point, but if that's the case, why would he hide that? it's not like any geriatric enemies he had would come after him.

The biggest problem with Captain America is that he is a shitty superhero.

Read Ed Brubaker's run. He rocks.

Needs wings, comic nerds nowadays hates the wings because they aren't "realistic" and they're secretly ashamed of their panty fetish hobby, but I think they're cool - and better than that great big A target on his forehead.

Also looks too modern.  All that textured padded shit and the molded rubber look seems anachronistic for the time period.

I knew they'd fuck this up somehow.  The costume was perfect as it is in the comics, a nice blend of soldier/symbol/superhero, this looks like he walked out of a comic convention costume contest.  Which he lost.

that costume sucks, wings or no

Captain America was an awesome character in the 1940s Golden Age comics, when all the villains were weird slobbering ghouls or  racist wartime caricatures.  Go google up some of the old covers, they're hilarious.

My first thought was that he needed wings.  I like the get-up, but I'm kinda picking up Metal Gear Solid vibes for some reason.

The original Cap costume is probably one of the straightest costumes out there. This shit looks about 1000 times gayer.

It must really suck adapting comic book costumes to feel. Designers sort of got away with the X-Men by slapping them in black plastic and calling it a day, but the more elaborate costumes require some resemblance to the actual comic costumes. They got Spider-Man right by darkening the red and blue, but Captain America simply looks so ridiculous I don't see how they can salvage it. Same with Thor.

I think subduing the colors would help. Like, to all hell and back. And if they are going for a ww2 gen 1 Cap America (Isnt' that the origin story?) his clothing should be based on the cut of a uniform (none of those fancy ass lines everywhere).

I would suppose so. It'll be interesting to see how it's handled. I think it'll be a fun flick, and Johnston is the perfect guy for it. He likes his throwback films and '40s/'50s B-Movies (hence why the Rocketeer was so good).

I'm more concerned that The Avengers and Thor will suck than Captain America.

Thor's helmet has wings! Marvel redeemed ???

I always thought Thor was a cool character when Millar did The Ultimates, but only because you were unsure if this guy really was Thor or some crazy dude with a hammer that he stole from a scientist or something. One could argue either position during the first arc.

Yeah, but there's no way that Marvel would ever adapt it for film. Which is silly, because Millar's first run on The Ultimates is basically a storyboard for a great Avengers flick. Too dark for audiences, though. Would have made an awesome movie.

i have never understood the reasoning behind these kinds of drastic changes

"Hey, you know that really cool superhero, the one that's been around for nearly 70 years in the same familiar iconic costume which is ingrained in pop culture and has appeared in countless media outside of comics, the one even grandparents recognize?  That character would make an awesome movie.  Let's change everything about it."

i can understand tweaking it a bit to give it depth on film, as in spider-man, but stuff like this just smacks of filmmakers and costume designers thinking they can do better than the design which helped make the character so popular in the first place

 :yuck

did you know that when they were working out the flash tv show, cbs executives were pushing for the flash to wear a jogging suit?

The headpiece really screams 'Gimp suit' in the fan art but otherwise I quite like it.

Love the idea of the Flash in a jogging suit. As if he gets to those speeds 'cause of his awesome shoes or running technique. I wish they'd occasionally show him WALKING at light speed in the comics - in theory, he could do it ;)

Actually his running poses are always ridiculous - he's always on the verge of falling over and wiping out at Mach 10.

None of them actually care, if asked...except that they will participate in approx one gazillion argumentative threads like this for years after the movie is released. You don't see these arguments about Nick Frost being suited to play John Self in Martin Amis' 'Money', but put a superhero movie in your threat title and whammo!
