lulz. Deus Ex was my favorite game for a good number of years.

The difference is I'm honest. I don't pretend a game is flawless. Goes even for the ones they people love to hype themselves over and masturbate to. Which happens a lot with PC games.

Game is fine. It seems good. Although its not blowing me away. Mainly because it adds very little to the Deus Ex magic. It's basically someone copying the original Deus Ex. Which is good enough on its own because there aren't a lot of shooters in that mold but it doesn't really feel like it has that +1 magic special sauce I was hoping for myself. I was hoping for Deus Ex plus.

That being said it seems fun enough. Good game with some flaws but good enough because it has a unique blend that the genre is currently missing. Not a lot of stealth fps games out there with an inventory and an upgrade system. And if a person liked Deus Ex they should probably like this.

Even the games I like I diss or try to be balanced about. The AI is garbage in Crysis 2. I still liked the game alot.

The second game is okay, but that's about it. The main problems are that it's way too short [7-8 hours to do everything] and the levels are way smaller [Thanks a bunch, consoles!].

What's up with the music sounding like it was ripped straight out of Mass Effect? I have my doubts about this game now. Presentation wise at least.

Thought it sounded more like the Tron: Legacy soundtrack, but anyway the game looks good so far. I'm trying to not let the fact that I already pre-ordered the game influence my opinion.   :-\

But they are protesting Serif Industries, so it makes sense.

I like the sci-fi premise, which will probably be real in a couple decades, but I kinda wish they'd ditch the cliche "futuristic" aesthetic, of which the font choices (Eurostile, Bank Gothic, etc.) are a good example.

The whole piece works except for the obvious "I'm a voice actor" chick at 0:55.

And people are going to be really disappointed when they compare the "graphics" in that movie to what they actually get in the game.

I don't know, it's all pretty clearly live-action clips with a big of CG enhancement.

there was that old CG trailer too, but most of the marketing is based on in-game footage.  that is just some viral thing.

a few reviews are out (sine this is coming out August 25th I think)

PC Gamer gave it 96 94
OXM gave it 10/10
OPM gave it 8/10

I hope to God everyone is right and this game is great.

Fun story: I played Invisible War first, thought it was mediocre and forgettable even if it had some interesting ideas, then played Deus Ex years later and did several playthroughs one after the other because of how good it was. It became obvious why Invisible War was hated, and it was easy to realize that those "interesting ideas" in Invisible War had mostly already been realized in the first game, then covered up by a mountain of shit "streamlining" in the second.

So it always cracks me up whenever someone tries to insist that IW is a great game on its own standards and that DX1 is unplayable if you don't have nostalgia from when it was new.

I attempted to play Invisible War three times and finally did it by using the baton and punching my way through.  Despite having a third of Deus Ex's length, IW feels longer because it's such a drag with loading screens and small areas.

anyway, one cool thing I read about Human Revolution is if you play on the 360, the minikeyboard/chatpad can be used to type for the in-game terminals and whatnot.

Back in the day I use to argue about the merits of said game on the ion storm forums. IW isn't as bad as people make it out to be. It is a big step down from the original game though which is why so many people were dissappointed. It's kinda like Dragon Age 1 to 2.

no false hype about this puppy... this is Deus Ex 2, just as good as Deus Ex 1

I think Deus Ex is awful. Mostly because it was clearly a game from the 1970s. This 2011 remake should be much more playable...

I love deus ex but theres a lot of revisionist history going on... Back then people made fun of the game for feeling outdated when it came out, and there was a huge, huge meme at the time going about on the forums about how everything could be fixed with crates. Everytime you get stuck in Deus EX, theres usually a convenient crate you can destroy or carry around to climb on or etc. At the time, there were tons of photoshops about this gameplay element..

The game was seen as some kind of niche, underground hit. The stealth aspect didn't really work all that well (admit it, its even more obvious today), the stats based shooting was dumb, the audio was subpar (except for the amazing soundtrack). The game got good reviews but it was kinda of a minor hit with gamers.

It's kind of funny to see how much of the fame and praise for the original game grew with time..

(the following might contain a few incorrect names and settings, last time I replayed the original was in 2005 or so)

I complete it several times, but the game has lots of problems. I remember the first time you get to Hell's Kitchen, I somehow ended up breaking the game by picklocking a door in a alley and I ended in a looooooonnng treck across rooftops and crates, getting random side-missions completed (without ever 'activating them', i was just getting random popups from the techguy going 'GOOD JOB JC!') until i somehow manage to unlock a door and arrived at the bottom floor of the power generator room (? its been a while). I destroyed it and pretty much ended up doing the mission in reverse order of what youre suposed to do because of that..

I mean, yeah the game has a lot of freedom, but the way I ended up doing that mission was wtf. It was like my 2314th replay of the game, but I can imagine that If I had experienced it the first time the way I had just done it, i would had been like 'wtf is this buggy piece of crap' ...

I'm going to rent this sequel, but I'm not expecting much sadly.. the gameplay vids were MEH at best. The game has a budget feel to it.

Playing this now with the new texture mod and this is the only problem I'll agree with. It's infuriating to hit a guy with a tranq dart and they instantly know where you are.

Otherwise it still holds up quite well.
