why this game is goty already

turret had line of sight on me trying to cross a hallway.  took a vent around, but still couldn't disable it.  went into the next room, found a bunch of boxes.  cardboard boxes > turrets

I think Deus Ex 3 might be the first game to have a hacking minigame that's actually kind of fun.

It wouldn't be Deus Ex without moving stupid inanimate objects into dumb places. I always liked moving the Flag in the UNATCO offices.

the first two missions are too long and kind of boring tbh since they are just long tutorials. i just got out in the open area and have a list of quests so now it's getting interesting.

Yeah, that first mission did go on a little too long, too many of the rooms and corridors looked the same. Detroit hub is amazing though, so much to do and find.

By the way, this is for MAF:

Just wanna say that the art design in Human Revolution is absolutely stellar. Even little details like the glow of neon signs or soft light filtering through windows, it's all so moody. And there's something about Jensen's apartment that just makes me want to be there.

I really hope this sells a lot and Eidos Montreal gets to make a lot more games.

I was watching someone play, and I was -this- close to writing it off for not including a form of sonar for stealth. Then he was exploring the augments and saw there is an exact area dedicated to improving the stealth. I am satisfied.

The stealth starts off really basic.  Augments let you see through walls, see enemy cone of vision, go invisible, mark multiple enemies, do multiple take downs, do aerial take downs, punch through walls, sprint without making noise, etc.

There is an achievement called "foxiest of the hounds" or something (as in, MGS Fox Hound).  No alarms in the entire playthough.

AI is really sketchy in this. At least on the default level.

I was in a room with about 4 guys so I just started shooting them with from long distance with a tran gun. The other people would see them get tran-shot. Run over to try to wake them up, occasionally actually do it, and then I would shoot them both again. Imagine this repeated process with about 4 guards and its like slap stick comedy routine. They never thought, hey I should take cover or let me go look for the guy who keeps shooting us and putting us to sleep.  :P

The reality is in these type of games people don't actually really want smart AI. They want predicatable AI that they can exploit and feel like a bad ass against but this was a bit much. Hopefully they address this somewhat as the game nears release.

Even they know their AI is balls.

Quote
“I’d be lying if I said the AI meets all of our expectations but I think it’s normal that every developer has something they’d like to do differently,” director Jean-Francois Dugas said in the latest issue of Play, as reported by NowGamer.

“That being said, when you look at the type of game we’re making, where stealth and combat need to cohabit as naturally as possible, I think overall gamers will be satisfied with what we did. It’s not perfect but it makes for interesting gameplay situations.”

Reviewers have been forgiving of Human Revolution’s problems; although the AI has indeed drawn some criticism, the game currently holds an 89 Metacritic average on all three platforms.

the AI is really dumb, yeah.

the most frustrating part of this game, outside of the obnoxiously long load times (almost 30 seconds), is Jensen's inability to engage enemies sitting down, or over obstacles in general.  I'm used to Goldeneye or Uncharted 2 where you can pull enemies over and around cover.  Here, they need to be standing for it to work.

One review described the art design as, 'Blade Runner meets Bernini'. Which I thought sounded like a wonderfully succint description.

There a few minor issues here and there [like the AI and the load times between areas], but, for the most part, it all works. This isn't a follow-up to the dumbed-down, short, confined Invisible Wars, but a true sequel to Deus Ex 1.

Do  tranquilizer darts work on bosses?

I ask because the first boss fight was really stupid and I wondered if I had the gun equipped could it have made things more fair.

I've read that all the boss battles are pretty terrible.

RPS said that you can take down a boss using non-lethal weaponry but the ensuing cutscene will still show the lifeless and blooded corpse of the boss. Seems like a pretty big concession for a game that's supposed to be all about player agency.

So, I was wondering,

If Eidos decided to make a sequel to DE1 instead of more prequels (I actually prefer the tech in HR to DE1), could they get away with pretending IW doesn't exist or would they have to make a game that comes after that too?

I wonder which DE1 ending would be cannon to them as well.

IW is already forgotten, man, like it never even existed.

That's the best part about it, the misinformation that leaks down to the plebs who run the stores.

Also I like that Gamestop is only doing this against a startup, and is completely fine selling stuff that pushes customers to Steam/Origin.

that's what he gets for trying to talk to me

do any of you understand how to make use of that social system when you unlock the perk ? i don't get it.

it's really simple

talk to them and watch the meter on on the left.  Note if their personality skews more towards Alpha, Beta or Omega.  Hit space/click that box/whatever on a pad and select the alpha, beta or omega response.  Characters have multiple traits, but just pay attention to the one that flashes the highest and most.

it's also not the best course of action, depending on how you play.  it's usually the "GET RESULTS" option.  It can bypass additional steps in missions, blackmail others, etc.  Just pay attention.

try this for 3D: http://widescreengamingforum.com/forum/forums/stereoscopic-3d-gaming/general-stereoscopic-3d-discussions/16660/workaround-enabling-3d

the PC version has technical problems, with stutters and crazy long load times, and it's really strange.  The company in charge of the port, Nixxes, did amazing work porting the Tomb Raider and Kane and Lynch games.  Plus for Deus Ex, the entire interface feels right for the PC, and they threw in other options like an in-game FOV setting.  It doesn't seem lazy at all, but something is screwed up.
