SE is making some very smart business decisions...if everything goes well they could be a dominant player in WRPG genre...in few years

As for the Obsidian developing it...in addition to SE as a publisher we have GPG as a supervisor and that tells a lot about SE goals

I *loved* Dungeon Siege, Dungeon Siege II and Space Siege even though SS was a whole lot of suck.

:rofl @ people in that gaf thread that were dreaming about a resurrection of some obscure 8-bit/ 16-bit Square franchise like Live-A-Live :lol :lol

It's 2010 idiots. Nobody gives a shit about those SNES franchises anymore, not even Square itself.

i would have loved a resurrection of live-a-live instead of a sequel of a game i don't know nothing about :'(

Will wait and see what happens with this. Obsidian doesn't exactly inspire confidence.

They're building off an established base with supervision from the original developer.

Plus, Alpha Protocol is a really fun game, so...

I've actually been playing Dungeon Siege II this past week. It's a pretty fun Diablo-clone with some nice loot and a decent levelling system, but the story and characters are a bit on the dull side. Add Obisidian's writing into the mix and I think something really good is going to come out of this.

Dungeon Siege 2 actually had a lot of nice additions for the loot genre. It also had a lot of issues. But overall I enjoyed it.

As far as the story and writing honestly I found it no worse than the tripe that normally passes as acceptable in this genre. Even in Diablo 2 I barely understood where I was supposed to go most of the time.

Diablo 2 at least had some totally awesome CG sequences, but, yeah, story and writing aren't really that big in the genre. Still, I'm interested in seeing what Obsidian will do in that department.

Wasn't Dungeon Siege owned by MS?

Good news if true.  The Dungeon Siege games were a nice blend of Baldur's Gate strategy and Diablo action.

GPG had a publishing deal with Microsoft, but Take-Two acquired the publishing rights back in 2006.

Looks like Square's investment in Eidos is really paying off.  I doubt it's the old Jap executives who are making these decisions to aim more games at Western audiences.

PC only loot game franchise.

The first one had a shitload of hype behind it. Wasn't all that great a game.

By the time the second one rolled around people were off the hype train despite it being a much better game by comparison. Also spawned an..... amazing movie.

People keep trying to make excuses for the disappointing and rushed games Obsidian keeps churning out and at a certain point you have to lay some of the blame with Obsidian themselves. They are the ones who get into bed with these people. And they are the ones producing disappointing work. They have another crack at it with Vegas and I'm much more confident in that one but the last thing Obsidian needs is more defenders. Let the work stand for itself.

It stands.

KOTOR2 was rushed it's obvious. And still it was a better RPG than:

- KOTOR1
- Morrowind
- Fable

and 95% of other Xbox RPGs.

Even when flawed Obsidian games stand above the mediocre crap put out by other companies like Bethesda.

Haven't played KOTOR 2, but:

Neverwinter Nights 2 = Pretty good RPG
Neverwinter Nights 2: Mask of the Betrayer = Like NWN2 but better
Alpha Protocol = Really fun RPG with some flaws

I haven't come across anything broken about Alpha Protocol, yeah there are some things that could be a lot better, nobody's arguing otherwise on that, but the glitches on the PC version are mostly on the minor side and the combat is workable as long as you approach it with the understanding that it's more of a real-time RPG than a straight shooter.

There really isn't a lot to argue at this point. I totally understood why some people like them a lot. I'm just not one of those guys.

If I'm going to give them credit for Mask of the Betrayer I can also assign equal failure for the original NW 2.

Kotor 2 I thought was a big pile.

And I haven't played enough of Alpha Protocol to say one way or the other but the little bit I did play didn't exactly set me on fire.

I honestly think that's a fairly mediocre track record but that's just my opinion. Someone else is equally entitled to their own.

Decent hack n' slash with Obsidian storytelling and moral choices is all I want.  I already got this pre-ordered so I'm going to hold off on the demo and just hope the game lives up to other Obsidian titles.
