365 days and 88 lbs. later...
« on: June 07, 2010, 11:11:14 AM »
For anyone who has not been following my progress Fitnessbore topic or our recent OT discussion, I had set a personal goal of being under 300 lbs. by June 7th. Not only is it my brother's birthday, but it's also when I had pretty awful photographic evidence of how much weight I had gained in recent years. I wanted something I could compare and contrast.

This is me, exactly one year ago today, at 385 lbs...

And this is me TODAY, exactly one year later...

spoiler (click to show/hide)

... I'm not done, and I still have a ways to go, but I'm pretty psyched. I can't remember the last time I was under 300 lbs. Maybe grade school. I've gone down from a 52 waist to a 40. I wanted to thank Cormacaroni and a few of the EB'ers who cheered me on, even when the scale wasn't moving. Thanks guys. This one is for you.*

* Now time to drink lots of beer and eat pizza! (Kidding.)

I'm not really dieting. In fact, I honestly had four microbrew beers last night. And I had pizza last week! And Chinese food before that!

... it's just moderation and human proportions, not giant land mammal proportions. I eat whatever I want. I hold myself accountable for the calories, though.

No problem, dude. :)

My problem has always been moderation.  I love tons of good foods, but I ruin it by eating a whale's portion.  It wasn't until I started realizing how bad some things were and thinking about it while eating and realizing how sick I felt when I ate tons that I started to lose weight.

My next goal is 250 by December 25th. After that, I'll reevaluate my body and health and find a plan that works for me. I don't think I'll ever been under 200 lbs. My father can't even pull that off, and he's a gym rat that is significantly smaller than me.

Congrats, you lost like...a whole large dog. Imagine that before, it's like you were walking around with a German Shepperd inside you ya know

Or like, you were walking around with 2 big 20 Kg dog food bags, inside you. Can you imagine? Have you ever go to the supermarket and say "Holy shit, my fingers" when you are putting those dog food bags in the shopping cart?

Now imagine, doing that everyday when you get into your car. Or a bus.

That's a whole lot of dog food know what am sayin'

That's hard work, well done man.  Ever watch The Biggest Loser?  There are lots of guys who are bigger than you were on that show, but it's tough to get moving at that weight.  I've never been that high but I understand how tough it can be.  Hope you keep going!

What's the least you've ever weighed as an adult?  What about as a kid, when did you cross over into that 'fat' category (probably over 200 lbs I'd say.)

The guy who won the Biggest Loser this year was actually the heaviest guy/person who's ever been on the show.  He started at 526 and got down to an amazing 262 at the finale.  There was another guy who had him beat percentage-wise but he didn't make the final 3 who competed for the final prize.

I guess it's 'cause you have a small head.  LOL

Anyways, for a 5'11 guy, you could definitely make it to at least 225.  I'm around the same height and most people think I'm a big guy even though I "only" weight between 175 to 195.

I was at 230 for much of 2nd and 3rd years in High School.  I then got tired of being fat and went on an intense workout regime that helped me shed 50 lbs in 6 months.

That seemed like a lot back then but it's really nothing compared to what you pulled off.

I watch that show every now and then. I can't really stay interested. They typically lose weight too fast and apparently some gain it back. All of them are emotional basket cases. I'm not losing weight for daddy issues or to meet girls or to win money, but just feel better about myself.

This is probably the least I've weighted as an adult. I'm wearing clothes from high school right now, which should tell you that I was heavy for most of my life. I ballooned to almost 370 lbs. when I was twenty, and did the Atkins thing and brought it down to about 310 to 315 lbs., but gained it all back and then some. I think that was kind of deflating, in that it felt like diets just don't work. This year, I realized, "Yeah, diets DON'T work, but that doesn't mean I can't lose weight."

I have an ex that has seriously gained everything I have lost and then some during the same time frame. (I think she's gained about a hundred pounds, Disposable White Guy makes tugboat sounds when I talk about her.) I crashed at her place the other week, and she was saying something similar - how it's so tough to lose the weight. But then I look at her Facebook, and she is eating at Five Guys, Pizza Hut, etc.

It's tough to get over that mental hurdle, I can't really judge either.

Yeah I wouldn't recommend losing weight like that on the show, and some do gain the weight back.  They aren't losing weight because of their issues though, they weigh nearly 400 lbs because they have issues.  Jillian gets on my nerves (her show is predictably horrible armchair psychiatry) but the show is pretty good at it's core and a good inspirational tool.

You've stumbled onto the 'secret' though and that is you can't lose weight for any other reason other than it's the right thing to do for yourself.  If you lose weight for auxiliary reasons like a girl, or winning a contest then even if you succeed it will only be temporary.  If you do it because you know it's the right thing to do for yourself, you'll be successful.  The best thing about that show is when you see a contestant 'get it.'  It can be inspiring, at least to me.

I almost want to get on that show, just so I can mindfuck Jillian and her bullshit psychology. If she's so happy, where's her boyfriend? Why is she always prying into other people's lives? Is she not happy with her own? Is she desperately trying to prove herself to her mother, who never gave her the appreciation and love she so desired as a child?

I want to ask her those questions and see her break into tears. :lol

Nailed it.  I would LOVE to see Jillian get hatefucked into a sweaty elastic pretzel, peeling her thighs off the headboard after a sticky marathon resulting in a primordial soup of combined juices.

Her mother issues are hilarious and I have no doubt she wants no part of mom back on that show.  Did you know mom is a psychiatrist?  It explains a lot about what Jillian thinks she knows.

BTW I think she's a man-hating dyke which would explain the lack of a bf and her need to bond with other people's family.

I think Bob smokes pole too but I much prefer his approach.  He at least appears to care for these people rather than starfucking them for his own show and videogame products (which he admittedly has but it just feels like he's more honest about it all for some reason lol.)

I think it gives a lot of people false hope. Yeah, it's easy to lose weight when that it's ALL YOU DO and you live in a house stocked with healthy food. I wish there was a program that showed people how to lose weight when people have to work or eat out of the house and stuff.

I agree with that sentiment. That's all those guys are fucking doing over there: working out and losing weight and eating right. But out in the real world it's a lot harder.

When I said it gives me confidence, I meant that seeing a big 500 pound guy on a treadmill jogging gives me confidence. If that guy can do it, so can I. I tend to put my treadmills on the slower speeds: 4 or so, but when I watch the Biggest Loser and see how they work out, I feel like I can do it too.

It's a flawed show but I think it's one of the few inspiring reality tv shows.
