I'm in the same boat. My brother, who is lurking this thread, is like rail thin. And all he drinks dark beers daily, can eat a pound of bacon, fried foods, etc. Doesn't gain any weight. It's evil.
Is he one of those holier than thou dudes about weight?  It's bad enough you got my dad's metabolism and I got my mom's, but don't act like you have to work to stay in shape.  Ass.

I called Bobby a dbag? I don't remember.
You constantly talked shit about him in HS.

Well, does he exercise?

He job is manual labor, but before he was doing landscaping, he'd still be able to eat and drink whatever he wants and not gain weight. He didn't have a steady job for over a year, and all he'd do is drink Mountain Dew and beer and eat food and play Xbox 360. And he didn't gain weight at all.

He doesn't act holier than thou, but he does complain about the fact the rest of the family is so health conscious now. He just wants to eat fatty stuff.

That's great Willco, congrats!  Keep it going!

I've been "stuck" after losing around 20 lbs.  Not gaining any weight but losing any either.  It's still just an amazing feeling being able to fit into clothes that felt too small before you started dieting.  :rock

I don't remember any shit talking towards Bobby. :lol I think it was towards Bobby's douchebag friend instead, but whatever.

Last time I saw Bobby he had a punching bag set up in the kitchen so it seemed like he put a little work into getting into shape. From the punching bag, I saw a desperate need to have bulging muscles.

Anyways, I can't wait to be skinny again. I have not been skinny since the 6th grade. Both of my parents are obese, and I'm lucky I never broke 300, although at my worst...I pulling pretty close. But I've since 100 of that but I can't seem to get past 200.

By the time I was in 8th grade, I had developed man boobs. It sucked because some of the jocks made fun of me and asked me if I wore a bra. Being fat sucks.

But congrats on the weight loss. Pretty impressive that you managed to drop as much as you did without just starving yourself

This part is so true. I have some clothes I purchased at my zenith that were too tight to wear, and now they're WAY TOO BIG for me to wear. In fact, most of my wardrobe is going to have to get chucked soon. I can't believe I even fit into some of my older pants.

Fitting into clothes from over ten years ago is awesome. Simple things like that I appreciate. Like, this is going to sound both silly and a little pathetic, but even being able to wrap a bath towel COMPLETELY around my waist is a nice feeling. Or being able to get up a flight of stairs quicker than some folks that should be in better shape. Stuff like that.

Willco, it's the small things. It got to a point where I could only buy clothes - or, in particular, pants - at specialty stores like Big and Tall, even though I'm short and stocky. But now I can buy clothes at Wal-Mart!!! Next step: buying clothes at the Gap.

as you've observed, it ain't easy, especially when your lunch/dinner lifestyle involves eating away from home all the time. i think i subsist entirely on protein bars, whey shakes, greek yogurt, and chicken these days.

my one impedence: FUCK vegetables. i like lettuce and carrots and celery, but most vegetables are GROSS GROSS GROSS. if that makes me a manchild who will die at the age of 50, so be it. FUCK vegetables, and fuck my dietician for insisting i eat that garbage. (unless it is slathered in curry.)

For those wanting to lose weight, cut down on your bread/pasta/rice/grains intake.  Limit yourself.  Cut down on dairy products.  Cut down on starches.  I'm on a carb-based diet and can basically eat whatever the hell I want to, within moderation.  It's kind of weird that I can have a shit-ton of meat daily but only a cup and a half of broccoli and two cups of fruits.

For me, it's definitely been cutting down on breads and pasta and doing some light exercise 4-5 times a week that's helped me to start slimming down.  If I feel the need to eat something between meals, I go for sugar-free Jello or pickles.

You just have to learn to control your portion sizes and what needs to be cut out of your daily intake.  You can still have the really fatty/junky shit as long as it's not daily and in moderation.  If you can't do this yourself, go see a dietician.

Insulin spike information...

Quote
How Fat is Stored in Your Body

Chylomicrons do not last long in the bloodstream -- only about eight minutes -- because enzymes called lipoprotein lipases break the fats into fatty acids. Lipoprotein lipases are found in the walls of blood vessels in fat tissue, muscle tissue and heart muscle. The activity of lipoprotein lipases depends upon the levels of insulin in the body. If insulin is high, then the lipases are highly active; if insulin is low, the lipases are inactive.

The fatty acids are then absorbed from the blood into fat cells, muscle cells and liver cells. In these cells, under stimulation by insulin, fatty acids are made into fat molecules and stored as fat droplets.

It is also possible for fat cells to take up glucose and amino acids, which have been absorbed into the bloodstream after a meal, and convert those into fat molecules. The conversion of carbohydrates or protein into fat is 10 times less efficient than simply storing fat in a fat cell, but the body can do it. If you have 100 extra calories in fat (about 11 grams) floating in your bloodstream, fat cells can store it using only 2.5 calories of energy. On the other hand, if you have 100 extra calories in glucose (about 25 grams) floating in your bloodstream, it takes 23 calories of energy to convert the glucose into fat and then store it. Given a choice, a fat cell will grab the fat and store it rather than the carbohydrates because fat is so much easier to store.

It is important to note that as your body stores more fat, the number of fat cells remains the same; each fat cell simply gets bigger.

Hormones That Act Opposite to Insulin
When you are not eating, your body is not absorbing food. If your body is not absorbing food, there is little insulin in the blood. However, your body is always using energy; and if you're not absorbing food, this energy must come from internal stores of complex carbohydrates, fats and proteins. Under these conditions, various organs in your body secrete hormones:

pancreas - glucagon
pituitary gland - growth hormone
pituitary gland - ACTH (adrenocorticotropic hormone)
adrenal gland - epinephrine (adrenaline)
thyroid gland - thyroid hormone

These hormones act on cells of the liver, muscle and fat tissue, and have the opposite effects of insulin.

There's a small amount of sugar but I don't see what that has to do with the fat content.

Insulin stores your carbs as glycogen first in your liver and muscles and then after those reserves are full, it converts into fat.  That's my point, that your insulin cycle tries to store energy as fat last and tries to burn calories from glycogen first.  So...be very wary of too much fat.

Cut down on dairy products.
wat
He's just cutting down,  I don't think he's avoiding all dairy.

Right.  I cut down on dairy.  I can have up to 6 oz. of dairy products daily.  I'll usually have a bowl of cereal in the morning (1 cup of milk) and then might use up the rest eating different kinds of cheeses, either as a snack or using shredded cheese in a salad.

The plan on I'm also allows for me to have 200-300 "free calories," meaning I can use that much to eat whatever the hell I want if I feel like it.  So if I wanted more dairy, I could make use of that.

I didn't eat lunch today (had a late breakfast), and had a broccoli+cheese sauce pasta mix (two cups of pasta) around 5:30.  Right now I am eating a Caesar salad I made with reduced fat feta cheese, ham, green onions, and a little bit of turkey pepperoni and reduced fat genoa salami.  And it all fits into my diet so I can eat it guilt-free.  Gonna hop on the treadmill for a bit after I'm done.
