The PR's are out but I dunno if the major sites have posted it yet, it just broke in the last two hours or so.

So far only confirmed for North America and Europe.  Summer 2007 (probably August-September).  Word is it will be based on Version C and not Version B (PS3 is version B).

SEGA ANNOUNCES VIRTUA FIGHTER 5 FOR XBOX 360

Premiere Fighting Game Franchise Makes First Appearance on Microsoft’s Next Generation Videogame Console

STOCKHOLM, SWEDEN (December 21, 2006) – SEGA of America, Inc. and SEGA Europe Ltd. today announced that the highly anticipated arcade fighting game, Virtua Fighter™ 5, will make its way onto the Xbox 360™ video game and entertainment system. Virtua Fighter™ 5 is scheduled for release on Xbox 360™ in North America and in Europe during late summer 2007. The game will also be available for the PLAYSTATION®3 computer entertainment system on February 20th, 2007 in North America and will be available in Europe simultaneously with the system’s launch in March 2007.

“Those people lucky enough to have already played Virtua Fighter™ 5 will know that it’s laid the foundations to become the clear benchmark for fighting games on all next generation consoles”, said Matt Woodley, Creative Director, SEGA Publishing Europe Ltd. “Bringing Virtua Fighter™ 5 to the Xbox 360™ offers us a platform with power to handle the astonishing visuals, the complex and varied fighting styles of all the customisable characters and will undoubtedly put Virtua Fighter™ 5 into the hands of a gaming audience craving for a highly polished and credible fighting game.”

Virtua Fighter™ 5 features beautifully detailed stages from around the world where players face off in fast-moving martial arts battles against one of 17 characters. Two lively new characters join the elite group of fighters, adding two new unique fighting styles for players to try and master. With more skill and strategy than ever before, players are also given the opportunity to learn and employ the new “Offensive Move” technique to take down their opponents from different angles, adding a new dimension to the game and something for both new and old fans to master. Virtua Fighter™ 5 also includes the ability to customise characters by selecting from four base costumes and a wide range of unlockable accessories and earnable items. As players win more tournaments they will not only earn costumes and accessories, but also prizes and in-game money that will allow them to buy items from the in-game shop.

“The Virtua Fighter™ series from SEGA has one of the most prestigious histories in video games,” said Jeff Bell, corporate vice president of global marketing for the Interactive Entertainment Business at Microsoft. “It’s a franchise that has grown an army of loyal fans both in arcades and on consoles worldwide, and is consistently rated extremely high by the media. Fighting game fans have been hungry for Virtua Fighter™ 5 and we can now proudly deliver this game with SEGA to Xbox 360 gamers around the world.”

Developed by the highly renowned Tokyo based development team, AM R&D Development No.2, Virtua Fighter™ 5 for the Xbox 360™ will be available across Europe and North America during late summer 2007.

Yeah, so anyway, THE ONE CONSOLE FUTURE dream is alive again.

On GAF and #ga when I said VF5 would help PS3, everyone more or less said I was wrong.
But now that it's going to 360 as well, this is a huge deal, omg sony owned, ps3 doomed, etc. etc.

That just strikes me as being funny.  :lol

AUHAHHAHAHA SONY :lol

Xbox 360 continues to become the system to beat. The lack of exclusive content is going to kill Sony, and MS knows this; why waste $600 on a PS3 when you can get many of the same games on the 360 for $100-200 cheaper.

There's a DOA4 arcade stick that you can get but I think it's still kind of rare.  About $60 in a store, maybe double that on ebay.

Diablos you are cool but you have to lay off defending PS3. Defending PS3 is like defending GCN last gen. You just plain can't do it without being mocked by the masses.

Everyone can fucking defend PS3 and Wii a year from now when theres SHIT TO DEFEND. Defending hardware and b-list games right after launch is teh funny.

Nintendo fans SHOULD be trolling everyone with DS Lite numbers which are EARNED.

Defending PS3 is like defending GCN last gen.

It's a bit too early to say that, man. And that's why I "defend" PS3. The masses = pretty distinguished mentally-challenged.

Praise for DS sales figures is certainly earned, but not so much that it gives you the right to instantly assume next-gen as over for Sony. Get the fuck outta here.

Whilst it is true that our defense grid has been severely compromised with the defection of numerous PS3-exclusive titles to the Xbox 360, the populace must still surely realise that this is in no way a negative for Sony or its Playstation family.

Virtua Fighter has for many years been a sub-par fighting game series. The Playstation exclusive Tekken series has, since day one, reigned as the premiere 3D fighter, with each iteration in the series taking the genre forward and leaving lesser-known hopefuls like Virtua Fighter grasping at thin air.

The Tekken series has also enjoyed greater sales figures on a worldwide basis, further confirming its superiority in the 3D fighting arena. Only the Playstation 3 Supercomputer Entertainment System with the revolutionary Cell processor and the RSX graphics chip can fully realize the complex 3D world that Namco wishes to create with Tekken 6. Gamers only need to hark back to the E3 2005 PS3 real-time emulation demonstration to take a glimpse at the type of visual excellence only the PS3 can and will serve up with this landmark title.

Additionally, with VF5 also being released on a western console such as the Xbox 360, it is a safe bet that the 360 version will sport inferior art direction. Only the Playstation 3 Supercomputer Entertainment system in the hands of superior Japanese artists and developers is able to render the artistic vision that these craftsmen posess. As a western console, the Xbox 360 will neuter the abilities of these same Japanese artists.

In closing, the PS2 has outsold the Xbox and the Xbox 360.

Are you gonna say that every time that Sony loses a 3rd party exclusive franchise?

Let's see:

GTA4- simultaneous release on xbox 360 and ps3
DQ- Gone
VF5- on 360

That's nothing though, right del?  What are you gonna say when MGS4 comes out on 360?  Or DQ10 goes to Wii?  Huh?

Also, MGS4 could very well go multi after a while, just like MGS and MGS2 did.

I can't wait until PS3 outsells the 360 and gives Wii some serious competition this gen, so you morons can stop overanalyzing and SHUT THE FUCK UP.

Is VF5 still that big of a deal to people? I know the hardcore fans love it .. but does it still sell to casuals? Haven't they moved on?

No online play gets a big MEH from me. This is what next gen is? I thought we were going to have all these games with beefed up online play.

Pretty sure VF4 Evolution sold pretty well after VF4's release, but then again it was only $20.

Yeah, it sucks, but it was expected.  I still take the whole "we aren't putting our fighters online because the lag will affect the game play/frame counting timing" as a completely BULLSHIT excuse.  You don't have to play online.  It should be there whether purists whine about it or not.  Say what you want to about DOA, but Ultimate and DOA4 online absolutely ROCK(ED), and certainly made the games far more fun to play and longer lasting when playing alone, because even laggy online matches are still always going to be better than playing against the CPU.

If Sega actually adds online play into the 360 version, that will be a big deal and I'll be all over it, but for now I'll be getting VF5 on PS3 on February 8th.  I don't want to wait until sometime in summer for the same game.

The 360 version will be the superior version because:

Custom soundtracks
1080p scaling option
rumble option
Based on version C

But it's also possible it will have online, since the tools are better and MS handles the servers and stuff.

Don't care about rumble.  I also doubt it will look any better than the game on PS3, but I'll leave that crap to the hardware whores and play the game instead.  And have they SAID it would be based on version C?  I don't mean fanboys, I mean Sega.

Custom soundtracks is cool though.

That's got nothing to do with it.  DO NOT EXPECT online.  It will be a miracle if any version of VF5 gets that.

Hardware supported 1080p scaling will be very nice.  PS3 version is locked at 720p - 360 version will support scaling from 480p to 1080p and all the funky monitor resolutions in between.

Most of us don't care about rumble but having the option is better than no option.

I don't know where the source for 360 being based on Version C came from, I think Kikizo was the first site to mention it and I know they don't have the greatest track record.  But it does make sense - why would AM2 port Version B when Version C would be out?

I'm not expecting online at all, but who knows?  Official reasons stated by pubs and devs aren't always the real reasons, VF5's lack of online may have a lot to do with Sony's late delivery of online specs and tools, lack of unified plan, downloading of costs to publishers, and the like...Again, I don't expect it at all but I think the possibility of online might be greater than zero.

Even without online, or even without Version C, 360 version is still superior just for custom soundtracks and scaling support built in.

AFAIK, there is no version C.  Not even in arcades.

We won't know how the two games hold up visually until the 360 version is out.  People seem to be automatically championing the 360 version...there's a long way to go before it comes out.  We'll have to wait and see.

Meanwhile, the PS3 version is out in less than two months.  I'm all over it.  If it's better on 360, I'll certainly get it on there too...I'm just not expecting it to be.

And again, online has nothing to do with any of those reasons.  It's the same reason that all the Sega (and Namco) fighters haven't had it implented...because it wouldn't be as precise online.  And I'll say again that WHO CARES ADD IN ANYWAY.   >:(

With the glitches/slow down happening in Version B coming to light I think a Version C is a certainty at this point.  PS3 supposedly already fixes the slowdown glitch though.
