But Lebron and Amare going to the Knicks might just make them legit enough for Stern to grant them a championship.

If LeBron thinks his best chance at a championship is with the New York Knicks we can say "hey kids, a college education is useful no matter what you do with your life."

In another sign that Satan just threw another log on the fire, Chad Ford reports that Cleveland has reached out to Utah about possibly doing a sign-and-trade for Carlos Boozer in hopes that it would be enough to keep James in Akron.

Loozer won't help any team win a championship.  Guy barely blocked more shots than Jason Kidd.  If Carlos goes against LA in the finals, he'd just get destroyed by Gasol again.

With Bosh set to join Wade in Miami instead of doing the sign-and-trade and joining LeBron in Cleveland, I have no idea how LeBron stays in town. That doesn't mean he won't, and it doesn't mean he wouldn't have competitive reasons to, it's just that those reasons are not readily apparent. Their roster is what it is, and they don't have much (if any?) cap room. It comes down to whether or not they're able to work trades is and obtain the right pieces.

Then again, Shaq comes off the books this year, right? Does that give them any room or were they screwed without that salary anyway?

no, they're capped out.

Actually, they can still have enough space for LeBron if they get rid of Beasley and thanks to the addition $2 million in cap space. But it would have to be a roster of league minimums for the rest of the spots, and that roster would be so top heavy that if any of the three get injuries, they're totally fucked.

It's still quite possible for LeBron to sign with the Heat. The salary cap came in a bit higher than expected.
According to ESPN's Chad Ford -

'Higher cap still means MIA can't sign 3 MAX contracts with Beasley but the three could take $$15,646,179, instead of $16,568,908'

At this point, a savvy bargain hunter like Sam Presti of OKC should swoop in and offer a couple of future picks for Beasley and get his salary off Miami's books. Beasley is a headcase and thus a risk, but he's still easily worth that.

Even if they don't get rid of him, Wade, Bosh and LeBron really wouldn't be giving up that much money. The marketing possibilities for a 'Dream Team' like that are off the charts - it would surely repay them for what they would give up on the contracts.

Quality problem, and one that affects every other contender too. Think LA wins without Kobe or Pau?

Some pretty good players take the league minimum every year. That's a trend that will only increase next year. One year to re-tool for the Heat, max, then utter domination.
