Perhaps I need to get my vision checked, because watching that video, I didn't see any cops "playing" with their batons, I saw a line of cops with their batons tucked under their arms.  Nor could I make out any mounted units.

And he has still refused to answer whether or not if Puerto Rico requires permits and protest organizers to contact representatives to enter the Capitol building, and if so, if these protestors did either of these things.

As stated before, if these protestors were barred from the Capitol building unconstitutionally, then there is a right to civil dissent - but cops enforcing orders to block entrance to the building with non-fatal dispersement tactics should not get the blame, but rather the chief of police and governor.

Most student protesters are middle class and higher kids that are desperate to find some type of greater meaning in their lives.  Which is why some of them rioted in the first place - it makes them feel like they're in solidarity with the exploited poors they secretly despise.  Most of them hate cops for the same reason - it makes them feel like they're in solidarity with people they intentionally try to avoid if possible.  If they can't participate in some event, they just make the details to make police brutality as bad as they want to get it.  Quoting some opposition politician isn't much different than looking to Ron Lawl or David Duke just to find some alternative event to the story.

Not to say that police brutality doesn't exist but student protesters have active imaginations to make their cause seem more than the petty waste of tax dollars it actually was.

In no way was my post a defense of the cops.  No, it was simply a reaction to your hysterics-filled fantasy description of the video.  Whether the cops used excessive force or not is immaterial to the fact that, in the clip you posted and described, they were not "playing with their batons" and there were no mounted units that I could see doing anything.  edit:  oh wait, on my third viewing, I could see a row of mounted units for about half of a second far in the background.  Oppression!

A couple of points, since Willco's wack pack has seen fit to smear shit all over the thread:

- No newspaper article I've read has even hinted that this was an illegal protest.  Thus, Willco's bleating as to "Where are their permits?! Find me proof they had a permit!" is completely moot.  How about you find me a single article that says the students were gathered illegally?  Not that they tried to enter the Capitol building, but that the protest was being held illegally?  If it was, why did the police not try to disperse it immediately?

- Willco can't take the word of a state senator saying he saw police breaking car windows because that senator belongs to the opposition party.  It's one thing to accuse your opponent of being a "commie" or a "socialist", quite another to make a statement of fact regarding something you saw.  I bet even when/if video proof of cops breaking car windows shows up, Willco would just say "It could be students posing as cops!"

- All Boogie can say in response to this thread is "Uh, I don't think they were playing with their batons and I only saw mounted units for half a second in that video."  The only reason I even mentioned the mounted units was because the cops threw pepper spray and I don't think horses would handle it very well.  At no point did I say "holy crap, the mounted police are here to kick ass!" As you can see from the video, the strike force did that well enough on their own.

I don't even have to make a case for police brutality, Boogie.  There's fucking video proof.  Pretty much all the hometown newspapers are in agreement that there WAS brutality, it's only the "Let's troll Ichirou" gang here that is somehow trying to justify these cops' actions.
